“Folks like me who are nervous about going to the local box because they have an injury and they’ve heard it’s dangerous. We know that’s not true.”
As an affiliate owner and diehard defender of the core methodology, I am constantly battling this false perception of CrossFit being dangerous, and this makes me VERY excited to hear. I just want to remove any barriers and excuses people have that keep them from walking through our doors.

I walk into most boxes around this country and completely understand why people feel its dangerous and it does hurt people. Most boxes are not doing what they should be and are not holding the standard. Most have a couple of L1 coaches that are really just turning the music up and starting the clock. Which is why HQ HAS to do quality control and follow that up by highlighting the highest rated boxes.

@@antoniomaceo4706 do the members of those gyms choose to continue their membership? Or are they being forced to workout there? Adults are free to make their own decisions about whether the value of their gym is worth the cost, and the free market rewards or punishes the business owners accordingly. If a gym is really hurting people, then it will develop that reputation and people will likely avoid it. Also, don't forget that functional movements are inherently safe, so as long as intensity is tempered until mechanics and consistency are established (which usually has more to do with the athlete's ego than the coach's attentiveness), they will likely not hurt themselves.
Although more opportunities for education and improvement are always warranted, HQ does NOT need to do any quality control of individual affiliates, otherwise it would become a franchise model. I'll take advice, but I don't want anyone else TELLING me how to run my business. Besides, the harder we make it to start a CrossFit gym, the less people get exposed to CrossFit, and to paraphrase Greg Glassman, people don't need perfect technique nearly as much as they need to DO these movements, so we should keep the affiliate owner funnel as wide as possible.
CrossFit is no more dangerous than any other training methodology, and the benefits FAR outweigh the risks. More people need to know that to battle the lie that CrossFit hurts people.

Over/under how many times Ackerman says something inappropriate in this episode. I set the early line at 4 and will take the over. And I know Fern is pumped to have another Naval Academy grad running the company.
