Unluckily, one scarcely finds the materials or information about this kind of craftsmanship in my country. It’s a sunshine to be able to watch you work so patiently. You really inspired me and no doubt I’ll be working on a crinoline soon. Thank you so much for sharing such a wonder
I wanted to turn a cheap hoop crinoline into a smaller bustle because I just bought a nicer full length crinoline, but I couldn’t wrap my head around how to get the shape I wanted. This was very useful to see to estimate how I might need to alter it, I’m very great-full!
Thank you so much im now no way as scared to make my own hoops. I was just wondering if you could do a video how to make one of these with the fabric in between the hoops like the long one you briefly showed on this video.
To make one with fabric you have to sew twill tape onto the fabric to create casings for the steel - the ties are used for fabric cages in the same way they were used here. Check out the cage pattern at www.farthingalescorsetmakingsupplies.com
Thank you so much for the tutorial and your website to buy the stuff! I'll be tackling a hoop skirt for my next cosplay and this was extremally useful!
Muchas gracias por compartir tus conocimientos, aunque no entendí tu idioma, su explicación fué muy clara y de gran aporte. Muchas gracias nuevamente. Le mando un abrazo desde Colombia 🌹
Thank-you for such a clear and informative video. I have to make a crinoline on short notice but this was a big help. If I ever need to make another one I will order the correct supplies.
A bustle is a totally different shape - no matter what type of bustle, so no a cage pattern could not be adapted. I wouldn't use it to make a Farthingale either, it would be easier to find a pattern for a Farthingale. The Mantua Maker website has Farthingales patterns.
Hey mam..need your help...I want to make a panel ball gown with steel boning so that the panels of the gown remain in shape but how will I connect the steel boning panel together? Please tell ..
I'm not sure what your are asking. The video shows how to connect the hoop and how to use tapes to alter the shape. Do you mean panniers? Panniers do not attach together they attach to a waist band.
Amazing tutorial, thank you! One question, about how much steel did it take to make this short cage? I’m making one similar and am unsure of how much to buy.
If click on the pattern, that you want, on the website it will take you to the item - and in the item details there will be a link to purchase the pattern from the maker of the pattern. I can no longer get printed patterns.
@@farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655 Is the pattern for the cage shown at minute 1:42 available? If yes, could I have the direct link to it? Thanks in advance.
@@_xxsimoxz_7310 I don't recall exactly which pattern that was - I made this about 20 years ago. But here is a link to Truly Victorian patterns - Most of the cages I made were either by them or by Simplicity trulyvictorian.info/index.php/product-category/womens-patterns/
what would you sugest to do if you need to make one of these but have no hooping in the front. because the skirt has a clear panel in the from that you can see the legs through. very clearly has no hoops in the front
Thank you so much for this video. Just wandering - can you make a completely open hoop skirt - so that it will show fx a pair of pants underneath or do you always need a closed hoop for it to stay round?
The hoop steel I use is "spring steel" so it's very flexible and does not stay in a circular shape unless it is held with the connectors - unlike a hulahoop which is solid and would stay circular...so, "no" . Keep in mind that if you were to use a hulahoop you would not have the flexibility that would allow you to sit down.
@@farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655 Thank you.. that makes sense.. :-).. but how do you then make those "half hoops" that are just used on the hips - is that another type of hoop steel then..??
It helps to get into and out of the crinoline and...it's the way it was always done - depending on your size you may be able to make closed hoops all the way up.
I hace also found in research it was for when they sit down in chairs and sofas that open hoop in top will ease up and it can lay better and also dont have any accidents where the hoops near the waist push up or skirt and show you undergarments
I bought your kit a few years ago. This must be a new video. My kit said that you didn't have the right material for the waist band, so I sent something diffent. My poor cage crinoline was a hot mess. Even with sewing the steel in place did not help.

It was less than 5 meters. I think it was about 3 meters, but I made it a long time ago and don't recall.
@@farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655 thank you!
Hi! Can you use tutu steel as a replacement for the hoop steel or is it not as strong?
Yes, you can use tutu steel.
Thank you for that tuto! How many meters of hoop still did you used? Thanks :)
About 7 meters. You need to measure the circumference of each hoop you want to make and add them, all together to get the total.

Makes getting in and out easier and allows the front to lay flatter - so you don't have a big belly look
