Duuude I love Sentenced! This is the very first video I watched on tv back in 2000. These guys played everything from death metal, melodeath, groove and some kind of gothic/heavy metal from Crimson till their last album. Ahh I still get chills after all these years...
Sentenced was indeed a big deal also internationally, but they ended the story of the band already in 2005 and I feel like not many people even know/remember them anymore. I'm too young to remember, but I'm glad I found their music during my teenager years🖤 Greetings from Finland, just found your channel!

There's countless stories of kids my age saying they didn't end up killing themselves because sentenced did it in their place in their songs. That's quite a compliment when you think of it
Yeah and sometimes there was a ray of hope in their songs. Brief is the light tells you to live your life to the fullest no matter how much the world sucks
That was like the 90s kids bonding theme in Finland. Kind of insane to be honest but then again we did kill ourselves quite a lot back then.

They did go back in 2004 I believe. Promoting The child white light. I saw them back in 2005 in their funeral tour in Mexico City and they are absolutely awesome and criminally underrated.
I was visiting my girlfriend at the time, many years ago, in Hamburg. When cd/coffee shops were a thing. I used to impulse buy music book by the cover style. I saw an album called. ‘The Funeral Album’ Sentenced. I bought it immediately and it was the best blind buy I ever made.

Discovered them with their Amok release. Frozen and their new singer didn't throw me off at all. Been a big fan since then. Wept when Miika died. Was so sad also when we heard the band was calling its quits. Still miss them. They were so unique.

I think you should also get to the true roots of Sentenced. There is some videos where the Taneli Jarva were still on vocals like "Nepenthe". It sure is good song no argue about that but this one of my favourite songs from Sentenced called "Awaiting the Winter Frost". Such a great beautiful intro and still f*cking brutal melodic death metal song. Well i am from Finland so Sentenced sure is familiar band for me almost from the begining of the band. Sentenced were more of a underground band until album Down. Noose is one of those tracks that lifted the band to more like mainstream metal scene at the time. New vocalist Ville Laihiala had joined the band and the time of earlier death metal were over. Down were great album, but for me two albums before Amok & North From Here were the true gems. First album Shadows Of The Past is more like combination of doom & death metal so it doesn´t have that melodic greatness as NFH & Amok has.
Well anyway i think that if you love metal as much i do i suggest to getting to know the band and listen all the reckords from the begining. After the 1998 released Frosen were the last album i bought and even that this song "Killing Me Killing You" were one of the "hits" of the reckord, i didn´t liked it much. Next albums were little bit too soft for my taste. Maybe now 20 years later i might even like those these days...

You should check out Charon at some point. They are from my hometown, and they are kind of between Sentenced and HIM, but still completely different. And because you like to see all kind of weird Finnish metal, you need to watch Dark Sarah - Dance With The Dragon (official video).
Incidentally also my hometown and there's some Charon and HIM already in the queue..
Charon was amazing! JP's voice is so great and they had such a great taste for melodies. Did you listen to Poisonblack's debut? They had JP on vocals and Ville Laihiala on guitar

I completely forgot about SENTENCED. I felt their music was always a little stale, but there are some good songs in their catalog. I really appreciate the fact that SENTENCED turned me on to the great KATATONIA. Thank you for diving into older Dark/Gothic rock.. 🕊

What makes Sentenced is so great that they embody the Finnish northern somberness and sadness. Its funny contrast because Finland is concidered the happies country in the world but there is still a lot of sadness and shit in the country. The alcoholism is wide spread and those long winters takes a toll.

Sentenced was the first finnish band in the Headbangers Ball, when mtv was about music. Nepenthe was the song, and Ville is not yet singing. Worth a check. And No one there is kind of related to this one.

Their old stuff is actually deathmetal. Wery good one from those old songs is "New Age Messiash"
when you're not in the right mood for life Sentenced's suicide metal is the perfect choice,i was about to suggest them at a certain point. if you liked the singer's voice try his other band poisonblack.
I love the album Amok and the earlier ones, I confess that after that it is not really to my liking, I woul love a reaction to any Amok's song. I lnew them in 95 and saw them live too in the same year. Their later sound has nothing to do with how they sounded earlier, even the voice is completly different, is like two different bands
Found them -93 when they came to play in our small town and I was there when they lowered the coffin on their last gig Oct 1st 2005. I cherish every album they ever released - From Shadows of the Past to The Funeral Album.

@@RitaFMachado No one died when they decided to end it in 2005. Their guitarist Miika Tenkula died later in 2009. RIP Miika.
Shadows of the past is the only death metal album and the best album. The reason they changed metal subgenre was because the lead guitarist died of alcohol poisoning i believe... so sad
It's a bit late, but I just wanted to clarify, that they changed the style naturally as their interests evolved and the previous singer quit. What comes to the guitarist dying, that happened a couple of years after they decided to call it quits. And it was because of a genetic heart disease. He was alcoholic at that point, though.
