    Hi Patrick 👋
    Good to be back on the job site with you!
    Gee, I was held spell bound on the sanding! 😴
    But all in all I had a good time helping out as much as can. The results of the staining made all of the endless sanding really pay off… looks great!!
    Thanks for the video of that Moose 👍

    Houston here. I love how the window and door trim look. The logs you cut for this worked out very nicely. The oil really brings out the colors, too. I must say, the sanding was very calming, and "RUclips" took that away from us... lol ... I suppose the fire is pretty calming too, I guess that'll have to do since we don't want you getting fussed at.

    Boy do I feel silly. I kept waiting for your moose merch commercial and then at the end I realized.....nice touch. The window trim add a lot to the beauty of the interior. Thanks for the tip on how to re-purpose warped boards. Seems like common sense, but I would not have thought to recut the rough side. I'm waiting with bated breath for the outdoor kitchen build, but you decide which project we do next. I'll be there with my tools and surprise lunch waiting to help in any way I can all while removing this weeks splinters from my hands. Tell Karen that we don't mind sharing the owner ship with her.
    A couple of years ago I built a gazebo in my son's yard. I precut and painted all the lumber. I also precut the metal for the roof. It is amazing how fast the assembly goes when you take the initial time for the preparation. See ya next week.

    Patrick, 2 things…
    1. The sanding - think Doobie Bros (What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits) and make a vise your habit. That freehand work, watching the boards wobble all over the place, would be so much easier using a heavy vise to stabilise the timber.
    2. One of my best ever investments was a Festool track saw. No need for the string line and a hand-guided cut. Dead straight cuts every time!
    I like the colour variety on those boards. Comes up really well with my favourite oil. 😊

    • @LifeontheMoose
      @LifeontheMoose  7 месяцев назад

      Both good ideas! I considered the clamps, but decided for 70 ish pieces of wood, I would spend too much time dealing with clamping.
      That oil is perhaps my favorite, too!

    As good as your cutting and sanding skills are, and don’t get me wrong, you are skillful, the best part of this video, for me, was the outdoor nature and wildlife videography. Well done Patrick! You break up the labor with these beautiful interludes…to remind us why we can’t help but come back. We all need some land up in the mountains, with a ridge or two to build a getaway cabin on. Or a guest house, for the inevitable visitors. Do those with certain skillsets get preferential dates? Did I mention that both of my grandfathers were carpenters and cabinet makers?

    That is some beautiful trim work, Patrick! The colors in that wood are gorgeous. You'll have a mighty-fine spur cabin quite soon. That outdoor kitchen build is going to be extremely interesting as well - can't wait to see that. I've been wondering about power. You've wired the cabin for lights, however either I've missed any work on solar panels, or you haven't gotten to doing that yet. I'm doubtful that you're going to trench a power line all the way to the cabin, so solar has to be in your future somewhere. Please continue posting, 'cause I gotta keep watching!

    After watching this episode was thinking about what I like and dislike but couldn't find anything I didn`t like in fact I have enjoyed every episode since finding your channel . I do however have a couple of suggestions that would make life a whole lot easier. First a set of folding sawhorses a splitter on the table saw (to prevent kick back). You can attach a straight edge to a board to run along the fence and that will transfer a good edge to your work. Not trying to be the safety police just hate for a friend to be injured . Oh yeah around here we call the blue pine denim pine .
