This is my first video I have watched of Eugene but I really appreciate the raw nature of this, including the heavy breathing. As someone who struggles to progress past a beginner level, it is good to see and hear what the training intensity feels and sounds like.

Eugene, the production on this video is so refreshing. The low-key vibe and no music/jump cuts/10-jokes-per-minute work so well here. Amazingly done and I'd love to see more vids like this one in the future!
Coming from a calisthenics background pullups and dips are truly the goat exercises and will always be part of my workouts. People also always rush to add weight to both, if you keep the tempo slow and controlled you can progress on them for years before even adding any external weight.
Working through all the various grips and vectors of calisthenics movements and a good diet will create a body that is more aesthetic and strong than 80-90% of people walking around.
I agree, although I have found for me adding some weight to dips and pullups helps keep me mentally engaged a bjt better vs just constantly hammering bodyweight reps. I'll go back and forth every few months.
@@Ventryx You can certainly do that. Probably still need a few reps/sets of that, but guys who do Cali can certainly achieve that level of skill and control. You can’t go wrong with the fundamentals.
its a true salient point dr mike makes about reducing your number of exercise. after going from 7 plus exercises, many of which were super sets, to doing 1-4 exercises a workout and doing up to 8 sets each exercise ive made such good strength gains and proficiency in my workouts, and the feeling of entering in s new workout or exercises one my routine feels absolutely meaning! 24.8.5

As far as pain during pullups goes, I gave myself bicep tendonitis and messed up my scapular muscles by doing inadequate warmups before pullups. Now I warm up with scapular pullups, warmup my biceps and then do a short rest in the shortened position (Bob and Brad's YT channel has good tips for this), and then do my normal warmups and working sets. These days I'm generally pain free.
Surprisingly good video by any aspect, I also didn't expect them to hit their backs seriously and do pull ups for sets especially for big guys is a no joke , it really does take effort unlike most other back training videos where you see pros repping 50 or 60kg till the end of days, looking huge yet , most of them can't do even a set of a few pull ups, I respect these dudes effort

Exercises in reserve makes since. I just recently started this training philosophy. I feel better about my training now, because I've back off of doing 5 exercises per body part. I'd be in the gym for hours, because I couldn't see another way. It's such a satisfying feeling, limiting the amount of exercises, and rotating after a few months to a different ones in reserve, instead of trying to cram them all into one gym session.

10:00 not to be that guy, but the PEDs help get away with such minimal volume. I've seen Sam Sulek continually do a leg day of just quad extensions and lying leg curls and his legs are massive. PEDs make a huge volume difference
Pullups rock. You can basically progress them forever, and there's always a variation that keeps them feeling fresh. I got some pullup handles recently that I put on a high straight bar at my gym (like 9 feet up, it's part of one of those mega multi station pieces of equipment with monkey bars). The handles are much easier on my elbows, the diameter is closer to a barbell and not like the usual fat grip pullup handles that are on most public gym combo units (which are usually covered with that slippery rubberized sleeve that slides in your hands). The handles allow for easy width adjustment, and I don't have to use straps anymore since my grip is way more locked in on the thinner handles. Mine are from Kensui, but there are other brands out there. I got them in neutral and 45 degree angle. Had been getting elbow tendinitis and these have pretty much gotten rid of it, I can hit pullups twice a week now, no problem. My gym also only has 1 plate loaded vertical pull hammer strength style machine, and it's angled so you can only do underhand grip. The handles even work on there so that I can do my preferred neutral grip on the machine.
just a small suggestion for the cameraman. Rather than follow the heads closely to keep it in center like in the beginning pull up section for example, Just take a step back and keep the camera more static. It would help a lot with eye fatigue for the viewer.
