I remember watching this game on TV live. What a beautiful match. Azhar and Tendulkar gave hope when there was little hope against a devastating South African bowling lineup. I love how Azharuddin always took a liking for Klusener and clobbers him again and again. Great memories.

But in onedayers, Sachin played many matches with high elegance and with his own un matchable style which was really a treat to watch. No Azhar was able to reach him either in style or in class in onedayers. Azhar was consistent in 80's but not at all in 90s which was Sachin's era. It was seldom that Azhar played brilliantly but he gave up his wicket very cheaply on many occasions when the team expected a good knock from him as the senior most player. Sachin lost his touch during 2000s due to injuries, but regained it miraculously during his later career to play some ashtonishing knocks when he was 35+. Azhar obtained discredit at such age. Strike rate of one or two matches doesn't tell us the potency of a player. In many matches we can see Azhar wasting so many balls for just a few runs.
What an innings by Azhar, unfortunately got run out. This is probably his best test innings. He was in great form.

I remember watching this match live on TV. There was tension all around as India had lost 5 wkts. Sachin battling at one end. Then walked in the great Azar. I remember just before this innings Sachin met the great man Nelson Mandela, had a short chat in the field. After that meeting he found the much needed inspiration and he converted into those magical strokes on the field.. Superb stroke filled centuries from 2 best batsmen.. Azar's wristy strokes were a treat to watch, and sachin's straight on drives. It was grt catch by Adam bacher that curtailed sachin's innings for 169. Can't just forget that match..
