It was a lot better in Fallout 1 and 2.
Glad they mostly scrapped it for new Vegas and completely got rid of it in 4. Karma system was basically what the devs thought was bad even though a lot of decisions in fallout are morally gray. Though 1 and 2 did it a lot better. Wouldn’t mind if it was implemented properly.

The thing that fascinates me about this little culture is that once you marry someone you apparently abandon your former family. Maybe that's how they got around the squick of marrying their siblings? They somehow have it firmly in their heads that marrying someone establishes a new family that doesn't have any relation to their old family. That would explain why the siblings have different names, one family had to pick a new name to establish themselves as separate than the other one.
That would explain why the boy said his uncle 'used to be' the brother to his father, and why that lady said the old man 'used to be' her father.

Thats a myth
Actually the reason for it is because a lot of them share surnames because they carry the tradition of passing the name of the mother or father to the son (like “John-Son or Mary-Daughter). Also because a lot of people have common, traditional Icelandic names, the surnames don’t vary much. So that app would be able to see that although you share a surname, you aren’t related, but you can also have different surnames and be related, that’s the issue.

I've got a theory that the residents of Andale killed Tammy Hargrave's husband and James' father. At one point, while confronting the Lone Wanderer and mocking past victims, one of the lines mentioned is "I have a kid in Rivet City" and if we know the Hargrave's story, the husband/father disappeared into the wastes. Neither Tammy or James know what happened, and considering Andale is close to Rivet City, it's possible he was scavenging or hunting when he stumbled into the town and was killed for food.

Here's the issue - The inbred hillbillies of Point Lookout demonstrate all the signs of inbreeding (low intelligence, deformities, etc.), whereas the inbreds of Andale seem normal (except for being overly polite). Why don't the resident of Andale suffer the same inbred effects as do the residents of Pont Lookout?

There isn't much humans left, and every means possible to save what is left, and build other food options - is actually better for everyone to survive easier, your children and your children's children. Killing off others for food... Yeah, it even defeats your practicality arguments long-term. As a habitual practice? This quest scared the hell out of me when i first played this. It’s crazy how fallout can make moments scary and then other moments hilarious like the little lamplight quest with “super dupe dave”

I was watching this with my mom and she brought up a good point as to why Grandpa might have changed his look on the cannibalism, when his wife died, the rest of the family probably ate her. I was like, oh that makes a lot of sense. 😮

You know what's funny about this. I skipped the basement and went to old man harris after talking to his daughter. He reveals the whole story you get out the end, about how he used to be like them, but not anymore. I then went back after finding out they were cannibals and basically killed them all and then after that I went into the basement and shed and saw the bodies. Funny thing is after all that the two kids saw everything and ran off into the wasteland.. They never went to Mr. Harris' place. That was the first time I played this game, second time around I did it the right way. Only I didn't wait till midnight, I just snuck in when no one was looking.

I actually met Junior playing outside by the road outside Andale. It was a really cool and immersive experience, he really felt like an actual child.

Some players may dismiss the boy's disproportionate head as a game glitch, but knowing the place has a lot of inbreeding, I think that best explains it. Also it's weird you can't kill kids in any Bethesda game, yet with the cannibalism perk you can eat a baby in this game.

This reminds me of the scene in Book of Eli when Eli and Solara visit that old couples house and realize they are cannibals. Actually, Book of Eli really does have a good fallout type vibe.
Also, when I first discovered this town I just talked with the folks and went on by as I was on my way to a different quest. Didn't realize these people were savages lol.
I must admit that I've never seen that movie or read the novel! Upon looking it up on wikipedia I definitely get that vibe now!
I went back to Andale after reading a non spoiler article about the top 5 creepiest places in Fallout 3. I think I went to the shed first and when they all came out it ended in blood shed. In this particular play through of Fallout 3 my character is 100% against Slavers psychopaths lol.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas had multiple roles for each voice actor (except primary characters), they all did an amazing job in both games.

It's odd because their was a terrible episode that involved incest with Peter trying to marry his son (it's as bad as it sounds) and it involved him going to a different state to make it legal even though they already live in the only state that allows it.

I lived in the Georgia most of my life and never once seen someone with a Banjo.
I remember stumbling across this spot after I was fully leveled up and in tune with the world. I stepped into Andale, met the family that was well groomed and talking like it was 1950s America and I thought, "So what is your gimmick? How have you remained so happy go lucky in the middle of the wasteland? You a murderer?"
I believe there are also special speech options if you have the cannibal perk when you go there.

Oxhorn is right it's just the joking response but you dont have to pass a speech check due to the cannibal perk. The first time I stumbled upon them I was a true neutral and had the cannibal perk, I made a joke, everyone laughed, then I killed them and ate them for the sake of irony.
