- Al Perez stops by Ronin Motors to pick up a JDM engine and show off his latest build, a 2001 Honda CRV Turbo LS 4WD. Built LS bottom end, GT35R Rep. turbo, massive front mount, lowered and tuned on 110 race gas.....this thing moves! still a little work left to button it all up, but such a fun project.

In the 90's some friends were into Ford Mustang SVO's. There cars evolved over time and eventually had become drag strip driven only. I would have to look up there best times but if memory serves, the quickest of the pack was running in the 9's for 1/4 mile. He's fairly well known in the world of svo. Name is John Huber of STL missouri.
Back to crv's....I would love to see you install a turbo in a 1st gen crv. Nothing crazy, just enough boost to make everyday driving fun.
Bro the clock in your CR-V doesn't work...😂 They don't work in any CR-V lol still love em though
Mine does 😂 Just need to solder some shit
@@isakjetbean make a video.
I got an after market one so mine works fine
Mine doesn’t even have a clock from factory lol
Super easy fix just resolder the 4 resistors under the screen they have cold weldd from factory
I have 2003 crv 4wd automatic what are some steps can i take to add more horse power?
christian rodriguez short answer? No. The automatics arent tunable or upgradeable much other than a intake or exhaust. Not really worth the time or money, enjoy it as is. Thanks!
What about a 2nd generation CR-V WITH A k20 and a manual gear box? Any recommendations, I'm looking at turbo kits
What wheels ???
Its an AWESOME VEHICLE!!
Driving is pretty bad tho man.
Hope your dude (the driver) doesn't read this.
LOL
Can you do a follow-up? Maybe see this on a Dyno?
And ... Did you use all stock gears/CV axles and everything?
Adam Stickley It was dynoed twice and on pump gas was around 450hp and on race gas was over 550-600hp, using stock CRV trans internals. Not long after this it was parted out and sold :/ sadly, it had way more potential. Going to a better drive line and rear diff, upgrading the clutch as well would have helped a ton. Also its not shown, in this video we have a extra JDM longblock in the truck.....the video doesnt do it justice.
Im *certain* it didn't (do the CRV even a slight bit of justice)
They dude was scared of it.
Wish he'd have had you drive it.
Did he uhh 'wrap it around a tree' as we say where I'm from?
(b/c you said it was parted out...)
Have any idea how much cash it took to build the engine alone?
It wasn't wrecked, I think someone offered him good money and who know from there. It was a budget build, very affordable. Al is known for getting cool cars for next to nothing in price. He had a grand national before this for only a few grand. Im not sure if it ended up getting blown up or parted to fund the next project. Later on it was offered to me, and I passed. Have way too many cars as is
It was a nice ride
I love odd-sleeper style rides
Had a 1990 Beretta GTZ w/ the Quad Four H/O Engine when I was young
190BHP and 5 speed Muncie transmission
That engine is quirky (the W-41 also)
But, I did 130+ in that car ... many times ... lol
Fun Times!
Funny shit that I find the video after so long and 2nd gear synchro was bad hence the 2nd gear granny shift but I built another one not long ago
I want to put a turbo in my crv, put does it still maintain its reliability with a turbo?
Thats a pretty broad question. If the install, tune and quality are shit? Then no. Does the engine have tons of miles? There’s always going to be a cost to reliability with an aftermarket turbo setup. These are cheap engines, so run it. If it blows? Who cares
What was done to the Rear Diff?? What "CAN" be done to the Rear Diff? Is it 50/50 or 60/40 or what?
Im pretty sure it more like 80/20. Honda diff's are glass but hold for a while if you load before you launch.
I'm positive automotive k&d do an upgraded diff clutch for better engagement
@@hondaguy5226 gen 1s have a viscous coupling centre so once it locks it does 50/50
@@alittlehusky5 I heard it dosent. Maybe you're confusing it for the civic wagon?
You can pin the clutches and add some viscous couplers
Nice mountains where you located
Thanks! the gorgeous state of Utah!
Are you guys still in business? buying a crv soon and i'd like some work done
The Mountain is Calling Why wouldnt we be in business? Our FB page is up, our google page is up, our number is on and lights still work haha
@@roninmotors7466 where are you located? I'm building a unique crv
Utah correct ?
How much was the engine swap and everything that came with it?
I doubt it coasts more then $1500
You need a better exhaust. Awesome build tho. I hope mine surpasses yours
Are those 17 inch rims ?
They better be. The stock 15in are worthless.
U guy in colorado
