The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Melvin was a great dancer he was gettin it in lol
0:10 o Eddie's voice is so special..wow
Paul schooling everyone with the dancing yet again
@2:13 Melvin took this one sorry Paul
@@GarwinWayne they were always the 2 best dancers.
Paul did dance better it was until Paul's health declined mel started to out dance him. Paul was clearly the best dancer tho
The first lady in yellow with Eddie looked like she was going to faint at about :20. All these ladies were professional dancers, must have been a thrill doing this segment.
Haha yes I thought the same thing.
@@SR77736 (Fainting) Can't blame her. Imagine when she got home and everyone is telling her: "Girl, EDDIE was singing ONLY to YOU!!!" What a great thrill for any young lady on national TV.
I THOUGHT they had to be professional dancers. Although we all got soul, you can't just pull some sisters off the street who can do those moves.
@@barrys4922 yep and the same body type, did you notice that.
You are so right Eddie was making love just looking at and singing to pretty lady in yellow.😂🤣😂🤣😂
Thats Sanaa Lathan's mom Otis singing to, daughter is her twin. BEAUTIFUL!
Melvin was getting his groove on
Also, like how they threw in a little Jackson 5 "I Want You Back" remix at 01:56
I’m glad someone else caught that as well too
I wonder if Jackson 5 and Temptations crossed paths at this time
I think they did onstage in 1972
Otis part was epic🔥 so smooth and intimate🙂
Anyone notice Paul's facial expression at 1:51 when the dancer drops to the floor 😂 He's like "wtf you doin?!" 😂
Lmao i didn't until you pointed it out but now that you mention it
His eyes said 👀 & they cut that camera angle quickly lol
@@SR77736 It's all I watch now haha
@@purplepuffs2095 They really did 😂😂😂
Naw it probably was the sickle cell pain Paul was going through at that time.
Thats the first time I heard Otis Williams sing a solo piece. He has a very good voice
Man ain't nobody coming to see no Otis....
Otis can really sing, but when you got rest of these guys, what you going to do. They only wrote songs for David and Eddie
@@botrrun9399 And later Dennis
Otis sings the song- Don't send me away!!
He founded the Temptations. He is also the only living Temptation. He must have some talent.
IM SITTING HERE SCREAMING AT MY COMP SCREEN!!! THESE MEN KEEP ME MESMERIZED!!!! I COULDNT TAKE MY EYES OFF THE SCREEN!!! TOP GENTLEMEN!!!! LOOK AT THE GODDESSES!!! ELEGANT AND BREATHTAKINGLY GORGEOUS!!! THE DANCE MOVES, THE CHEMISTRY!!!!! WHY OH WHY COULDNT OUR COMMUNITY STAY THIS WAY!?!?!!
GOATS!
Amazing how the Temptations can take someone else's song and make it their own. Outstanding!
Makes me wish they had recorded it
Oh my god yessssss! This would been a huge hit for the temptations! This gives me Broadway vibes. Hands down one of the most talented acts Motown has ever had. And the great male vocal groups of all times. On period!
For note: this song was written in the Motown camp for one of it's artist before being covered by Blood, Sweat &Tears.
Eddie and the lovely girl in yellow really feeling this from outset as they set the stage for the entire masterful performance.
No song is wrong for the Temptations! With all lead singers in their range they deliver so melodiously. Loved this!
I will always remember Melvin Franklin
I couldn’t with Paul’s showmanship and Eddie‘s vocals at the 2:43 mark 🔥🔥🔥
What can you say, these guys can sing anything
The Temptations Looked Sooooooo Damn Good And Cool In This Video
Fun Fact: That is Sanaa Lathan’s mother at 0:50 in the peach
😮WOW I wish I could have been Eddies partner dancing. I love him soooo hes a beautiful man in every sense of the word .❤❤❤❤❤Ump ump ump RIP Beautiful Eddie Kendricks RIP David Melvin,Paul, Dennis❤❤❤❤
Melvin at 2:14 always makes me smile. He was dancing like he would at the disco. You can tell by that clap he gave.
Followed by the celebratory “Ho!” When the boogie started
I know. I never knew Melvin had such great moves. I just thought he had a great bass.
Funny how he always wound up with the sexiest girls (in yellow) like he did with Mary and Cindy on Tempts/Supremes medley a couple years earlier, 100% player.
I love this, where every Temp got a chance to shine and the dancing and dancers all outstanding!!♥️😊
The boys with the golden voice
The musical production like in this video is the type of production you would find in a Broadway musical, which proves The Temptations could have been huge Broadway stars. Their talent was endless.
That was plein to see in their "GIT on Broadway" TV special with the Supremes..😉
I believe they would have had even greater opportunities if Berry focused a little more on them (and other Motown greats) and less on Diana Ross. They were abundantly talented.
@@chaumari Huh? Motown was LASER FOCUSED on the Temptations. Berry managed their live shows all over the world. Same with the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5 . . . .
@@chaumari huh, the temptations was the premier group of Motown until the Jackson 5
@@torianmoore1234 The Supremes were the group that received the most attention and backing and Diana was the focus due their crossover appeal and his infatuation with Diana. That has been confirmed by everyone at Motown, including Gordy and members of The Temptations. The Temptations were "premier" just not at the level of Diana Ross and the Supremes.
They do a great job with this song, originally written by Motown singer/songwriter Brenda Holloway.
Yep Tony, that's right; Brenda was one of the composers, along with Berry Gordy, Patrice Holloway, and the great Frank Wilson. I love Brenda's original version too (and of course, Blood, Sweat, and Tears' amazing cover version too).
@@markwilliams352 If you can check out Australian Stars of the 1960's. A Lady did her version
Soulful, classy, talented, true artists they make it look like so much fun. The hard work and attention to detail make it look effortless
Paul doing the Ali Shuffle at conclusion like he done on “Don’t Look Back” performance, his subtle dance moves are something beyond even a Cholly Atkins class, the perfect poised performer.
I watch this everyday! It makes me feel good 💘💕❤
The temptations forever
Now that's entertainment.🕺💃
Eddie Kendricks, beautiful falsetto
Yes! And it doesn't matter whether he's singing lead or background harmonics, that angelic voice rings through with crystal clarity.
Now this is what I call dancing & entertainment at it's utmost! For me to say that this was a 5 star performance is an understatement, so I'm going for a 10 star performance!
I ❤️Motown 🎶🎶🎶
These Were Fine Sharp Looking Brothers Right Here
Takes my breath away to see and hear these tunes today!
Eddie’s smile and his presence takes my breathe away. WOW WOW still feels like it did 50 years ago. 💋💋💋🌹🌹😘
Love me some Eddie. so smooth
Thought it was just me lol
Lol that’s why the ladies just fell out over him back then!!
All these women were drop dead gorgeous
100% CORRECT.........WOW :)
This was fantastic!!
Even tho " Ain't Nobody Comin to See You Otis". I have to admit, his singin on his part was 💯.
I gotta ask again how tempting can this be temptations were just fantastic dancing machines
I’m coming here from TikTok, this performance was amazing and Sanaa Lathan’s mom was and is absolutely stunning!
I thought that was her!!! 😃 I said she looks like somebody I have seen before!!! 🩷
Which one is her mom
@@larrylollis5875 she’s the one who Otis is singing to. She’s wearing the peach dress.
Thank you !!! I was at this show when I was 12 years old! My Grandpa took us back stage and met Mr. Sullivan! Grandpa Bob Effros knew Ed Sullivan going back to Old Time Radio and Big Band Jazz. 🎺❤️🎺
Lucky you.
Saw this on Ed Sullivan 50-some years ago and again recently on Ed Sullivan on MeTv. Been watching this video daily ever since.
Ed was a mensch because he spotlighted a lot of brothers and sisters and they all performed with dignity.
Classic Temps.
I love this performance by the Temptations!
To tell you the truth, I grew up listening to that music, along with my parents. I guess I have an old soul
@soisettawoodard1634 I do believe you do i believe you are an oldsoul. I love oldies music because there so much better then today's crappy music today's music is all autotune I hate it I hate autotune 100% I love the raw voice. If a singer loves singing and if that's there talent then sing don't use autotune If you do you have no talent whatsoever relying on a machine to help you that's not right real music and singers is pure talent without relying on anything. I barely hear any songs from today it's extremely extremely rare for me to hear a song from a number chart from 1 to 100 it's a 2 it's so rare that I listen to modern music I prefer oldies my teachers in school always gets suprise like they say holy cow 🐄 Adrian I'm surprised you know these singers it's because for people from today's generation and newer they are born in today's generation and newer so mostly everyone doesn't no any classic music they will always say what the heck is that. Believe me I know from elementary to middle and high-school barely any students know any classic music because several of the reasons is there so focused on today's things it's extremely garbage.
I love this never seen it before. Brings all my dreams of performing back
Loved the Ed Sullivan show, and when women dressed up not took everything off . The temptations well what can I say, thank you for sharing your extreme gifts with the rest of us mortals.
The Temptations are smooth as silk and the woman in orange is a fox.
She’s the mother of Sanaa Latham, don’t you see the resemblance.
@@carolsingleton1807 WOW!!! Amazing! Now you can . . . (straighten your eyes, and just 'shake your head').
When you go back in time make sure you select your own spot. Don't be anyone else. Just don't pick Eddie 😂
Love finding videos not previously seen especially when it’s the tempts. Watch it over and over. Love them forever. ❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹
OMG I CANT STOP WATCHING THIS!!💜💜💜
Absolutely the BEST cover of this song, EVER... hands down. Why wasn't this released as a single or on an album? Appears they just performed it this one time on the show?
Classic music at it's best by a legendary group!!
ALL THIS BLACKNESS RIGHT HERE!!😍😍 SO BEAUTIFUL!!
Eddie Kendricks killed this song!!
Paul Williams was killing the dance moves go head tempting temptations dancing with all those women go head tempts
Rip to all the temptations who are no longer with us, we still miss you guys
Otis still living
I knew that was Sanaa Lathan's mother with Otis .. she looks JUST li😢ke her
Yall gotta post more unseen clips of the temps. I know its more
oh wow, fantastic!
The bass line beginning @ 0:49 - 1:01 sounds much like James Jamerson. Though it's not him, the bass player surely carried the Jamerson sound on that part. Jamerson was one of the best bass players with a unique sound that placed its stamp on many many hits.
Jackson 5 melody where he laid it down tight for sure.
I was lucky to grown up when there was great entertainment on TV. Thanks to shows like Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin and others, we got to see the best and todays, for the most part, do not even come close.
This could be the reason why the Jackson 5 came out with dancing machine a few years later these guys gave dancing a whole new meaning
Awesome performance! Love this live version. The bootleg upload of this video that was on YT for years had better audio..... The song was co-written by Motown label mate Brenda Holloway. It was released as her final single with the label.
I was thinking this doesn’t sound the same as the one before as well.
The Temptations in order of appearance:

@jaysinger9941 who replaced the Melvin do you know?
The reason why I'm watching this again because Paul Williams Sr really kept up on the dance moves same with blue put the temptations in a disco tech it would be a rap that whole disco tech revolve around the temptations
Otis got that girl he was singing to 😆
Guys, You are watching the best of the best.
So, just another instance of those sixties-and-seventies-sexy-singers just ... just ... just ... bringing the entire world into their beauty-and-strength-and-intellect of man-singers in a man-group. SUCH BEAUTIFUL GENTLEMEN UNTO THIS VERY DAY IN 2021 ... AND WAY BEYOND IT.
Otis has such a sultry and romantic voice. Why didn't he sing lead more often?
Those ladies look stunning, I guess they r all grannies now.
Sing it otis
The dancer paired with Otis also very lovely, she favors Gladys Knight.
When I saw the dancer that wore the peach outfit, I said she looks like someone I have seen before. Come to find out, that’s Sanaa Lathan’s mother. WOW!!! They look A LOT alike!! I really enjoyed this performance!!
Love the Temptations!
0:50 Otis part did it for me✅
@joshy08_31 I know right they look so gorgeous together. it's like a photography it looks so beautiful and cute. I know there not couples or married but they both had a smile on there faces. It looks so nice and beautiful and cute and I also like how gentle and he did it in a caress type of way when otis holds her hands.
Beautiful sisters❤️
I’ve been watching old temp videos for weeks and this the first time I heard Otis sing for real (aside from his one line in cloud 9). I love the songs where they all are featured a bit
Ottis also sang one line in Can't get Next to you and in Runaway Child.
After watching this I have to go find my DVD of this and the rest of the best of the Temptations
@mozamiller1836 can you please please please tell me the name of dvd and where you bought please I would love to watch it. So I can buy it and watch this show especially watching these guys.

I don't know how those girls with them just didn't melt, I would have. Back when music and singers were fantastic!
Me too!
Especially the one with Paul's verse. The way he gently guides her... I'd melt on the spot!
Sing it now Eddie kendrinks

Excellent video with the Temptations singing and dancing. One of female dancers is the mother of actress Sanaa Latham. Her name is Eleanor McCoy who was a dancer.
wow no wonder, i could see the face
She is wearing peach and her daughter resembles her so much. Beautiful women❤️
Wow I was thinking Sanaa Latham resembles her.

U can tell The Jackson 5 studied their performances.
Joe told them to watch the temptations in the Jacksons movie, lol
Amazing
Before the hit Blood, Sweat, & Tears!!!!!
Actually, Blood Sweat & Tears had a hit with this song in 1969. The Tempts were after. Motown label mate Brenda Holloway (who co-wrote the song) actually first released it in 67. Other Motown acts such as Edwin Starr and Blinky on their 1969 duet album Just We Two, Chris Clark on her 1969 album CC Rides Again, had versions out before the Tempts released theirs in 1970.
