Do you ever get pictures of tables or projects that people make from your slabs? It would be awesome to see what beautiful pieces people build from your slabs. To see from beginning to end of the tree.
Lindsay, good luck in the upcoming election. I heard your 'stump speech' and you would definitely be a great community leader! You are the kind of public servant every jurisdiction needs. You'd have my vote, but I'm in PA!
I'd be interested to hear you explain more about how the character of the figure forms. Bark inclusion is some what self explanatory but the what causes curl's, spalting, compression etc as the tree grows Maybe in an upcoming return of an Ask Matt video?
Put the baby pine in the garage over winter? It's gonna be a bad one, like 22-23 was, (it was super cold and we had 80" of snow that year). Always wanna drive down (from Blaine) and get a cookie to make a cutting board... Someday! I guess I shoulda done that 3 yrs ago when you were a lot closer?! Thx and Good Luck Laura!
Even the tree said I will survive and gave new life to a baby tree hope it survives and you show it later on how it is doing. That is one beautiful log make some beautiful tables ect.
0:55 ya we hear your judgement Mr Cremona. I’ll have you know the tree has been putting in a lot of time in the gym and all the weight loss hasn’t just been water weight. It’s gained muscle too. We thought you’d notice. 😢
Matt, thanks for bringing us along for the ride and sharing this with us. Question: how do you decide what thickness to cut each slab? Is there a magic number that allows for less warping/checking vs drying time?
when you said it weighed 11000 lbs, I was really impressed that your forklift, since it doesn't have outriggers it must be an 8- or a 6000lb lift, could lift it. Your scale is probably a lot closer to being right.
First, this comment has nothing to do with woodworking or sawing logs:)! This morning I was pre-staging our basement so the grand-kids can come over later and decorate it as a Halloween haunted house. I was running string across the joists so they can simply hang their ghosts, witches, etc. I also selected some Halloween music. then I came back to watching this video. And it struck me that some of the sounds your saw makes cutting logs was similar to the haunted Halloween sounds I had been listening, Then too some of the engine noises of your heavy equipment sounded haunting, and bits and pieces of your leaf blower's sound. So decided to say that you and your editing team may be able to make a Halloween video with all those amazing sounds. Then again, it might just sound like a good idea to me since my brain and ears are so focused on creating a haunted house for the grand-kids. Now back to your regularly scheduled comments:)!
Nice , but it burns me when people paint over it because they want it even. btw; the likes went to 999 and I clicked it to go to 1k. It was satisfying for some reason.
Pretty impressive! That thing is a MONSTER! Lol Would there be any disadvantage to going right to a kiln with those slabs rather than air drying for 2 years?
What is the max rated lifting capacity of your telehandler? Edit: Never mind, I just spotted the capacity sticker in one of the shots. 9000 lbs at home position. 1800 at full extension. Do you frequently overload the telehandler?
I would guess the crane scale was off just based on your tellahandler is rated for 9k it was probably closer to that weight when you picked it out of the truck.
I feel like I’d get a predator 212 and hook it to the hand crank gearing with a clutch so I could just use a foot pedal like gas to speed up or slow down. Because reasons.
I don't want to speak for him but I would guess that an automatic feed would just increase complexity for minimal benefit; hand cranking it also allows him to feel any changes in resistance, which can tell him a little about what is going on. As for the saw blade, I assume it's a cost/ benefit analysis, I believe you would have to have them custom built for you rather than just buying them off the shelf. Also, you would have to redesign how the blade is supported and driven.
Business scales have specific rules for calibration, including how often they should be calibrated, how to maintain their accuracy, and legal requirements:
Everytime I see these I want to do one of two things 1) move out to the country and build my own sawmill 2) drive to Matt's house and help him..lol
Nice to see people enjoying what they do.
Excellent camera work. Especially around the 30 minute mark. Keep it up.
Awesome log! And it is really cool that you saved the baby pine tree.😊
Matt, you have way too much fun sawing your logs! That much fun can't be legal!! 😂😂😂
Do you ever get pictures of tables or projects that people make from your slabs? It would be awesome to see what beautiful pieces people build from your slabs. To see from beginning to end of the tree.
It was well worth the wait! I am sure in the end it will pay off greatly!
I just got through sawing some logs,I feel refreshed enough to saw some logs again tonight.
The Circle of Life Mart. You are truly a Ward of Nature. Taking that Springly Sprout and Continue the Life of the Tree is Comendabke Matt...
Lindsay, good luck in the upcoming election. I heard your 'stump speech' and you would definitely be a great community leader! You are the kind of public servant every jurisdiction needs. You'd have my vote, but I'm in PA!
This is one of my most favorite videos ever. The art that each log displays. Thank you for sharing 👌 😊❤ Thanks for saving the baby Pine tree!
thanks Matt - for sharing - take care
Lovely to hear you chuckle again young man... keep doing what you're doing! 🥰
Thanks for the video. Always learning from these. Take care.
The Lorax thanks you Mr. Cremona for saving the baby tree.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO
Fantastic Matt. Rare to see maples like that anymore especially here in New England.
I have been following you for a long time. You are so knowledgeable and skilled at what you do. Be safe
Good Morning Cremona Family.
I am glad you saved that seedling tree. I would have done the same thing. I hope you give us updates on it.
It would seem all of these trees are your pets. You even boop them like my dog like on the 2nd slab. 🐶
I think Matt is going to break the board foot calculator. 🤣
The way big logs are valued and their use enhanced is the biggest change.
The mini-tree rescuer!
Enjoy all your videos but really want to see how warping can be corrected.
That log was a beast! Cute little freebie pine tree! Let us know if it makes it, please!
Enjoy watching you!

I too have been waiting years for you to saw this log!!!
Slab 9 looked like the head of a dragon. 🐉

😂😂
Matt, thanks for bringing us along for the ride and sharing this with us.

Those curly buttress pieces would make really pretty acoustic guitar slices
SlabMaster 2: Blade's Revenge
Good to have a custom made saw to handle a 16' log. Will be interesting to see who does what with them.
I can just imagine what beaufiful projects that wood will make in some talented wood workers hands like yours Matt.
Commendable
That first "little" piece at @6:40 -- 100% curl throughout. Hope that one finds a good home!
That first small offcut cries out "I'm a maple electric guitar solid body"......
Great slabs
Enjoy all the videos, but replanting that sapling has topped the list!! Thanks for sharing

Oh, I just saw 9000lb on the side.
Living the dream
I need one of those slabmaster shirts Matt!!
Leaving the slabs outside to dry will the color increase? that is some nice looking wood!
I think I would trust the crane scale more than the driveway scale.
The small pieces make great guitars

Looks like Silver Maple
How is the pine tree doing?
how many years?
Pretty impressive! That thing is a MONSTER! Lol
Would there be any disadvantage to going right to a kiln with those slabs rather than air drying for 2 years?
They’re too thick. You’d end up case hardening them
Nice work. how long do you estimate it will take you to sell all the slabs in this post?
Beautiful log ! I wish you would buy a garden hose😂 if each slab was around, 1000lbs, looks like the crane scale was more accurate than yours?
Any news on the two nice cookies that came off the top? Probably not, but still a great vid about a monumentally important log.
i would be happy with the first pice you took off and you have all the rest lol i jelly
The y don't color shift after they are slabbed?
Very nice
Do the logs "age" better in a big pile like that? I'm sure it would be easier to find the one you want if they were laid out in rows.
Is Lindsay doing your camera work while you do the saw mill?
Brad is
Hi Matt what would a slab of this size cost
What is the max rated lifting capacity of your telehandler?
Edit: Never mind, I just spotted the capacity sticker in one of the shots. 9000 lbs at home position. 1800 at full extension.
Do you frequently overload the telehandler?
Whenever needed
Me: "That's what she said. That's what she said... That's what she said!" 😂
😂
Yeah, I'm a dang child....so what. 😅
I would guess the crane scale was off just based on your tellahandler is rated for 9k it was probably closer to that weight when you picked it out of the truck.
That’s just what it’s rated to lift and that’s up to extension position 1 straight forward
I feel like I’d get a predator 212 and hook it to the hand crank gearing with a clutch so I could just use a foot pedal like gas to speed up or slow down. Because reasons.
Oh man, take the 6” off the fat end and make a cookie style glass top table?
You're gonna need a bigger boat.
To convey the size, lay on it, at one end
What kind of Stihl chainsaw are you using is a 660
461
Why is this mill hand hand crank fed and not automatic? Why can't the saw blade has two sides so that you cut forward and backward?
I don't want to speak for him but I would guess that an automatic feed would just increase complexity for minimal benefit; hand cranking it also allows him to feel any changes in resistance, which can tell him a little about what is going on. As for the saw blade, I assume it's a cost/ benefit analysis, I believe you would have to have them custom built for you rather than just buying them off the shelf. Also, you would have to redesign how the blade is supported and driven.
Bro, why don't you have a garden hose down there?
Will this become furniture wood?
You say you need a bigger bucket all the time just get a hose.
I know you just sawed a slab, but don't you ever get board?
I got a million of em, an none of them are funny.
Matt, I noticed a lot of checking. Did you seal the ends when you got the log?
Yes
Your chick is definitely with you for the money!!! Some of those logs are better looking!!!
Business scales have specific rules for calibration, including how often they should be calibrated, how to maintain their accuracy, and legal requirements:
Maxed out the saw
(We're gonna need a bigger boat)
If those weights you were quoting first are/were accurate you're exceeding the max capacity of that telehandler by a considerable margin
Yeah I’m not too worried about it though. The load chart lists those max capacities with the boom extended to position 1
