      @@polarig1030 His reaction-focused content. His ridiculous advice to take 4 weeks off lifting. His lack of nuance and his assumption of his own greatness (Ronnie Coleman would be bigger if..., Strongmen don't need to do front squats, etc.). His best content was a few years ago with his "hypertrophy made simple" series and other such videos

    • @polarig1030
      @polarig1030 4 месяца назад +84

      @@nh1776 His reaction content is more entertaining to a wider audience. Given that he gives generally good advice, I'm sure you would want more people to be listening to him rather than the dozens of "gurus" out there. His advice to take a month off of training seemed to be very nuanced. He makes it clear it should only be done by people who are training at a professional level, and suffering from burnout, fatigue etc. If you have any examples of him actually lacking nuance I would like to see them. His ideas for what Ronnie could have done better do seem to have at least some merit to them. I don't know why you would write them off right away because "Ronnie did every bit of his training perfectly, and he couldn't have possibly been ANY bigger"? I guess I just don't get what you're seeing.

    • @nh1776
      @nh1776 4 месяца назад +2

      @@polarig1030 It just bothers me when he seems so sure that his methods work best and that he can't even fathom a situation where Ronnie's training wouldn't have been improved by his methods.
      And why the hell even make a video about taking 4 weeks off when you know most people won't analyze the nuances and will instead just use it as an excuse to not train hard or quit being consistent. Not to mention I think it's just factually untrue that anyone who programs well will need to take that much time off

    I know everyone's already said it, but the minimal editing style, lack of music, low-key atmosphere of this one is really appreciated. It puts the emphasis on the actual content instead of on hollow, distracting editing flair.

    As far as pain during pullups goes, I gave myself bicep tendonitis and messed up my scapular muscles by doing inadequate warmups before pullups. Now I warm up with scapular pullups, warmup my biceps and then do a short rest in the shortened position (Bob and Brad's YT channel has good tips for this), and then do my normal warmups and working sets. These days I'm generally pain free.

    Exercises in reserve makes since. I just recently started this training philosophy. I feel better about my training now, because I've back off of doing 5 exercises per body part. I'd be in the gym for hours, because I couldn't see another way. It's such a satisfying feeling, limiting the amount of exercises, and rotating after a few months to a different ones in reserve, instead of trying to cram them all into one gym session.

    My fave part was the audio. "Raw" documentary style. Like you had a boom mic, and a sound person.

    I enjoyed the audio. Nice mix up from the normal fast takes and random electric guitar strums. Like a weightlifting podcast.

    Very good edit. Good camera work. Definitely felt like just being there at the gym listening to these wise guys talk. Rare to see a video that's not full of cuts, music etc.

    I literally say this all the time! If you doing pull ups the rite way you can barely clear 5 sets 6-8 reps. I have a love hate with pull ups but I still do em lol

    in ancient greece the philosophers would hang out and talk at the gyms (more like just public places, since they didnt really have gyms like we do but still) and this reminds me of that. like we’re here to improve our bodies through work, and improve our minds through talking with eachother

    10:00 not to be that guy, but the PEDs help get away with such minimal volume. I've seen Sam Sulek continually do a leg day of just quad extensions and lying leg curls and his legs are massive. PEDs make a huge volume difference

      As he said, not necessarily much less volume just less exercises. Why do two different rows if the first one is feeling really good?

    Pullups rock. You can basically progress them forever, and there's always a variation that keeps them feeling fresh. I got some pullup handles recently that I put on a high straight bar at my gym (like 9 feet up, it's part of one of those mega multi station pieces of equipment with monkey bars). The handles are much easier on my elbows, the diameter is closer to a barbell and not like the usual fat grip pullup handles that are on most public gym combo units (which are usually covered with that slippery rubberized sleeve that slides in your hands). The handles allow for easy width adjustment, and I don't have to use straps anymore since my grip is way more locked in on the thinner handles. Mine are from Kensui, but there are other brands out there. I got them in neutral and 45 degree angle. Had been getting elbow tendinitis and these have pretty much gotten rid of it, I can hit pullups twice a week now, no problem.
    My gym also only has 1 plate loaded vertical pull hammer strength style machine, and it's angled so you can only do underhand grip. The handles even work on there so that I can do my preferred neutral grip on the machine.

    just a small suggestion for the cameraman. Rather than follow the heads closely to keep it in center like in the beginning pull up section for example, Just take a step back and keep the camera more static. It would help a lot with eye fatigue for the viewer.
