    Nice work Sorin! That model HP uses the cheapest plastic I have ever seen. It is very brittle and cracks easily especially where the hinges mount. You have to be VERY careful opening the laptop when the bottom cover is removed because the hinge mounts can snap. If the hinge gets too tight it can also cause the cheap plastic mounts to break. Nothing is made to last anymore.

    I am very thankful to you Sorin, Sir for making a video of such a thorough job. It gives me inspiration to venture to work on my Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5224, which has a loose hinge, all vowels of the keyboard do not work, after watching a movie for longer than 1 hour, the screen suddenly started malfunctioning - flickering. I thought it got too hot. I opened the laptop and cleaned the fan blades and then vacuumed the air inlet (tiny holes on the top portion of the keyboard). I reinstalled the display driver and reseated the RAM, battery, touch screen. Screen flickering getting worse to a point that screen getting dim and nothing shows up on the screen. However, I used an external keyboard and external monitor connecting the monitor with a HDMI cable. The external monitor is displaying everything and playing movies perfectly. I do not want to buy a new screen. The laptop's screen was fantastic before trouble started. I have not touched the LCD display cable. However, unplugged the touch screen to reduce interference. I might have made a mistake when I unplugged the touch screen cable - perhaps did not disconnect the battery (disconnected the charger though). Sorin's video gives some hope to identify the connection point(s) of the display cable on the motherboard side as well as on the back of the screen. This model of Toshiba laptop is more complex than other models. Any feedback from viewers as well as from our Professor, Sorin is much appreciated. God Bless you, Sir!! You are really, really good - running short of words to appreciate what you do and your knowledge and mentality - help others and the environment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!!!

But, I do not use hot melt glue anymore because it is not safe enough. What I do is making small holes and put screw. This maintain the hinge with the plastic. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing your repairs, it help me when i'm stuck on a mother board and, several time, it helped me a lot to fix motherboards .

    On vacation i fix up computers and laptops in my village. I often see broken hinges and i tell the customer. We can A. Glue it together but it will likely break agin and it might not be possible, B. Buy a new screen housing but it will definetly break agin or C. Repair it proper solid with a bolt and nut on the other side. They always choose C and never regret.

    • @sweetmemories4448
      @sweetmemories4448 3 года назад

      I applied A (JB Weld two compound mixed thoroughly) and failed miserably - did not stick to the cover of my Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5224 laptop at all. I am ready to apply method C, drill hole on cover, put bolt and nut. However, I am afraid that it may rip off the top cover around the hinge area because the hinge is very tight. I think this model of Toshiba laptop is very complex and may pose a challenge to access to loosen the hinge. This video gives some hope to access and loosen the hinge before putting bolt and nut. Thanks for your post as well as thanks to the author of this video.

SO some laptops from the bin get a new life and are useful to someone in the end - after sometime, I get used to old type USB replacement on telephones and other blue tooth devices, thanks to all those videos, does not make me an electronician, but somebody that can help in some case ;)

      its not the point of if it was easy to replace. if he didnt charge the customer much and was able to make it work then all is fine. why would you add new parts at your own cost ? you like to give away profit? and to be honest that laptop was not worth even repairing. but he did get it working and usable again. so there is no mistake made here.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool 3 года назад +1

      Maybe a missed something there, but why replacing the second mosfet in a case like this one, where the voltage is not passing the first mosfet? I mean, we are replacing a burned component if the component is faulty, but this is not the case as the gate signal is missing from the first mosfet which is a channel n and is supposed to have 19v on the gate

    • @SiETechNotebookReparatur
      @SiETechNotebookReparatur 3 года назад +4

      @@electronicsrepairschool If the second Mosfet is shorted, CMSRC (ACDRV charge pump source input) will also be shorted to ACP (Input current sense resistor positive input), the BQ-IC will not output an ACDRV signal to both MosFets. Just always check whether the second MosFet is shorted.

    And the care with heat to hot glue. I am using the techniques to a 50 year old electronic. *Baldwin( (fun machine). (1975). which came to my shop bench mostly working as all original. Also very heavy dust *repair as compressed air. clean out rapid.
    An circuit board diagram as very early digital signal path. Unit is working well to tones, voices,

    At a troubleshooting to a likely mosfet fail, my hand slipped and I shorted a tv unit to fail, destroyed. (last week). Was not a customer's but salvaged unit....and a reminder to me to use effective bench and workspace place as component. I

    Almost always the left hinge on HP correct? On this type of job, I skip repair and go straight to "data recovery" mode. I save the files and dispose of the toxic waste for customer. I make some money, customer gets their files and can buy another device. All win. Good trick with the hot glue and loosen the hinge. I give it a try next time. I usually drill through case and send a bolt/washer/nut all the way through case. Ugly yes, but holds. I'm happy you fixed it for them.

Almost the same amount of work/time but doesn't seem that glue will hold the hinge. Maybe customers appreciate the economy version costs but others might want an option to have it done right.

My question is how do you see the same when you simply connect the laptop or phone to a charger? Am I right in my assumption, that your power supply has a USB output, that also shows you this info when you connect a device to it?

    I don't think you need to apologize for such a job, you did everything possible for such a job for that money, it can normally be done better, but it takes parts that cost money and it takes more time, and it costs, in the end a job well done

    I bought a new 1920 X 1080 screen for my 12 year old 16" Acer a year ago on ebay. I payed $19.95 for it with free shipping. It still works great. I got a great price only because there are so few like my Aspire 6920 that are configured for full HD and the seller wanted to get rid of about 50 of them.

    Some people want you to take chicken poop and turn it into chicken soup and make it taste and smell good too. That's what this job is. Somehow you managed once again to work a miracle on a scrapper and made it at least functional. Saved the customer data recovery, and an immediate purchase of a new laptop too.

    Thanks for sharing the reality of working on this Sorin. That kind of job is a "meat & potatoes" work.
    So many jobs are like this or worse, I completely understand why you wouldn't want to spend a single minute more than needed for it.

    I just repaired my own lenovo g580 hinges, the hinges were broken off on the laptop side, the keyboard bezel was forced open when i closed the laptop, i came up with the idea of melting 2 holes through the bottom case of the laptop, using 2 long screws on each hinge, i placed a small metal plate on the bottom of the laptop where the screws go through, inside the laptop, i bolted the screen down on those 2 long screws, and i have to say, its super sturdy now, the hinges don't crack or move anymore, i mean they move in the normal, expected way, and ok, i have now 4 screw heads and 2 small metal plates on the bottom of the laptop sticking out, i painted those black so they would blend in more, but its the underside of the laptop, so i don't care at all. The model i have is known for its weak hinges, and i think that my solution, is the best way to fix those hinges for good. If it happens on the screen side, i know what to do next ;)

    most people don't understand, that hinges with integrated stopper (that have a proper amount of conterpressure), like laptop hinges HAVE TO BE MOVED SLOWLY.... seeing so many moving the screens so fast, that hinges cannot live long... but some laptops have also a poor quality....so the chance to break the hinges are double...

    A little while ago i was watching one of your clever videos when you said you had created a fault on a Lenovo ideapad 100s feeding it with too high voltage. I have done the same. I looked to see if you produced a repair video but couldn't find one, so did you or should i bin the computer given its age and limited capacity.

    Great video....I have a question 🤔 when you did spin the mosfet around..u short the gate pin with 19v which means that u sent a 19v to power ic responsible for switching the mosfet and this could be the reason for not charging? Is that correct?

    A very good economic repair. Some would not attempt but if an understanding is reached with the customer then no problems. And this is one job that another repair shop is not going to get now. ALL jobs pay the bills 👍
