This great song wasn't done by Blood,Sweat and Tears first...no...it was done first by co-writer and singer Brenda Holloway (her late sister Patrice also wrote the song). And...to me...HERS is the BETTER version.
The gorgeous Brenda Holloway ! She should have been 100 times bigger than she was. A great voice, great song.
my father played first woodwinds on this and contracted the horns preston love thats him the alto flute part..he used to tell me bout this session
nathanaelb1957 Nice Legacy your father did you proud
I'm In Motown Heaven! RUclips Has Made Me so Very Happy With These Old School Jams!
On this day in 1967 {September 16th} Brenda Holloway performed "You've Made Me So Very Happy" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand...
One week earlier on September 9th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #39 and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #40 on Billboard's R&B chart...
Two years later in 1969 it was covered by Blood, Sweat, & Tears; their version peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} on the Top 100...
R.I.P. Mr. Clark...
Brenda Holloway so beautiful!!!!!
This style of music take with fund memories and sad ones too now 61yrs old . Thank you 🕊️✨✨
Thank You Brenda for this emotive gem.
What an amazing voice. I love how she sings this song it heavenly and more emotional than the other versions. Thanks for posting.
The extended version and the videos of Miss Holloway are "superhot." I love it. This tune written by Miss Holloway and her sister Patrice, was a welcoming song for me; the moment when I came home from military active duty in September, 1967. It was a favorite then; and is still a favorite today. Thanks for posting this beautiful song.
Superb!!!!!!! too bad the radio does not play this, children should know about this.
Agree!
show do
Great song... always love it, no matter who sings it. Glad to find the original singer. Alton Ellis had a great hit with it in Jamaica back in the day. For those who like Old-School Reggae, look it up !
Superbe Brenda Holloway , superbe titre , la classe ! MOTOWN SAVE THE WORLD !
Beautiful song I luv it Beautiful QUEEN
I be having my little Karaoke thing going with the lyricless beginning. Then l walk off with the lovely Brenda starting with the lyrics. I cannot carry a tune in a bucket and Brenda is peerless here.
So much talent, and astounding beauty that captures your emotion with a soft touch. Brenda surely expresses from her heart with a fresh voice, full of joy.
Like most of you, I always thought BS&T were the first ones who did this song. I accidently found out that Brenda Holloway wrote this song and did it first, while looking at videos by Carol Kaye, who was a studio musician for Motown, and who was the bass player on this song. The bass line was something Carol came up with to add punch to the song. Great song and Brenda created and wrote a timeless hit.
Chris Clark did a fine cover in 1969
This song was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein back in the fifties. I remember singing it in music class when I was in the fifth grade at the age of eleven.
Check out the strings, this wowza recording.
The drummer is also laying some kinda rave footprint; majestic, strong.
BrendaH singing right in the pocket to the drummer.
@@mshipley6727 "You've Made Me So Very Happy" is a song written by Brenda Holloway, Patrice Holloway, Frank Wilson and Berry Gordy, and was released first as a single in 1967 by Brenda Holloway on the Tamla label. The song was later a huge hit for jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1969, and became a Gold record. No more was written i Google Rodgers and Hammerstein correct your facts or list who gave you that information. But I searched. Thx..
@jazzmaan707 yo siempre pensé que la original era Kiki Di 😂🎉 !!
I love Blood Sweat and Tears version too, but this is Beautiful!!!!
Dripping with CLASS !!!! #PRICELESS🔥🔥🔥🔥
Her vibrato shimmering , shiny and glossy, and, ultra feminine.
So glamorous.
Her notes rise upwards; she feathers it so softly... a vocal riff so tangible, sensual.
you study this company And the funk brothers for over ten years and everyday you find something that knocks your socks off. this is incredible stuff.
This most powerful original version by this stunning woman. I don’t study liners but I think I hear legendary Andantes back there. flawless is the only word that comes immediately to mind.
My era of music, and I'm EMBARRASSED to say I completely overlooked this amazingly beautiful and amazingly talented songstress. I LOVED "Walk on by" by her, but I completely missed the boat on all her other songs, particularly "When I'm Gone." I LOVE THAT SONG! Anyway the 60's and 70s R&B singers and groups will NEVER be topped. They made me--and still make me--SO VERY HAPPY.
Brenda broke my heart. I still love her!
Nov.28th: Happy birthday Record executive-Songwriter-Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr...co-writer of this song; Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame Pioneer Award, National Medal of Arts. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, mosogotam. Blessings
Thanks, Jerry and you are very welcome!!
Loved all of Brenda Holloway's songs.
I would move a Planet for her.

Wow very pretty music!!!! and harmonizing

My God she was so beautiful...
She has a bit of Dusty Springfield 'breathiness' in her voice.
I like that. Very nice recording. Gotta love The Funk Brothers.
Think Brenda was a big influence on Dusty. Yes, she has a very soft, soulful, and breathy quality. Like MS. Springfield.
You mean Brenda had a big influence on Dusty. Get your facts straight.
@@rhondabenin1571 correction Dusty Springfield sounds like her she was before Dusty.
Great post, loved the song when it came out, and what a babe she looked so hot back in the day. She didn't get enough exposure by Motown, great voice, beautiful and really good songs too bad.

Mosogotam the intro half is just totally awesome.
& You brought out the bass when BrendaH starts her 1st vocal line.
With Brenda & her sister Patrice Holloway! I was so done in when I heard Mr. Wilson passed. I was gonna ask him to produce a track for me as he did with The Supremes JMC (Jean, Mary & Cindy)!

copyright, shmopywrite infringement .. the blazes with that .. don't ever remove this from youtube !! .. i had no idea that brenda did this, and you did your magic to bring it up even higher .. thank you for your magnificent sound engineering :)
❤❤❤🎶🕺
Let's do this...
Lovely version, and by the writer so more likely to represent the original emphasis...cool hopefully creative producers didn't override too much of her intent.I grew up on BS&T and loved their version (thought to be theirs) , but now I know the facts and listened to B's beautiful breathy version...wow... nicely done she did "breathy", David did "strong, clear, emotional" .... both meriting big Kudos...I also like ( not sure to who's credit) the lengthy instrumental intro... reminds me of the Big Band stuff I searched out but which seemed to end with Old Blue Eyes albums ).. that was an interesting characteristic of this extended version... enjoyable.just realized...modern rock reintroduced the instr. intro ie Stairway :)
Terry...Thanks. I very much appreciate your extended critique of Brenda's and her late sister's (Patrice Holloway) song!
OMG what a fox.
The drummers workings Awesome
@sjamotown ...thank you so very much!
🤗
This song was written by Frank Wilson...RIP died (9/27/2012)
No,Brenda had just broke up with her boyfriend and started singing to title to this song snd more . Her sister Patrice came in and she singed it to her, asked what she thought of it. Patrice started adding the rest of the lyrics and the called their then friend who at the time wrote also ,was a great median ,the great Barry White. He told them it was a hit and once they took it to Motown Frank and Barry added this and that to it mostly the instrumental parts which Brenda did not like as she years before BS&T recorded it and it became a hit she kept trying to get Berry to use the same range and tempo they recorded it in . So this was more about two then very young women, girls having others put their names on a song they wrote and getting paid off of it mostly Barry Gordy. Brenda when BS&T made it a hit had to sue Motown and Barry to get royalties for this song and Won unlike so many artist who he did this too over hit records they made ,wrote, recorded. Brenda herself in a interview gave her account of this but her ,her sister should have been the names first in this song then Frank for being the producer on this record and more.
Wow I just learned that Blood sweat & tears who for years made this song stand out and command attention but they aren't the original artist. I just learned that Brenda Holloway an artist from the Motown label is the original artist and her version is pretty soft core compared to the Blood Sweat & tears version. Felix Hernandez show on WBGO 88.3 wow the things you learn from radio.
They got down on the beat
Que buenos remasterizados
one of the greatest voices ever up there with Witney Houston OMG.
I always thought she was the original for that song came out in 1966 or 67
I adore super BBBBADD
Would it be possible for you to make a version without any vocals? I would love to do a cover, and I would credit you ofcourse!
2:00 gives me a black Barbra Streisand
Is there a way that you can upload a version of Brenda Holloway's "Hurt A Little Everyday" instrumental version with the Andantes? I absolutely love that song
nope...don't have that one.
Maravilha
DC Pierson brought me here :)
