    I laugh so hard every time I watch Markus perform those 4 reps of the leg press, while Mike and Ray stand there with blank looks on their faces like they’ve seen this a million times with their hundreds of other clients 😂

      @@guiille_3662 Big Mike says usually just catch your breath then proceed to another exercise or set. He also even mentioned that it’s better for your cardiovascular system to keep the heart rate high instead of resting longer between sets letting your heart slow down just to turn it back on again.

      @@guiille_3662 enough to catch your breath. First Movements (Leg Extension & Leg Press) should be treated as a superset with very minimal rest. Leg press to hamstring curls you can catch your breath. 1-2 minutes.

      the vid quality is low, but if you look closely, you can almost notice a small red dot of light on Markus' forehead. All of Menzer's routines were enforced by sniper

      I used that machine several times back in the 1980s and it was one of a kind, the cam was configured to make the weight much heavier the more your legs got to straightening out, where they are the strongest. Definitely the best leg press machine ever invented.

    I love following these works outs have been doing so for a few months, only thing is gyms are so crowded now so it’s hard to do supersets and I alwyws have to wait on a few machine to open

    I didn’t know about the hand grip. I was about to pass out, couldn’t stand, couldn’t catch my breath after leg press. And I didn’t know what happened. Mike answered. Not nervous anymore

      It's super taxing on multiple levels. HOWEVER, after a few months, your neurological adaptations make it much easier to then just focus on perfecting form and progressive overload over time.

    For me, mentzer heavy duty really suits my goal. I can recover properly and come back stronger for the short & intense around 30mins workout. 3 - 4 days btw workout, i can do my swim/bike /run training. (i'm doing triathlon as an age grouper). can train for both my endurance events and keep my musle/strength at the same time.

    I’d love to see a study done with like 50 sets of same gendered twins. 25 twins train with more volume and high intensity. While the other 25 trained with the Mentzer approach. I wonder how the results my vary

      i think studies on this wont work. 99% of the people you will meet, even in the gym with great progress are mentally not able to push to the absolute limit let alone untrained newbee folks for a study

      At least 90% of the people at my gym push every set to failure including myself. Why start the exercise if you’re not giving 100%? Waste of time.

    I dont train like mike but i sure did cut back alot.
    No more 5 to 6 times a week that was killing my gains.
    Always sore always in pain didnt grow much.
    Now training 3 times max a week and i am feeling alot stronger and if grown alot compared to 5/6 times a week.
    And NO MORE PAIN!!!

      On just my first leg day I could do 350 lbs leg press for tens of reps, but I have really good leg genetics and play football ⚽ as a defender.

    I just came from gym i was doing legs, and i could barely drive my car, barely walked the stairs... before while i was doing "regular" training it was just like ok no tyredness in legs or anything.

    They were the great teachers, but afraid with those last 4 reps conditions, i mean those clients when used to walk away after a brutal leg session in gym, they were definitely walking barely 😂, but jokes apart so tragic fate to lost them decades ago while we are learning today by just watching their old vids

    Basically getting heavier to find your potential With each set and very slow in a nut shell this is what they did. Interesting. Leg press press 6,4,3 extension 6 superset to leg press x3, ham curls 3?, calves 7, 1 with long pause at top

    I just did the chest day today is leg day after my rest days. My chest is still feeling the workout, I use to work out ever other day or 4 straight and 3 off. I can easily get a six pack and look cut, but I want size.

    Hey John, thank you for uploading these. I'm reviewing this video before Leg Day based on the ideal program from another video. The Exercises match entirely except for the addition of the hamstring curl (& Lat Pullovers for chest and back day 1). Seeing as this was Mike's most recent presentation of his ideal split, is it acceptable to add the hamstring curl & lat Pulldowns demonstrated in this DVD? (Of course, accounting for additional recovery, keeping track of strength, and avoiding additional inroads)

    Hi, I have a question. I can´t do leg extensions, because it puts too much stress on my knee, so I need to subsitute it with some other exercise. What would you suggest? I thought maybe about bulgarian split squat superseted with squats or leg presses.

      Those work, or even try lunges with resistance bands anchored so your lead leg has to fight it, while coming back (athleanx)

      After the warm up set which is on the leg press cuz it warms up all the leg muscles. It’s 1 set for each exercise 1set of leg extension then immediately go back to leg press do 1 set then take a few minutes of a break then do 1 set of hamstring curl then immediately got calve raise do 1 set

    So ok i get it isolate the muscle then compound his ass up with a weight that allows max of 4-5 reps ok until complete failure, ok.
    But i do this 1 time ? Or multiple times?

      He’s saying that the body is a closed hydraulic system. Meaning, that if you grip the handles on a machine too tightly, it restricts blood circulation, causing a buildup and increase in blood pressure. This is something to be avoided.

    Question to the community: if I don’t have access to a leg extension machine, what movement can I substitute to hit the same muscle group? 🦵

      I just put standard bar with weights on my lower shins. Make sure to put a pad on it so that it won't be painful
