No he just put his name on the record after he with a producer speeded up the tempo that Brenda and her sister had wrote and done it in. This if course gave him royalty rights with Brenda having ti fight in court to receive after became a hit years later with a rock group.

@@tracythomas4727 yeah I was thinking the other day when MTV came along it introduced us to the rest of America's music because soul, r&b, disco, electro had always found its way over here
I'll be honest we look at America as a bit of a crazy place because we have held black America to our bosoms, it's made us laugh, it's made us cry, it's made us happy, it's made us sad, it's made us sing, it's made us dance
When Luther Vandross sang 'You must have known that I had feelings deep enough to swim in' you can't fail to bowl us over with that, I mean what a lyric
The creativity of black America is on another level
I like watching soul Train videos these days the dancing is better than any "national" dance, it's pure happiness incarnate.
So how can you hear those lyrics hear the warmth, hear the depth, hear the soul, hear the love, hear the joy, hear the happiness, hear the passion, hear the pain and see the creativity, the invention and the happiness and still hate black Americans. It doesn't make any sense.

    • @pedward323
      @pedward323 9 месяцев назад

@@ronwilliams717The list is long of other women, other women in groups Diana had issues with, jealousy over and Gordy her man taking her side after while in the road with them she called him complaining. Berry of course first seeing Brenda in person wanted her and she told him either she be a singer or his girlfriend but she could not be both. Later on she Duck Clark said was his favorite artist and he would have her on his Bandstand often and wanted her in his tour . Berry said on one condition he would allow this if he put The Supreme’s in that tour also. Here Brenda the outsider with a great manager arranging things like this for her in the west coast only to have the Supremes who had the machine and Boss of it who groomed and gave them hits of course being a success on this tour then her who was sabotaged and more.
He would repeat this behavior many times to other solo female artist and female group artist at Motown. In Glady’s Knight and The Pips, case they were doing so great on a tour ,getting the most loud applauses Ross called him and like a brat was upset over this. She was called to the Bosses office reprimanded for doing what she and her group does as they always have over a jealousy.and he kicked them off that tour of black colleges. We all know what Ross did to even her group mates even calling Berry on them and every woman at Motown she had done something like this too or worse ,so yes they all wanted to whip her skinny behind after having her sabotage their careers and more by having this power over the boyfriend who was the founder and boss at Motown.
Knight said years later she confronted Berry over how they were treated, what Diana was doing ,in he simply said he was in love with her.then. But yes he created Motown ,made many successful, made music their which will always live in along with the artist who song them. But it makes me wonder how many more like Brenda he let then girlfriend ruin their careers by being mush in her hands ,over dumb mess like jealousy, envy ,entitlement to the point of money ,success of the label even more .

I have to post this as it is nagging at me...BTW thank you to the poster for this...I "found" Brenda tonight and have enjoyably been checking her performances and interviews.. what a gal!!my comment... There seemed to be a lot of "choreography " that was given to her to do... and though some was awkward the most of it was well done... so...what was the evolution of "dance" like that during a performance..I am not talking about the Doo Wop days or the Motown repeat steps ie Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops etc This was different , it had flow, a storyAnd that developed into full on performance-inclusive dance routines ( Thriller, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Weapon of Choice, etc )... She participated as one of the pioneers !!!And did a great job of it IMHO !

WoW! I thought that dance was started in the mid 1990s at HBCU campuses. Dam! "If Only My People Would Turn From Backsliding and Their Wicked Ways I Would Heal Their Land and Restore Them"

Old is always the original and comes back around decades later with younger generations thinking it is new and they invented it. From dance ,fashion, musical lyrics, cords, voices sampled by them the new mostly Rappers stole ,and I say stole because they never give credit to those older generations of artist .

Her and Kim Weston weren't played on top 40 radio in NYC so I never knew that their songs sung by Blood Sweat and Tears and The Doobie Bros, were covers, also The Exiters did the original version of Manfred Mann's Do Wa Diddy Diddy. Thank God for internet.

Brenda and her sister wrote this song and Brenda wrote it about a ex boyfriend. She was singing the hook and her sister came home and they both added more lyrics to it.

It's ashame she's so underrated this should have been a big hit under name. Off topic: I would love to hear Vivian Green cover this and they favor too

It reached 39 on the charts but became even bigger when that rock group a few years covered remade it . Again by making a few changes in tempo of the song Gordy was able to put his name in it even though she wrote it with her sister the lyrics and tempo she wanted it in. When it became a bigger hit with his name on it leaving her and her sister off of it,she was able to sue him in court and won, still gets royalties for it every year.

I think again Gordy let his woman Diana Ross again block another great female singer at Motown. It did not matter rather they were in a girls group or was solo this happened .In a late interview Brenda who was Duck Clark’s favorite singer wanted her in his tour . Gordy told Dick unless he allowed The Supremes on the tour Brenda would nit be allowed on his tour. Of course Clark gave jn and them having bigger hits at the time favored by Motown she was overshadowed. Gordy did this too many times with female artist like Brenda who had all it took to be great female artist at his label . Here he also had a writer who at her young age wrote this song with her sister ,do this too was a list .

    I lost at love before
Gave up and closed the door
But you said try just once more
I chose you for the one
Now I'm having so much fun
    You treated me so kind,
I'm about to lose my mind
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
    The others were untrue,
But when it came to you
I'd spend my whole life with you
'Cause you came and you took control
    You touched my very soul
    You always showed me that
Loving you was where it's at
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
I love you so much, it seems
That you're even in my dreams I can hear
Baby, I hear you calling me
I'm so in love with you
All I ever want to do is
    Thank you, baby
    Thank you, baby
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
You made me so very happy
You made me so, so very happy baby
    I'm so glad you
    Came into my life
Mmmm, I want to thank you, girl
    Every day of my life
    I wanna thank you
You made me so very happy
Oh, I wanna spend my life thanking you
(Thank you baby, thank you baby)
Wonderful song written by Brenda Holloway - she sings it the best!
