I'm living paycheck to paycheck but God has been good to me and my children. I pay my tithes and offering faithfully. My bills are always paid. I'm a single mom of three by the way. God is good, I focus on being positive at all times. When it comes to my children I don't care how big the bill is. They health matter more. Better safe then sorry. I like your videos.

we have a place called the great exchange thirty minutes from my house where you can take 25 pieces of clothes/books/jewelry and exchange free for 25. it is a ministry of a church. It has grown hugely. I have taken clothes people give me and took out baby blankets for people or even larger ones and used on my dog's beds which are small canvas cots. I don't even have to buy books anymore and except for underwear and shoes have not purchased clothes for years now and I work in a law firm, not going shabby

We’ve all worked since the age of 14-16, if your kids are of that age, maybe ask them to find a job? Just to help out with the bills, food, clothes, sanitary products, anything! It helps having more than one income :) hope this helps.

You are preaching what I have been doing most of my adult life. Now I have a adult daughter that has been observing me and was telling me that it was difficult to say no to invitations... I would like to tell my answer to her. I did ask her to have her friends over and talk about money for real. We would be very surprise to see how stress are these people with nice cars and nice things. I prefer to be able to sleep very well at night than wondering how we will make payments.

Another thing you can do, if you have a school of beauty in your town, they usually charge less to let the students cut hair and learn styles (if you're not really picky on how your hair looks...) I usually just put my hair in a bun, but to keep it healthy, I get a trim every 6 months. It's usually half the cost of even the cheaper of salons!

I like the Aveda schools, because I like their products, you get a nice head massage, and the instructors check in frequently to make sure the students aren't making any huge mistakes (last time I went the students even had to show the instructor a plan before even touching my hair). It took a long time, but I ended up with a good cut!

This is incredible! I somehow falsely assumed that you were frugal most of your life. I have a very similar story and I rewarded myself with a new car when I graduated with my Bachelors at 26. (I graduated later in life). I still have the car and am planning to keep the car another 6 years, if I can! Thankfully I got a large raise 6 months ago, and I've been able to save a lot more this year. I have a $118,000 mortgage and am $72,000 in student loan debt.
I've been stretching my money here and there but I know that I can do more, as far as being frugal. Thank you for your videos. I believe you offer practical advice, in a very relatable way. I'm glad I discovered your channel Dana.

Tip. Keep hair simple. Keep it long. Cut ends and fringes when hair is wet and USE DRESS MAKING PINKING SHEARS! Because of the ceration you don't get that awful chopped, straight line look amateurs often get when they use kitchen scissors or hairdressing scissors. The shears mimic the snipping the hairdresser does without the bill. If you want to do simple cuts as per RUclips then pinking shears work for those also.
If you use colour for grays buy a wash in six week treatment the same colour as your natural colour. Using cheap dies looks obvious unless it's a close match. This has worked for me for over five years. The hairdressers is an occassional treat not a six weekly money pit. Also study what they do to inform your skills!

Your "I've had it" story made me tear up. That poor baby. Thank you for sharing! I think it's so important to draw out the "why" for your reasons for being debt free and tie it to something deeper than the money. I'm about halfway through paying off my loans now. I did the same with the new car after college. If you decided to keep it and pay it off, did you refinance at a lower rate to pay off faster?

Rewatching this video now as a reminder 👍 I’m completely debt free. I ended up keeping the car and just paying that off super aggressively. I’m on steps 4-6 now. So the plan definitely works and I can say it’s COMPLETELY worth every ounce of work I put into it and was easily the best goal I’ve ever set for myself.

I have to tell you, I always have a small vehicle note (300.00 a month with insurance) and I do not find that unreasonable at all. I always buy a program car from the dealer. I start saving immediately for another vehicle even though I keep my vehicles for 10 years usually. I put $4,000 down on this vehicle I bought two years ago. I get the best deal for my money and what will still work best for me and my husband. He would love a truck, but not now (maybe never, lol). If you get a truck, to maintain the gas is much more expensive than a small SUV. You really have to weigh things out for your family.

I got onto Dave about 3 months ago. And the changes I've made already are incredible. I have the 1k emergency fund. I've paid off bigger chunks of debt than i ever have. I don't buy... anything lol, well food and general expenses. Haven't bought clothes, shoes, electronics or anything like that in a few months. It helps to make budgeting a game, to see a graph of last months spending (pocketbook great app) go way wat down has helped.
I got a second job weeding people's gardens, I'm not a gardener but it's not hard.
I'm now in transition with my full time job and I've had about 4 weeks in the last two months with no work. And if I hadn't of gotten into Dave's book I would be struggling super hard right now. I had an account set up for an extra months rent, and one for emergency... and i haven't had to touch the emergency yay!

As a culture we have to stop giving gifts to everyone for every little occasion. The adults in our family stopped extended gift exchanges years ago, it was just too out of hand and the gift giving holidays were a drudge, so we stopped. Instead we get together, cook awesome meals, and play cards. All enjoyable and way less money. The kids get a few things. My husband and I share our plans for the 2 or 3 items we are getting our son and ask family members to send a check if they feel inclined. Everything over the cost of the gifts goes to the college fund savings account and no one is paying for shipping. We put everyone's name on the "from" portion of the gift lavel.

Just found your videos and they are very inspiring. Most of you gals might be too young to remember the book, The Tightwad Gazette, (highly recommend it - you can find it at the library, Amazon, or eBay). I learned a lot of really great money saving tips from it but one thing that stood out was investment purchases, purchases that save you money in the long run, such as a particular tool or appliance that will save you money. You mentioned in one video about hanging your clothes on the line. Not only does it save on your utility bill, but the clothes smell wonderful and they last much longer.

It was good in a way because it forced me to pay cash for everything and I have never had a credit card. I can't rent a car but I can't think of anything else that I have needed a credit card for.

I buy birthday and other gifts in the last week of December. The prices are great and I don't buy something outrageous in a rush to buy a needed gift later.

Hey be as frugal as you want but not to visit your folk is wrong, they may miss you and they not getting to spend realtime with your kids.thats not fair of you to make that decision for your kids they have a right to see their family lots, ,you can't weap at someones funeral and think you going to miss them and all along you cut visits down to bare ròots when they alive, you only got one family dont put them on the frugal list, cut netflix off instead that more frugal

I tend to agree with you. Now, balance is everything. My parents lived four to six hours away. I visited at least once a month. Now, if you live states away, obviously impossible to visit as often.

My debts are my monthly bills, I've saved on electric I'm thinking about turning off my gas as it'll save me something . I've cut cable but money goes straight to other bills so I don't save anything

TRUTH - we know these things but we don't do them ... I've been watching your channel to try to spark some action in myself, I know the right thing to eat or spend money on but the gap between knowing and doing is so wide for me

Credit card companies are a scam. They always say build your credit up. But when you do you are in debt. More like build your debt up. Dump the cards use cash.

that's true if you have no self control. If you buy what you're gonna buy anyway with them instead of cash, you can enjoy the rewards and you're no worse off.
Groceries, gas, utilities. Payable with credit cards. Pay the bill in full every month.

God bless our NHS, it may have it's shortcomings but I have never had to think twice about getting medical attention due to money for my children, me or anyone else. I know that wasn't really the point you were making but it just brought that up for me.
I am enjoying watching your videos, they are motivating me to get more control over my finances ☺

You also make less money on your paycheck because you are paying for someone else's responsibility in regard to health. She could have went to her local ER which was closer. NO ONE would have turned her away because of her inability to pay. It is illegal to do so. The Urgent Care Clinic she went to was probably privately owned by a doctor's group which can deny care if not affiliated with a hospital. As for the 80.00, she could have paid it or waited to pay it ten years from the date, wouldn't have mattered. So no, I don't want to pay for anyone else. My taxes are high enough.
