    Could a cage crinoline pattern be adapted to make a bustle or farthingale?

    • @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655
      @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655 2 месяца назад

      A bustle is a totally different shape - no matter what type of bustle, so no a cage pattern could not be adapted. I wouldn't use it to make a Farthingale either, it would be easier to find a pattern for a Farthingale. The Mantua Maker website has Farthingales patterns.

      If click on the pattern, that you want, on the website it will take you to the item - and in the item details there will be a link to purchase the pattern from the maker of the pattern. I can no longer get printed patterns.

    What kind of busk would be appropriate for an early Edwardian corset? I trying to decide between straight or spoon, but not sure if a spoon busk would have been used because of the straight fronted style.

    • @OpheliaFearblink
      @OpheliaFearblink 4 года назад

      From what I've seen based on extant corsets, definitely a straight busk for Edwardian corsets. Makes sense as they where patterned and marketed as straight front styles. This feature made them "healthier" than the "old" late Victorian style that had a curved front line (and busk). That doesn't mean you can't use a spoon busk on an Edwardian corset if you'd like it and corset doesn't have to be historically accurate. Really depends on what you're wishing to create. Good luck and happy sewing! 🧵🖤🧵

    Hi, I was wondering how long a busk should be? If my pattern is 12 inches long in total should I have a 12 inch busk? Maybe shorter to accommodate the binding? Also, great videos! I visited your online store after watching your videos and while shipping to the US is wildly expensive - I will still be saving up money to eventually buy some coutil from your store.

    • @OpheliaFearblink
      @OpheliaFearblink 4 года назад

      Front busk should definitely be shorter than the front seam length of the pattern (without seam allowances) to accommodate for the width of edge binding on both sides. When starting out, it's a great help to make a mockup (tarp and industrial zip ties) before ordering corset making supplies. This makes sure the right busk length is ordered as fitting has been done. Good luck! 🍀🍀🍀
