Amazing as always. I've never seen so much love for for a man whose channel isnt about sugar coating or mushy feeling things. Yet video after video us geeks, nerds and enthusiests keep being amazed and educated while feeling comfortable and not left out of what is actually happening. When he takes a call or goes to find parts in the shop, i feel like im there and am perferctly fine with waiting. Any other channel i would have left. I'd like to think i was his biggest fan but i think we all hold that title. My god and savior, Sorin. Sorry for my spelling.

Central pin on Dell chargers carry a 1-wire signal that decodes to charger wattage, serial number, etc.
Sadly it´s not just a "high signal" like Hp´s.

I bought some stuff to repair myself, also built a power supply myself, now learning electronic from books and online.

Second one is a Gopro, water damage and no coming on, cleaning, isolating everithing with self made liquid rosin flux as you tought, I have found a short on battery board, which was succesfully found and treated. No it is turning on :)

I would recommend the Hakko chisel tips (D-xx series) or the flat BC ones. The shape of the bend J-tips is sometimes nice, but it's tiny tip is very bad at bringing the heat to the board. The only way the J tips work for me is by using the thick curve on the back. There are also two J tips...a bit shorter and a longer one. The shorter one is a bit better than the longer, but they're both far away from the performance of the D or BC style tips.

Hakko does this so co workers won’t change temps on other persons station area. I went through the same problem as you until I found this tip out then my iron works great now. Better then my wellar. Hope you get this to help Sorin....thanks for the videos. P.S. I can tell with that tip your stuck on the factory settings. New station once you get the temps up and working right. But my impression was the same, such a cool and well made laptop. I went to Dell's website and they had like a "Workstation" category. I bet they were crazy expensive at that time.

Error mesg on screen after repair is actually a good thing as it means that the CPU and main board is at least trying to work and H/D, ram or something out of place is no good. Amazing when i saw that the layers might have been burnt and even Sorin might struggle with that one as would the manufacture on a multi layer board. Only worry i have with applying too much current is that the tracks and even layers might get burnt and 2-3 amps has to be enough to heat something up and feel it , i keep to around 2 amps unless i need add more. Parts get stressed over time so another cap might start to burn out even when you found shorted cap and then alter another cap and so on. Love this channel, best on the Interweb!!

That 3.3 volts goes from the mother board back threw the charger wire to the I.D chip in the charger if the connection to the part of the port is bad it can read on the motherboard side but not charger side. It could also be the super IO extender chip it used in dells.

I understand a lot of things and also if you haven't noticed he has beginner lessons too where you learn the very basics.
The things I find hard is like when I can measure a shut to ground, but I can't seem to locate the exact problem, and when I finally come with the amps I feel allot of components getting warm. Next just to try something I unsolder them to see if the shut to ground disappear. What I find out is, it is some voltage converter chip that splits 19v to 5v and 3.3v. And there is my dead end.
Is the chip suppose to shut to ground when the power button isn't press or is it dead?
Most of the laptops I have practiced on is build very differently than the ones in the videos.
By the way I am starting to take lessons too. But Covid have delayed everything.

Hello, Mr. Sorin. Dell laptops require a Dell adapter, otherwise it powers on but doesn't charge the battery. Theres a chip inside the dell ac adapters that comunicate with the motherboard using the center pin, telling the mobo that the adapter is authentic. If you enter the BIOS it must recognize the adapter by indicating its power (65W, 90W, 130W), etc. Maybe that's the problem. The charger you are using doesn't pass that information to the motherboard. You can google for more information.

Pop? I love your job. But Pop do you accept advice? Because there's a technique that will make you fast how to disassemble a different model of any laptops just by watching here in RUclips that really helps a lot. Just type in the brand & model of laptop then watch here in RUclips on how the guys disassemble it and each group of screws attach it with adhesive tape designed to each platform cover of laptop so it will be to make life easier, so when you assemble it back together, you know those group sizes of screws belong to that location. If I'm late to mention it, good for you those techniques and you're still impressively fast to troubleshoots issues! But luv your job giving me also good ideas. Thnx for sharing your videos pop. 🙂

I've actually got to fix a shorted board by drilling it exactly on the shorted spot. I've posted the details on the Discord channel ;)
    Cheers!

Hello Mr. Sorin, how are you? This is dell they do not detect the id signal, the frequent reason is the blown diode just from the id signal, maybe the damage to the plug caused a short circuit and the diode burned down?

You had could cut the battery cable wires and solder them directly to tracks.. the connector is not necessary to laptop functions
