Happy New Year Stu. I had the T1 for a year and loved it, took some setting up, but worked great especially movies and gaming. I upgraded to the T3 Lite recently and it's night and day compared to the T1, colours are much better, more responsive, and easier to dial in. Great review as always, looking forward to your next monthly tech haul video.
My issue with govees solution to this lighting is the delay thanks to the fact the TV has to show a colour before it can send the signal to the lights. An hdmi box works better but doesn't support native TV and hdmi 2.1. I feel we are in the early stages of this tech and better solutions will be out soon and more TV manufacturers will include this in the future.
The hdmi solutions still have too many flaws of their own imo. Adding extra latency to the video signal for games, disrupting the signal or disabling HDR altogether if it’s not hdmi 2.1 compatible, I don’t really think a few millisecond delay on background lighting is that noticeable imo, the only rare cases where I think I could notice it are when it goes from full black to a vivid color, then you can see a slight catch-up but when things are moving normally it’s not noticeable especially since your focus is on the TV itself and the lights are just for the periphery
I had the govee T1, worked alright, after a year I gave it to my dad along with the oled it was attached to and I got the new Lytmi Fantasy 3 pro edition with the new lg oled G3, the Lytmi is alot more pricey but oh so gooooood lol
I've had these for a couple of years now on my 75" TV and my wife now wont watch TV without them, everyone who comes over loves the idea, the purests will say "so much for contrast and ruin the cinematic experience" to them I say on ya bike, reactive ambient backlighting is awesome
Slightly more expensive but my preferred option is with the Govee Sync box. Plugs in between the HDMI connection to work out the colours from the HDMI feed before it hits the screen of the TV. Must be quicker and also looks cleaner without the strap on camera. which shows up most when in use. I think a new version was announced at the Pepcom CES2024 with matter support, on a German video at the show I can see the Govee AI sync Box Kit 2 with HDMI2.1, 8k, Matterm AI Dreamview and AI gaming lighting effects.
I've got Govee's T1 immersion backlights on both of my TV's a 49" and a 60", if you are shrude you can fit it on a TV smaller than a 55". I wouldn't be without it now.
@@markholmes1158 I cant post links on here, if you search for Govee immersive on my 48" TV on Red-dit you will see pictures I posted a couple of years ago.
Great video. I just want to say I’ve got sky glass yesterday, I one major factor is the thickness… you see I moving and in my new home I’m going wall mount it, and I did want my current system that has a million cables and wire to deal with ( sound bar, sub, sky Q). So sky glass is perfect they have Dolby Atmos sound bar, built in (hence the thickness). The only downside is I can’t fine tune the sound. I would love to see a proper review of sky glass, as when I was looking into it there wasn’t many professional reviews out there. Thanks
Great review Stu and Happy New Year! Now I would love to add this type of kit to my TV but I cannot get over having the unsightly camera sitting on the top. May need to look in to an HDMI sync box instead but they are more expensive and have other downsides.
I got the RGBIC TV Backlight kit for 55" - 65" tv's during their Black Friday sale however the strips are too long for my 55" LG C2 TV so I had to leave them in the box. They should print the strip lengths in the specs so you can measure up your TV first. The vertical strips are longer than the height of the TV panel additionally the lower horizontal strip gets in the way of the input & power cables management routes / covers. It's a great idea in principle but the practicalities of installing them makes them an annoying faff not worth the effort.
Interesting that you can't mount them on the bottom of the TV anymore. I have the original Govee Immersion, and it has always been on the bottom of the TV.
I’ve been looking at those with 2.1 HDMI pass through. I’ve got an AV receiver so only one lead out to the TV. Can’t knock these for ease of use though.
Stu, I was excited to see the thumbnail but sad to see you didn't have the AI sync box kit! Imagine everything you said, but minus the camera, and with two side lights I currently have backlighting/bias lighting with a set up from dreamscreen (sadly they've died off and the app is less than useful now) Recently I upgraded from having generic strip lights to the Govee M1 lights, which are much more fun, and I really like that I can have them on a schedule. Naturally I'm now looking to upgrade all my lights to Govee, so I'll only need the one app
Haha… I need something else to feature in a future Govee episode, so stay tuned. 😉 And I know right… for the most part they are pretty inexpensive… quite easy to go mad with their lighting 😅
@@StusReviewsUK I'll be looking forward it it! Yeah exactly, inexpensive and definitely worth it. The app is genuinely useful too, with the controls, store, and help centre all in one place I'm just glad I've only got the one room to decorate - if I had a whole house it would be best for my paychecks to go directly to Govee 😅
Ive stuck with the T1 Lights specifically because they offer the ability to mount on the bottom of the TV. I do NOT want to place it on the top of my TV. So i guess ill be stuck on t1 forever. The tv is hung up so trying to put it on some type of stand under it isnt really viable.
I’ve got the govee tv 3 lite set. Great review as always Stu. I have the T1 lights and had them for a while now (before the T2 came out) and I have always been impressed with them. But I must say I like the T3 look. The T2 sounds good but the bulky camera kinda puts me off. Do you know if the LEDs are compatible with each version?l
I have the older version and only a 55" tv but I have my TV mounted in an IKEA unit so have the leds mounted around the back of the unit. So it's technically on a 70" lol. Looks great inside the unit and works great but would like the new one.
I was watching this episode with my T1 on with my smart curtain lights, Lyra lamp and table lamp all linked to it with dreamview! You should have tried it with all your string lights! Looking to upgrade but thinking I'll wait for the high spec 3
Haha, like I said - we had to use Ryan’s for this one. So my own lighting was left out of the pot on this one… might see if I can convince the wife to let me buy a bigger TV… purely for work of course 👀
