For Michigan Assembly, a sprawling 369-acre plant in Wayne, Mich., which opened in 1957 building station wagons, the start of Ranger production marks a new era.
Beginning in 1966, the plant began a 30-year run of building Bronco, one of the original sport utility vehicles that gained popularity in post-War America. Michigan Assembly gained acclaim as being among the most important and profitable factories in the world when it made Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators from 1996 to 2008.
Early this year, Michigan Assembly ended production of the Focus small car to make way for a massive retooling in preparation for the Ranger launch.
The factory is set to build two high-profile vehicles again in the Ranger and all-new Bronco as American appetite for pickups and SUVs continues to grow.
The revitalization of the Michigan Assembly Plant and renewed production of the Ford Ranger is another exciting chapter in our state’s comeback story,Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said. This is also an opportunity to look toward its promising future with production of the all-new Ford Bronco on the horizon. I thank our partners at Ford for investing in Michigan and contributing to the Motor City’s legacy as the automotive capital of the world.
Ford is transforming its product lineup, building on truck, SUV and commercial vehicle strengths. Ranger is one of the first in an onslaught of all-new vehicles that will see Ford aim to replace more than 75 percent of its current North American portfolio by 2020.
Ranger is designed for today’s midsize truck buyer who blends city living with off-the-grid adventure. The midsize pickup will deliver utility, capability and technology those customers want and need.
Powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine and class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission, Ranger will deliver driver-assist technologies and connectivity features as well as best-in-class payload, gas towing and gas torque.
We have been waiting for this day for a long time, said Michigan Assembly Plant Manager Erik Williams. The Ranger is back home in the U.S., and our employees at Michigan Assembly Plant are thrilled to be able to build it for our customers.

Why the ranger and not something like the Toyota tacoma or hilux?
@@Bryan1483 probably because the Ranger especially the Wildtrak edition in SA looks like such a brute force. But the Hilux is also just as popular. We have a Dakar edition here which looks pretty good too🤔
@@prevost8686 I have to agree with you there the US has always been high on the likes of the Tacoma, Silverado and F250 pick-ups. The Ranger is not a good fit for the US market.

I wouldn't buy a new model until it's been in production for about a year, so by then, most of the bugs have been worked out.

This is because of the Chevrolet Colorado that the Ranger is returning. More competition, the rear looks similar but the front is nicer and cooler.

April 30th 2019 and I still haven’t seen a 2019 Ranger on a public road. You overpriced them Ford,,,, are you listening?
My 2011 Ranger XLT Supercab 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed manual with heavy duty payload and Sirius satellite radio listed under $23,000. I’ll just keep driving my older Rangers until I buy a small SUV for delivering pizza and I’ll keep one of my older Rangers. Hopefully someone at Ford will wake up before they also price the Courier too high too.
My local Ford Dealer has had one sitting on the lot for the past 2 months, the $42K price tag is certainly not helping.
My local Ford Dealer sales manager said that you won’t see any base price no option, or lightly optioned Rangers in the first year unless you order one.
A base Ranger would have $500 a month payments. My 2011, 2009 and 2004 Rangers have served me well. Older two are paid off,,, newest one has two years of payments at $263 a month. I could buy a standard cab base V6 F150 starting around $30,000 and still have a large cab and 8 foot bed.
I have to get me one of them Rangers. I heard it was $100 cheaper than an F350 King Ranch. Now that is a great buy.
Really...? My 2019 F350 King Ranch had a sticker of $84K with shipping...

I'm addicted to these assembly line videos. They are fascinating. But the new Ranger looks boring as hell compared to the Jeep Gladiator pick-up. The Colorado is just basic as well. I drive an old 4x4 Chevy Suburban and a Lincoln. Not being biased. I just predict that the Jeep Gladiator will be more popular than the Ranger and Colorado.

Yep the Ford dealerships purchase everyone. The dealerships order every car and truck on the lot. The dealer pays for the car when the car is delivered to the dealership. So Yes they are sold to the dealer.

@frado frado, Yes we both agree that the F-150 is the top seller, however this Ranger is not. During the entire 1st quarter they only managed to sell a little over 9 thousand units and they have had to start rebates on it already.

It's been out but its just not selling well so far, the high price tag is not helping it.
I know the mustang has this engine, but is it as tough as the non diesel engines in other countries' Ranger models? I am always very skeptical of turbo charged engines
Really nicely styled front end. I hope it's a success. Although this is classed as a mid-sized pick up it far exceeds the cargo area of the Model T and Model A pick ups. It probably even goes beyond the early F-1's in that regard.
I did a couple of summers working here when I was doing my undergraduate degree. Back then it was called Michigan truck and of course was not as automated.

All I'm seeing are quad cabs. So It's true that pickups have turned into family cars with beds on them. What ever happened to just a plain old extra cab with a/c, power windows and a nice stereo?

In 2010 I paid C$13888.00 for a new Ranger 2wd extended cab. Then despair and come back with a price tag of 35,000.00 + to start... Ridiculous... this is the price for F150. Good look Ford

Scary to think that most of those jobs will be history soon. Assembly line was never rocket science but it put bread on the table.

The platform has been around since 2011 overseas, and seems to be holding up very well. The major differences here in the US are the 2.3L EcoBoost and 10R80 Automatic. The EcoBoost line of engines is proving to be a great success and the 10 speed is working out very well too! Not to mention modern Dana axles. I think it is pretty rock solid!
Be cool if this would replace the f-150 in NASCAR.

Bed is steel. Hood, fenders, tailgate are aluminum. Not sure about the shell of the cab

It makes you wonder why there are any people there at all! Robots could do any of the tasks they are doing.
Why they are not made in Thailand? I knew that all Ford Ranger (T6) models are manufactured in the said country.
This plant makes just for trucks sold in Canada; USA and maybe Mexico

You do know that Ford is an international company with factories all over the world? It's less expensive to setup manufacturing in different areas of the world for regional markets, than to ship fully assembled cars world wide for high production number vehicles.

Pay attention to the very Cheap Tires that Ford Now installs on every new truck and SUV..used to be Goodyear..no more.
Ford used to install Firestone 500's on their cars. One of the worst tires ever.
My 2013 F150 came Michelin’s and they have performed really good with the electric rear locking diff and drop the rear air pressure few pounds
They use more then one manufacturer for tires. All depends on which stock comes in first...
Goodyear suck! Bfg and Michelin are some of the best.
Ford uses Bridgestone and Hankook on these trucks. For $175 you can opt for LT Hankooks as well.

Ford really messed u p with the ranger. No 2 doors, or bare bones one under 20K.
More imporant than the construction is the manner of the construction's lack of manpower during many phases of its construction...automation has eliminated many workers from manufacturing jobs...robotics and artificial intelligence will ruthlessly replace humans since they require no pay...health benefits...sick days nor vacation while increasing production....THE BRAVE NEW WORLD

They're wayyyyy over priced!!! For the workers sake I hope someone buys them. For me it's all I can do to afford the monthly payment and ins on my used 2008 F150 much less a brand new Ranger.

Problem is if you live in a place that treats roads for salt. Nothing last that long any more. Frame on my 09 trucks rusted from the inside out... have had rust issues on 2013 cars too. All my neibores talk about road treatments eating every brand now. Even washing the frames once a week does not seam to slow the problems.

@@everettdillie6624 4x4 one ? They start at 33 around me and go up. Most dont have a bedliner, towing package. They are more set up to be on road going to the store trucks.
@@Wrang15 no I wish it was 4×4. It does have the roll and lock tonneau cover witch is around 1600 and it has the tow package. I also got the crew cab

The bumpers are steel, cab is steel, hood, fenders, tailgate aluminum. Large hood with an I4 engine. You are wrong on all points there...
