I’ve always loved this rose.We had one in front of our former house, which we planted. Didn’t really know a lot about roses at all, hardly anything. It gave the most beautiful display, year on year.

3 David Austin roses are OTW, Claire Austin, Jubilee Celebration and Constance, not Constance Spry. Constance too is pink but has cream inside. Desdemona, Olivia Rose Austin and Munstead Wood are currently sold out

Is there any climbing rose like Constance spry but repeating? Love the flower colour, size and fragance and everything about it!

Yes, there are several take a look at Strawberry Hill if you’re looking for a short climbing rose or at the generous gardener if you’re looking for something up to about 14 feet

If you want exuberant appearance of the climber like Constance Spry, and have some flower shower throughout the year, then I suggest you plant Constance Spry, and then 2m away, on each side, you plant some shorter, recurring English rose. Constance Spry will grow up, 6m at least, leaving 5ft from the ground relatively bare, for its large and thick canes. That space you fill with shorter roses, one on each side.

Ben, does this rose produce hips? If yes, could you please post some pictures? Thank you!

Please look out over the next few weeks for my hip content. I’m still waiting for them to ripen. It’s been so dull and wet here in the UK for the information you’re looking for is on its way shortly.

great video! I have a 15 year old Spry here in NJ. Magnificent. I had a sport come out at the bottom. What kind of rootstock is Spry planted on? I planted the rooted bottom sprout and I think it may be a huge rambler stock.

Hello, and thank you for your question and I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to answer it for you. You’re stock in the US is grown in Texas to different criteria than we have here in the UK

Hi there, The two root stocks most popular for your neck of the wood would either be a Multiflora Rose or the even more popular Dr. Huey rose which blooms once but with velvety wine colored flowers. These root stocks will shoot out 'suckers' not sports, since they suck the life force from the hybrid, and as such, should be removed from below the soil line - as close to the knot as possible. Sports usually grow from the crown above the soil. Hope this helps.

Hi Ben, I love your videos. I grow David Austin Roses. They always arrive in great condition and many bloom within a month.
I have a very long wrap around deck (80ft) that sits varying feet from the ground. I want to use roses to hide the area beneath the deck and let them trail up to the floor and around the rails.
I was hoping you might do a video of climbing roses. I’ve seen several climbing roses, but just can’t make a decision.
My deck area receives at least 8 hours of nice sunshine with the exception of one area and its partially shaded. The highest part of the deck from the ground to the floor of the deck is approximately 10 ft. I really want a wall of roses and hopefully one with continuous blooms. I really would appreciate your input. HELP!
