      One thing they're not mentioning is what the benefits of holding at the top of the pull up are. Isometrics (static holds) strengthen the tendons. Stronger tendons will prevent injury (tendinitis, nerve impingements, tendon tears etc) and allow you to gain muscle mass faster.

    That last quote from Jared, "they're all trying to row for their lats, but that's not what the row was designed for..." sums up why I had such shitty back width as a newbie. So many videos on rows like 5-10 years ago all talk about rowing "for your lats" when actually focusing on exercises in that overhead stretched position absolutely destroy them for lat hypertrophy. I started doing lat prayers about a year or so ago when I saw the RP guys doing them and my back has gotten so much wider whilst I've maintained the thickness I built early on with heavy deadlifts and rows. This is such a well thought-out back work out and great explanation for the movements involved.

    • @JHCastelo
      @JHCastelo 4 месяца назад +2

      I always had a nightmare when activating lats during barbell row. I dumped them from my training most of last year, did only vertical pulling and lat prayers. But man, I'm starting my workouts with some barbell reverse grip integrated partials, they are Wild for the lats and lower traps!

    • @KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings
      @KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings 4 месяца назад +3

      People don't disengage their traps and rhomboids during rows (setting their shoulders low and back like in a bench press). But also yeah I do pull-down, prayers, and X pulls, the finish off with superset cable Kelso shrugs and standard shrugs

    • @KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings

      @@polypom8453 because a Kelso shrug kinda forgets about the trap fibers connected to the neck; soo a Kelso shrug for a majority of the top and mid trap fibers then standard shrugs to your ear to finish off those fibers attached to the back of the neck.

    Awesome collab, I hope to see more like this in the future. Rare to see Mike have so little commentary! I can sense that you are lifting from "within" instead of focusing the external weights, the form is demonstrated so well in this video, a great example.

    Menno says it doesn't matter going so slow on the eccentric in studies, 1 or 3 seconds, its all the same, you just need control and you shouldn't sacrifice reps for eccentric tempo.

    All you need is a vertical pull, a horizontal pull, a hip hinge, and a pullover exercise. You select an exercise for each one of those your back will blow up. Just make sure you start out with only two and work your way up to doing all 4 since it can take a bit for your recovery to get used to that.

    • @janpetira5130

      I do pullups, chest-supported db rows, single-arm cable rows. All slow, controlled. That is my back workout (i don´t do traps as they cause headaches for me and are big anyways)... i wonder why would i need pullover? I don´t fancy them too much and i feel like 2 lat exercises and a row is enough for the whole back. Hip hinge, well i have romanian deadlifts on leg day if that´s what you mean.

    Eugene you cut your hair. And I know you and Mike are short, 5'6" and lower, not saying bad on that, but it's nice I've been subbed to you for years, to see good collabs. I been doing your single calf raises isolations in my workouts and everyone's been saying I'm getting Mike Matarazzo calves, genetics plays a huge part I know, but I never did isolations til you showed them with he kettlebells/dumbbells. As Frank Zane said, hard work beats genetics every time, well I'm paraphrasing.
