I am absolutely grateful to the God's of Algorithms for having this fantastic piece land up in my stream. What a phenomenal story and so beautifully told, hats off 🎉
What an absolutely outstanding video presentation this was! Tears welled up in my eyes for several portions of itl. What an honor to be related to such talented Photographer! As a Photographer myself, I was so impressed with his work. And to have the program featuring you in his footsteps. Thank You!
Wonderful video and great shots Mr Suchet, I particularly liked your mining shots and the shot with the sheep. Your grandfathers work was fabulous, he really was a great photographer, thank you for sharing.
The algorithm put this on my que !!!! 😊 Very inspiring and beautiful photos amazing 😍 how he was able to retraced the steps of his grandfather .... astonishing photography from both!!!
What a lovely documentary, I'm really delighted. I appreciate David Suchet very much for his delicacy and elegance of attitude as a person and for his performance as an actor, so I have seen more than once the dozens of Hercule Poirot's episodes that he masterfully embodied. As an amateur photographer, this documentary is such inspiring, that all I want is to pick one of my old and simple rangfinder cameras, like that Leica, and immediately go out, to the street and pick up every opportunity to photograph. Thanks a lot for uploading this marvellous video.
A wonderful film, beautifully done. One can only think that had he been in New York, Jimmy would have been as well known as Eisenstaedt, Capa and the Magnum photographers. Sad that he didn't get the recognition he deserved here in the UK.
This is absolutely amazing. I did something similar with my grandfather’s photography as he documented life after fleeing Soviet occupation. Visited the places he lived. Even used his old camera. Talk about connection. Spectacular
@@luisbustamante9869 I think it gives us a tangible connection to our past. A shared experience of sorts. Literally standing in the exact spots my dad did when he was 4 years old. Enjoying the same places he told us stories about. The connection was overwhelming.
What a great documentary. I love how David still uses a film camera. It wouldn’t have been the same if he had used digital. He was so amazed when he was able to see his images on the contact sheet. He really is a great photographer and his images look timeless. He certainly captured the knack of taking people pictures. I’ve always found pictures of people to be most interesting.
What a wonderful and insightful documentary. David did a wonderful job and I suspect Jimmy would have been honored and proud of him. Thank you for sharing!
David, the video was simply the Ultimate video ever! I'm biased! Your acting made me a fan! The use of Leica M3, slightly older than mine! Ziggy, the M3 is 57 years in my use, from new! 1967. Your images are classic and great! Superlative work. Many thanks for sharing all of this! Bravo! Bravo!
How amazing is that. I randomly watched this and really enjoyed it only to discover it was directed by my old mate Steve and also cut by Andy. No wonder I enjoyed it. An excellent director and editor. You could knock me over with a feather.....lol
what a lovely program and so well presented by David .He is a natural at getting on with people .He is quite right. You do not need fancy equipment just a photographic eye to see with. Do not just look at things see them.
I was looking for tutorials on bw or, more commonly known as monochrome, when I came across this lovely piece of passionate work. I can clearly see, just like his grandfather, David is also a 'people' person. As an admirer of Agatha Christie, it is lovely to see my absolutely favourite 'Hercule Poirot' is still producing works of class.
I love taking photographs. Apart from family pics I tend to follow the safe option and shoot objects and scenery rather than people. This has made me reappraise my photography and realise that I’m missing a trick. Some of the photos were wonderful.
Besides David's brilliant acting career I knew he was a photographer who used a Leica but this documentary of how he became interested in the art is very well put together! Cameras mean nothing to me but the pictures do, one day I must try a Leica out but it wont make me a good photographer! This was a lovely to watch, thank you for showing it!
What a wonderful tribute to one of the great photographers of the 20th century. David Suchet has inherited his grandfather's talent. Thanks for posting this.I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Excellent documentary, David! Indeed, excellent photography by your grandfather - one of the few, from ‘back in the day’! David, your grandfather would be proud of you with the quality of output from these handful of projects for this documentary! 🥰
I love b&w photos. I love the old cameras and miss it. Today we shoot thousands of soulless photos but that one black and white that I would get in a roll is priceless. David seems genuine and I really appreciated this film. Wonderful photographer and his grandfather too and congratulations on his comeback.
Marvellous!!! I so enjoyed this. Started on this path in university but lacked the confidence and courage. Given how things have changed, perhaps just as well. Thank you for sharing the story and photos of Jimmy Jarche and David Suchet.
Wonderful video. Currently I ONLY shoot black and white images. David Suchet is one of my favorite actors. I had no idea he had a passion for photography.
Wow, great video. The Hitler Desk photo should be much more famous. Thats why Photography will never die. Imagine you take a photo somebody in 100 years will find and has a meaning or a feeling. Simply great video. Thank you from Germany
Brilliant documentary - a much-loved actor revealing his very talented photographer grandfather. Thank you for uploading this gem. Just brilliant images. But where is the monograph?
Great Documentary of British Journalism, as I seen that David Suchet has a book base on this Documentary Special. On my Wish List of Photography Books.
This is a very nice documentary. Its really interesting to get to know a photographer who I hadent heard of before, even though I have seen some of his legendary photos. My god this man should be up there with all the other toop photographers in the history. And the history of the Poirot himself, following in his grand fathers footsteps, recreating some of his photos in a modern age - with his grandfathers camera, is such a delight. Heart warming even. If youre an amateur photographer- go see it. Its a great litle documentary
I worked with many photographers as a journalist. Without exception, they were all people people - establishing rapid rapport with anyone they met, something this documentary really brings out.
I live near Durham and I left school with no qualifications around 1987 .. The only job I could find was delivering sacks of coal from a local family business, so I took the job for £30 a week and it was donkey work for peanuts. . But when I look back I thank the Lord that I had the luxury of being above ground to breath fresh air each day and have the sunlight on my face and the space to move around freely.. Because these Coalminers had none of the luxuries that I had, yet they all seem to harden up to their role in life and I really admire that.. These are real men in the sense of being able to endure such hard lives without giving in or complaining, they just get on with their job.. and they seem so happy to be working.
16:32 - This must be one of the best moments in any documentary. Wonderful, especially when she starts slagging off those dirty Ackermans. Also David, when she says they were all miners, in a mining village, you can really stop asking what all the men in her family did ..... "Miner" ..... "Miner" ..... "Miner". Maybe he was expecting at least one "I.T. Consultant", or "Yoga teacher".
Absolutely priceless, thank you for posting this film, it’s lovely.

100% agree.
Reveals the power of photography connecting generations and leaving a visible mark of history. David brings it alive for us.
same here
As a photographer I love the way this was made David is a natural with people and didn't know he was a photographer. Thanks for posting this.
Yes it's a lovely show and you can tell David has a genuine interest in photography.
Such a true National Treasure! He interviews the public as its just a conversation, truly gifted! More please?
I can't believe how.deeply moving this was for me! Thank you!
An excellent programme
That photo where David points out the shadow from the tennis racket on the lady's face looking like a veil...just brilliant
A brilliant and informative film.
Wonderful video and great shots Mr Suchet, I particularly liked your mining shots and the shot with the sheep. Your grandfathers work was fabulous, he really was a great photographer, thank you for sharing.
A fantastic video, well done absolutely brilliant
This is an absolute gem of a documentary. Anyone with an interest for photography should watch it.
Superb program, super interesting photography from Jimmy Jarche, and just wonderful to follow DS's adventure.
I have always admired Hercule (David Suchet) as an actor and was unaware that he had an interest in photography. Wonderful video, well done David.
Best video I've seen for ages. I've admired David Suchet's acting for a long time, but only knew that he was a photographer more recently.
He’s the President of the Leica Society. You don’t have to have a Leica to join.
The algorithm put this on my que !!!! 😊 Very inspiring and beautiful photos amazing 😍 how he was able to retraced the steps of his grandfather .... astonishing photography from both!!!
What an excellent documentary, with stunning old photographs from Jimmy Jarche, and equally beautiful pictures from David Suchet.
What a fabulous show. When I saw Davis Suchet’s name I immediately clicked on. Then I watched and cried. Thank You. This. Show was wonderful.

Wow! I can feel the thrill. How photographs can make connections across time and make both family and social history meaningful.
