His. Great work in all your videos. Quick tip with All-in-one desktops....yhe circuit somehow gets in a short and cannot snap out of it due to power from CMOS battery. Most of the time just remove CMOS battery and press Power Button for 10 seconds. Then put CMOS battery back in and 90% your machine will be fixed and work as normal.

Hello Sorin. An ESR Meter helps you a lot at electrolytic capacitors. Even if they are not swollen or leaking, they may be defective.

I always get the hard jobs. Motherboards with broken chipset BGAs....
Bought a preheat station now to replace these chips.
Diagnose a motherboard right is not easy and took a long time but it’s very interesting to see how much signals you need before a motherboard is turning on fully.

The good brand PSU's are increasing the voltage when under load. So 11V without load is normal sometimes. Good video again. :)

A sheet of thin, hard, plain white laminate like Formica stuck to my desk with 3M double-sided tape (so I can replace it with a new piece when it gets too scratched, burned and chipped) makes it a lot easier to see stuff. I stick a piece of white butyl tape near the back of the desk and press screws & small parts into it in left to right straight horizontal rows starting furthest from me and working one row closer with each sub-assembly. (as a lefty you'd work right to left I guess)
That way they don't roll around and get lost - and for reassembly I know to pick them up in reverse order. Works great almost every time.
A thermal camera on my phone shows me right away what's drawing current.
I need every advantage I can get because sadly I'm not half as skilled or as fast or as good at diagnosis as you '~'

Checking voltage by oscillope 3.4v flat h line means good DC 6.4v distorted h line means bad dry or leaky caps.mostly we use osc.tracing signal gate drive signal.etc sorin sir you are best electronic teacher of world

O mica observatie...spui asa..."usually I wil not fix the power supply on a normal desktop, just replace it because it's cheap"...a good PSU is not cheap at all, mainly from a branded computer...you cannot change a LiteOn power supply with a crap Delux power supply, or the same, for example, which is really cheap...

Thank you! I've already used a multimeter for basic PSU checking (I've also did some welding for simple/obvious stuff), however I'm quite a newbie with electronics equipment... In regards to what you say at 17:20, would it be possible to use a oscilloscope instead of a multimeter for the task at hand?

Hi Sorin, and thank you for sharing your repair experiences.
After watching your videos I volunteered to try and fix a laptop. I found a complete short on (from schematic) a ~1 volt supply. I've seen how sometimes you can find a bad cap by its heat, so I tried the current test, and alcohol, to see if something was heating up, but nothing is heating up... ~1.8 amps is going straight to ground.
I was wondering if sometimes a bad cap could be completely shorted, with no resistance that would make it heat up? If not, then would a shorted mosfet be more likely? Or maybe 2 amps is not enough in this case? Thanks!
PS I only have a fixed 13.5v supply, so I used a 12v, ~21W bulb in series with a diode to ground. The power I am applying to the motherboard's 1v supply is coming from across the diode.

An atx psu checks all power lines, if one is not good, then the atx psi gets a power failure signal. It the harddisk is acting it means the +5 volt and +12V rails are working, but an atx supply generates also +3.3V An atx supply needs a minimal load to tuntrn on or the power failure line will get high. An atx psu generates also -12 V but that was used on older ISA bus and a +5 Standby that always is available. The power OK line is grey. As soon when the power OK line is connected to groud, the atx supply will turn on. Power OK is Green. IF the CPU fan is turning, this means that the board is working
I love the effort you make to do this, I respect that. But in 'school' terms could you just make it a bit easier to see your readings on the screen it seems to not work or not sure what bit we're supposed to be looking at. Also make it easier for your 'students' to make sense of the resulting info. Just a bit of teaching info, I have done it. Cheers. Kim@Lectronix

When you check the mosfets, are you suppose to have the same voltage going in as going out if everything is working? Will they all have the same voltages on all mosfets or will there be 2 mosfets for the 3,5,12 voltages? Thanks for the videos.

hi Sorin, as alwayas thank you for your videos and knowledge. This Power supply tester is only for testing voltage or does simulate some load too. I'm asking that because I have one that only measure the voltage and sometime without a load we may think that the power supply is ok.

You should see the bios lines when booting up, unless the bios is set to a low time , the the fan of the cpu is not turning, the cpu is not destroyed, it will throttle down to a very low speed.

just like thermal cameras, it's really not worth owning one when dealing with consumer electronics repair.
Good quality caps: Rubycon, Sanyo, Panasonic, Matshushita, Chemi-Con, Nichicon. Also acceptable: Samxon (exept GF series) TK, Taicon, Teapo.
Motherboards need ultra low ESR model series and on power supply's long life high ripple rated caps.
So, the tester is useless why it was designed ?
I wonder if he will behave like that on the new power supply I suppose that device should have its own artificial load.

Most main p.c's have psu failure, the capacitors just can't take the heat and ripple.
It's the price we pay for using efficent switchmode psu's.
Same problem with lcd t.v sets, dead switchmodes.

I love your videos sorin but I don't understand why a workshop doesn't have a supply of components so when you've got a bad cap or MOSFET you can grab a new one instead of fitting one of wrong value or even missing it out completely weird ,just had to mention I only do this as a hobby but I've got sustainers of parts ready for when I need them keep up the good work happy holidays

Nah its simply poor customer service and attention to detail!
At last someone else who notices his slipshod customer service skills.
Have you also noticed he doesnt use a repair mat when working on mobile phones or laptops so could easily scratch the screens.
He is no doubt a good tech but cmon thats Indian backstreet repair levels of customer service!
If it was me I would also have brushed clean the inside of the casing not just blow it out.
And smoking in the job my boss would kick my ass if i did that!
I had to repair one of those kind of all in one computer with also a fan issue, it's was like a snail, can't find replace part so i had to deal with it...
