Met Ice-T a few years ago when he came & spoke at my university here in Ohio. It was a free lecture where he spoke about his life & racial issues in America. Super interesting guy with a crazy background; he was some sort of spec-ops/black beret in the Army & used his skills to commit robberies & stuff when he came back home. We all got pictures with him & he was super friendly. I’m sure he’s mellowed out over the last 30 years, but it sounds like he was chill even then going by your story. I think he must have liked you, Harry! All of the pictures you took were awesome! Great video as always.
Whoa, why haven’t I ever seen this channel? You got a new follower here. I’d definitely listen to 45 minute or even hour long sessions while I work. I’ve only seen a few posts and This is Excellent Content! Interesting, historical really and downright Cool!
I love this channel, not only because of my interest in photography, but it also takes me back to my early 20’s! Harry’s photos are the photographic backdrop to my youth. Each photo is like leafing through an old family album, these are great videos, long may they continue.
Stumbled across your channel today and lost - er, gave willingly - most of my Sunday afternoon and evening to around half of your 50 vidoes. Great stories. Great pix.
Love it when a new video pops in my feed! Another great story - definitely worth taking the risk to go see Ice T rather than waiting around! Lovely pics too
MORE new glasses ! When the glasses video comes, it's going to have to be a loooong one ! 😀 That's THE classic iconic photo of Ice-T ! I had no idea Harry took it !
Please keep doing these great videos . As a professional photographer myself since 1986 I can appreciate what it means to have a passion for the craft and what it took to get the right shot shooting with film . Amazing stories guys
Woah! Another great video and I'm intrigued by the cross-processing. I guess you'd done it plenty of times before, but how did (or does) the tension feel with the processing of those precious rolls, especially in this case with a very important early shoot that you travelled a long way for and gone out on a limb to get the light. I well recall the nervous anticipation of every roll of B&W I processed, so this must have been immense.
Brilliant video - as always - guys. Your channel is pure gold. A question, if may. Say you're commissioned to photograph a celebrity in a hotel. Do you bring lots of equipment, to cover any eventuality, or do you bring a minimalist kit - because experience tells you it's all you need? Keep up the excellent work. Regards, Ciarán
Wow 😂 i love the story i remember your dad's photos of Ice T being in a magazine from that time i bought it on post while living in Germany!!!! Extra cool channel!!!
The blue Ice-T photo is still stunning, especially when you see the whole frame, as opposed to the magazine crop. It shows the importance of having the "photographer's eye". The look of that photo wouldn't have shown in the optical viewfinder, so I guess Harry just had to previsualise it and know it would look like that once it was developed?
Thanks a lot as always! It is one of my favourite pics of Harry's. I think it is part that but also those punchy colours from cross processing was quite common from Harry at the time. @Harryborden what do you think?
Sorry for my tardiness! The previsualisation was mainly do with knowing how the flash would darken the sky. I was on my back, looking through the viewfinder, so I was able to compose the picture. 🙏
@@harryborden6077 Thank you for being so generous with your time and information. I saw your reportage on Starmer in the Guardian today. Outstanding work.
🐈'Ah so YOU have been invited, do make sure you get a photo of me on that red carpet, it makes me look quite regal' I have a collection of Select The Photographic Showcase magazines from the 90's but I can find no reference to them now, pre Phototshop times. Another fascinating talk, I look forward to more. 👍
Very interesting! Thank you! How did you achieve the barrel of the shotgun AND the eye being in focus in those three b/w portraits? A double exposure??
Hi Fred and Harry. The pressure must of been immense to get a picture of, Larry the Cat, as failure to do so would of left Harry's reputation floating down the swanee :-) Do you think it is to Harry's advantage that he has a benign appearance and Americans underestimate him as a result? I call it the, Eve Arnold, factor. Also, if, for example, Harry wanted to do a line of merch called - 'Harry in the Hood' hoodies with the Ice T photo. Would he need permission from anyone or would his copyright ownership of the picture mean he would not have to? Have a good start to the week fellas
Hi, I own the copyright and I can use my IP editorially. If the video's are about my photography, it's fine. I think merchandise (including hoodies) would have to be about the fact I took the picture and my oeuvre. If they just had a picture of Ice T, he might argue for a share of revenue generated...
Thanks. You must have been a very early adopter! The very first Photoshop version was released in January 1988 and was very primitive software compared to the huge juggernaut that Adobe developed over time. I started using it around this time (1993) but had to get someone to scan my originals before we manipulated them on his computer. 🙂
@@fredandharryborden Yes, during my shoot with the Spice Girls outside the lifts of the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel in Las Vegas...Diddy an his entourage passed through...

Harry cross processed a lot of stuff during this era. I often wonder this too!l. I'd be stressing haha

Love your stuff but this most certainly wasn't before Photoshop. We had a bureau late 80's and were using Photoshop then.

Did you ever risk anything for some Diddy pictures? 😅
I shot Kanye West (and also Run DMC, PM Dawn, Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang & others) but never photographed Diddy!
