You know - I’ll say this: I dug my V1 RP200 out this weekend and honestly it’s not that bad considering it’s from the early 2000’s. I just compared it head to head with my Strymon Iridum and a reverb pedal, and at least for clean blackface tones with a Strat (Strymon “Round” vs RP200 “blackface” with a cab) the RP200 isn’t too far away! Some of the multi effects are garbage, sure - but for amp simulation I’m surprised by how useable it actually still is as a quiet practice tool. Granted, I wouldn’t record with it. But if you just wanted to jam and not wake the family it’s still got value I think.
@@SwedishMeattball guitars and tube amps haven’t changed much since they were invented 75 years ago. Computers and software on the other hand… Amp modeling and DSP is computer technology, which is why I think it’s surprising how good Digitechs early modeling DSP is.
My RP200 had been sitting for about 15 years, at times out in an unheated garage, a humid basement and a hot attic. I dug it out yesterday. The pedals didn't work, the pots were all scratchy. The screws on the bottom were rusted in, I had to take the grinder to two of them. But, after disassembly and a LOT of DeOxit and working the switches and pots on the board, she's good as new. Yes, ugly. But a great pedal. Love it. And the Guitar Tuner is one of the best I've used.
Yep, bargain. The dedicated whammy pedal does sound a little bit smoother but it bring a whole separate set of problems with it and as you say - just look at the pricetag!
I don't think this guy spent nearly enough time with this unit. Fair enough. I've had mine for about 22 years (yes, still working) and I will say the amp models alone make this well worth the price. The Marshall model is the best (Marshall in a box) I've come across and (having tried several) comes closest to the VIBE of my old JCM800 half stack I had 30 odd years ago!!! CRAZY!!! Oh well, to each his own, I'll just keep buying them up.
Yeah the same could be said for a lot of my reviews I guess, there's never enough time. And yep, old gear is criminally cheap these days and plenty of it is 100% usable in contemporary situations :)
Excellent demonstration. I had this for my band in high school, and when I switched effects units from this to a line 6, my friend who wasn't a musician asked why some parts didn't sound as good as usual. He didn't even know I'd changed my rig. I'd say that speaks volumes for digitech.
A totally fair and relevant point. First, it's all in there ear of the beholder, there is no one 'best sound'. And second, I've seen some amazing patches from cheap effects pedals (one of my faves is the Zoom 3030 from 1994) that I've never heard recreated on modern units that are 10 times the price. Great comment, thanks for watching!
I have an RP200 and use it on stage. My vote: Classic. It works really good. Those switches are mint. Yes we play mostly 70s,80s,and 90s. I am looking to replace it for newer overdrive sounds. I tried using my iphone but the technology is far from plug and play like a multi effects pedal is. I want the new fantastic sounds but they cost so much. My guess is I should get a used Mooer GE 200. In Canada as cheap as $270 CAD. Other than that...Valeton? IDK.
Just got an RP 200 for $5 bucks at a goodwill store , whoever did the pricing didn’t know what it was ,took it home plugged it in and it works great , so I went on you tube to check it out and see the reviews, some people love it some give it a bad rap , all i can say is I got one for the price of a hamburger and fun to play with , it seems that there is a lot of things that it can do that aren’t being shown , I guess I’ll just keep learning it’s secrets, just another fun toy in the arsenal 😆🎸
I recently got a RP 350 and also an RP1 some of the overdrive sounds on these things sit just right under the fingers, only minor tweaks to presets is needed, The RP1 was £500 when it came out it was studio quality rack sound in board format, dirt cheap now, a must buy if you like bighair rock lead tones 🎸😁🎸😁
I had one, it was actually my first pedal. I remember thinking it was the greatest thing in the world, playing through a Squire Strat and a Crate 15 watt amp. Now I realize how awful it was lol
gear doesn't make a great musician, the way how he will put it to use does. of course the digitech won't sound like some higher tech effects but there's definitely a place in music production for these oldschool tools :) i own Digitech RP50 and a Kawai FS-690 keyboard (made in 1994) quite a toy but perfect for 90's sounds!
Neither garbage nor really a classic yet, one word "useable". I always have been a big fan of Digitech ... and also Zoom, well, and also Korg, and ya know Akai, COOLMUSIC... and a few no one has heard of or forgotten.
I recently missed out on an Empress Zoia - it seems like a pretty amazing guitar multi effects, and the first really innovative one I've seen in a long time. Have you seen it?
@@gearfacts Yep, but for the price and capabilities, I could pretty much create the sounds with a couple of my pedals I have already. I have an Empress Effects Heavy Dual channel, but that's about it. If I was going to spend that much, I would buy a Chase Bliss Blooper pedal, but be careful cause I heard it could drive the user insane.
@@dawnr8511 That reminds me, I did get that multi-modulation pedal you mentioned a few months ago. Must start filming on that one, it's pretty cool. After the big releases of January/February though, I've got considerable RUclipsr's fatigue :/
@@gearfacts Cool. I hope it works out for you. Take a rest my friend and maybe just upload some shorts (even of your cat who is a RUclips semi-star) to give you a break.
Hey it's 24bit! That's pretty decent. When everything hit 24bit it became more believable. The organ sounds are sweet! Too bad it's 90's butt ugly...which will be "in" in 10 years ( have you looked at people lately?), and worth $1000. Oh' how I kick myself I didn't buy up all the 70's pedals going for literally $5-$25 in 1985 when everyone was jumping on the digital train.
Overall I'm surprised that it could sound pretty good still if you're on a budget. Not bad on a keyboard either. I'd buy that for a dollar..............😁
MY AMP HAS NO EFFECTS- NOW I HAVE EVERY THING 60 BUCKS, I WAS GOING TO BUY A ROTARY PEDAL AND A WAH , NOW ALL IN ONE. SOLID ALUMINUM CASE, I WAS EXPECTING PLASTIC.DONT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS.
I remember when guitar world magazine had settings in their tab section for these pedals. Doesn't feel that long ago haha.
How times have changed! those old guitar mags look so ...old... now.

older gear is usually better u act like the mid 2000s is 1920

I paid $89AU yesterday for RP250 and reckon it's an absolute steal considering you can't get a Whammy under $250.

Oh those Mooer GE200 units are great, and an ideal jump from the Digitech. Recommended :)
Omg my dad bought me that in 2000 I think. I was 15. Such a cool pedal.
Sounds about the right vintage, and yep it’s cooler than it looks.
That original rp 100, was named new product of the year('01??) I think...
I remember being really impressed with the RP100 when I tried it our in a store around that time.

Yet more evidence that older doesn't necessarily mean worser :)
Sounds really harsh like it's not going through an amp.
Direct recording, amp sims only. That's the 90's for ya :)
Jep. These units are designed to go into your (clean) amp. They don't have cab Sims. But they actually sound great if you use them right.
20 to 25 dollars? Maaan! I would be lucky if I found that things for less than $50 in the USA!
Wow that surprises me
