Um... That drummer is an absolute MONSTER time machine. And it warms my heart to see a room full of young people diggin' the new Quincy jones Orchestra of their generation ( this is a huge development in the right direction)
They're a variety show. It's great that they figured out the proper balance between the music, and the skits and interviews. Shows always used to mess that up - way too little music. Plus, the old show actors mostly couldn't play, and had to hire a whole separate band, which usually became embarrassing in that the band was more talented than the actors. And so the actors were always trying to marginalize the band, to avoid that embarrassment - "Hey, you guys will play during the commercials, so the home viewers won't catch on and figure it out!" But we knew. We were like, "why don't they have the band in between the commercials, and then the actors could play skit highlights going into and out of breaks?" So then they started using DJs instead of bands. What a rip-off. This way is better.
Absolutely an ode to Scott Mulvahills “Begin Againers” and I’m all here for it. I believe Cory and Scott were on tour together for a while. I guarantee if you listen to that song you’ll get it. 2 insanely talented musicians paying respect to each other
I love the camera work on this set. It reminds me of when I was a toddler creeping my grandma as she played barrel house gospel piano for her church, The Liberty Street Freewill Baptist Church in Durham, NC circa 1960.
When guitarists are trying to be more heavy and becoming less musical in the process, along comes Cory Wong and hits it up clean. Doin' it different is always the right flow.
Came back to listen to this again today...lazy monday afternoon!! great mix balance, love the drums, hi-hats and cymbals like feathers, kick & bass... brass, keys, perc....heck it's all good ! lol! great job @Cory !
Cory's albums opened my mind up to other genres of music. The whole band inspired me to play my instruments again and experience the joy of being a musician. Happy
Horns & winds have such unrivaled layers, nuance & TOP like life force & PETAR on skins should be marketed as an uncontrolled substance - he's Top20 All 🌎
Wow the solo in Meditation got me once again. Saw and heard it live for the first time at NSJ22. Moved me to tears then and did the same again now. Beautiful! And the whole concert is amazing!
That's funny I was just listening to that, and I was going to comment "nice solo" without any hint of which one I meant, and then your comment was the next thing I saw, so I put my comment here.... and dang, they stuck another ad right in the climax! I don't mind the ads, but better placement maybe.
Can we get a Cory, Wongnotes, and Khruangbin collab?! Thank you Cory and band for continually posting such high quality videos and being all around stand up humans...this much love for sharing life, music, and knowledge can't be faked. Lead by example, listen to others, and teach from the heart!!
Can someone call the police? Cory's live performance have always been amazing but it is a crime how much talent is on that stage (and on the post production team)
I’ve always appreciated the Ode to Scott Mulvahills “begin againers” in Meditation. I heard it immediately, being a mulvahill fan and Wong fan it just hit close to home ❤️
Cory, I've been listening to your stuff actively since your release of Cory Wong and the Green Screen Band... Caught you live every time you've been near Madison or Chicago and I just gotta say I really appreciate your music and I'm glad it's starting to get the recognition it deserves, because you've certainly been on the grind. That said, I only have one simple request. I NEED to hear a Frogville at the next show you play in Madison. It's my girlfriend and I's favorite song and we have yet to catch one live. It would absolutely make our year! Thanks, Travis, a fan. P.S. I love how much your band has been able to cut loose a bit and start to mess around with improv. I know that's difficult to do a lot with a full horn section, but you guys still manage to make every show unique and special and the band's talent shines through. Keep on keepin' on!
@@travisumbel6877 We got Frogville in Dallas!! It was so awesome. I met Cory at the end of the show and he said something about being unsure of that tune but they threw it in anyway. Definitely one of my favorites
Stanley Steamer in the house indeed! Antwaun's clearly a genius improviser - I picture each of these United takes sounding completely different, all of them great.
Us too!! Love that this live recording is like being there again!! 😍🥳 Peep the purple masks in the second row!!! Behind the guy with the curls HEADBANGING constantly aka my brother @benny p 🎷🎸💃
I love what you do and appreciate the quality of your performances. To me, you are the best of Post Rock as Rock seems pretty dead, but I am more than happy to have it in your capable hands.
Thanks for blessing us with new concert footage Cory! Still hoping you’ll somehow hook up with my states orchestra and do something spectacularly awesome and funky with them one day 😅
So how does Nêgah Santos perform with Cory and the Wongnotes _and_ 4-5 nights a week with Stay Human on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert? Spacetime warping? Secret identical twin?
I love the musicianship and the joy within their faces as they play together like TEAM WORK🎹🎷🎹🎸💖 This is the modern day TOWER OF POWER!!! I'd love to see Corey & the Wong Notes hook up with Huey Lewis and the News.💖
seeing musicians smiling at each other when they do something cool is one of the most wholesome things on this earth
Agreed
i hate it when whoever is in charge tells the crew they cant smile. like WHY THE HELL NOT?
totally
It's a testament to the culture Cory has created.
We all have our thing. Lucky us, tihis band has that thing!
"Meditation" has to be one of the greatest songs ever

@@GizzyDillespee dude what are you talking about. This is a big band perfomance.
@@GizzyDillespee mmm
Sierra Hull absolutely shreds those solos. She is world-class. This was pure joy in miniature format!!
Meditation keeps getting better. This is the best version of that tune yet. KG killed it.

Absolutely agreed: the cinematography is as lyrical as the music with much much love in it

Jay killed it with that flugelhorn solo!
Chuck Mangione says "Feels So Good"!

the drum solo on lilypad warmed my heart
and the interplay with Nêgah Santos, and such a great horn chart from Michael B. Nelson.
Nega Santos is by far the best percussionist out there right now. She’s a beast!
38:00 I'm swooning 😍
What a great set. Kevin Gastonguay on keys doesn't get enough love. His solo in Meditation gave me chills.
Brooklyn bop comes home, happy to be there!

Beautiful comment, Reminds me that no matter the crowd, the joy is realky between You & the Most High & thats ALL that matters
9:52 This tone is insanely good. Delightfully Scofield-esque voicings too.
I agree my , favorite part
Over the mountain is my favorite composition and performance

Kevin and Sonny T solos 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was there in the front row!!! So amazing
What makes Cory great is that I’d rather WATCH him on RUclips than LISTEN to him on Spotify!
Lol. I like his podcast on Spotify.
The bad thing is that he gets less money from RUclips views than Spotify streams...
@@thmsrttg how is it bad
Can't believe I'm just discovering this guy. Wow is the only word that comes to mind.
Cory, you spoil us so much with SO much footage!!
What a gift to everyone who listens. Truly what I needed tonight

This is the appetizer before an in person show, and I feel like I'm getting full already

Loving the B3 with the Leslie. Such a classic sound. 17:57

How is it possible that a band is ACTUALLY this tight live? Good lord. The pocket is insane.
