Even after the release of the studio version, I keep coming back to this. There's something very special about this version of Brooklyn Bop. Love the way Jordan Rose plays the intro groove.
The original bassline by Cato has such a distinctive feel that the album version just couldn't substitute it just as effectively. Also, it should've been kept as an extended jam in the album version imho.
There is this guy at my music school playing tenor sax, guitar, bass, piano and a bit of trumpet and hes in like 7 bands on different instruments obviously. He pretty much constantly practicing one or another instrument haha. Its very very time consuming
That fucking Barbash sax solo in the first tune…he really speaks through his saxophone. Like, the human voice - through speaking, whispering, yelling, singing in this style or that style - the human voice has such a wide range of expression, and it’s often second nature, because we communicate/talk without needing to think. Eddie has a similar range of expression and total ease in his playing. It’s awesome.
It’s great to see the musicians having so much fun together. The joy of excellent performance - smiles all around. And what a band when you can get away with hiding Jordan Rose, Louis Cato, and Negah Santos way in the back!
Smokin? Brandon burned the house down! He then took those ashes, lit them on fire then put them on a rocket then fired it at the sun and the sun exploded.
@@CoryWongMusic "we wrote this tune together during the soundcheck"...thanks for hiding that in! Watching it on Cory On Ice, I was confused why such a banger had eluded me until then. Which, by the way, was remarkably entertaining. Please do mankind a favor and give Sonny a damn feature on the vocals.
Watching a music scene as fervent as the american funk/jazz one from Italy is very uplifting even if we’re thousands of km apart. Keep gracing us with things like this! I’ll continue to support for what I can
Love your band Corey! I found you via Dave Koz. I play harmonica, 46th year and was full-time pro by age 20. Left performing publicly to work in non-profit work (did not need amps for that period and just played on my own) many years. Then had a Swing Dance, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Blues band for 10 years in Oregon. Rhythm section, female vocalist and myself with 1 or 2 horns so we could play swing/jazz arrangements with our little "section". I have adapted a bunch of Dave Koz tunes (like Saxman) over to harmonica and so keep up with what he's doing. I was in Austin 6 years, many gigs & sessions with various bands and now returned to San Diego. Again, really appreciate your style....and a great crew of players too!

How can you write a so nice tune like Brooklyn Bop just during the soundcheck !!!? So amazing !! And i can't stop making the chicken with my head listning Smooth Move...
This guy always opens the bag with something new and surprising. Great support musicians as well. Best all round, feel good band I have heard for many, many years. Guaranteed to lift the spirits.
I was there! What an incredible show. Such a great group of musicians, but the highlight for me might have been Taz's solo on Smooth Move melting my face off. Jaw on the floor.
@@CoryWongMusic That kid is going places! And thanks Cory for the funky jams and getting such an awesome group together. You all looked like you had a blast on stage - I know I was from the audience!
You guys made my day complete before it has barely startet. Rock, sorry, Jazz, sorry, Funk On!!! ;-) Btw - haven´t seen Taz for a while and look who´s here! Standing qiuetly in the back until he gets "unchained"... and the whole band - what a performance!!!
Oh man I hope Brooklyn Bop ends up getting recorded for an album, it really is quite the bop! Amazing musicianship from Cory and everyone involved as always! Also that slap guitar was FONKY
That was Brilliant , first time hearing 10/042021, dig it a lot and scribed , keep bring that sound 68 yr old in FLA @4:00am , what a blast it was a stone gas , loved it
I caught you at Club Soda during the Montreal International Jazz Festival last month and you did not disappoint! It takes a tremendous amount of work to come across as effortlessly as you all do. Thank you for continuing to raise the bar and helping to keep live music a thing.

How is Louis Cato literally a master at every instrument. It’s insane!
i ask this every time i play with him!!
the man is nothing short of a miracle , literally the most spiritually Gospel Bass solo of all time. Sir I Salute you
and, he can SING!! 😍
There is this guy at my music school playing tenor sax, guitar, bass, piano and a bit of trumpet and hes in like 7 bands on different instruments obviously. He pretty much constantly practicing one or another instrument haha. Its very very time consuming
That sax solo starting off at 2:53 like a 30s classic jazz tune and turning into progressive frenzy at 4:45 is gold 😁😁

24:50, what a pocket, what a tone
Can we expect Brooklyn Bop on an upcoming record? That's a jaaaaaam.
My thoughts exactly. Might be my favorite new song
crazy to think that these guys wrote that banger during a soundcheck
They've played it on other gigs which is on RUclips and I'm pretty sure it will be released, but this is the version out there for sure!
its done !
It’s great to see the musicians having so much fun together. The joy of excellent performance - smiles all around. And what a band when you can get away with hiding Jordan Rose, Louis Cato, and Negah Santos way in the back!
Bruh the groove just oozes from Jordans playing. Such a baller.
Brandon's guitar solo starting from 25:00 was smokin!!!! Great energy!
YES!!!
Smokin? Brandon burned the house down! He then took those ashes, lit them on fire then put them on a rocket then fired it at the sun and the sun exploded.
I really enjoyed his playing and tone.
Mixed beautifully with Cory's.
Hell yeah! Those Eric Johnson/Bonamassa/Eric Gales runs were incredibly well executed with infinite amounts of feel
That kid is a next level Beast. now !!!!
So many great solos!!!
2:53 Eddie (alto sax)
10:08 Cory (guitar)
24:50 Brandon (guitar)
28:31 Eric (organ)
31:58 Sam (tenor sax)
33:56 Louis (bass)
That sax solo on Gumshü, holy...
I read this comment before the solo started and I have now listened to it and just came back here to say...
*Holy...*
EDDIE
Jeeeeez…man…that’s insane..my new favorite sax player…
Yo, like you thought you heard it all on an Alto, but Eddie built something next level. Man, that was tasty.
Can't stop myself from listening to Brooklyn Bop all the time. I hope it's on your next album!
the album was already done before the tune was written. but you better believe it's gonna get it's due!
@@CoryWongMusic GOOD because IM OBSESSED since you played this in phoenix lol

I'm a drummer and man, what would I give to one play something with Negah... just such a great feel.
