- In this movie Sakhile Dube, guide and co-owner at Safari And Surf Wilderness Adventures, introduce guests to one of our local wild fruits.
Whilst out on our guided walking trails we often find Green Monkey Orange( Strychnos spinosa). When ripe the fruit turn a yellow color and naturally fall from the tree. It is favored by birds and a variety of small and large mammals including bush pig, duiker, monkeys, baboons and elephant.
Sakhile explains how to open the fruit and that the seeds are pretty large with a small layer of tasty flesh around it. It is also edible for humans although the seeds contain small amounts of strychnine.. This was believed to be a remedy for snake bites in African history with the strychnine causing the heart beat to accelerate against the retarding effects of the snake venom on the heart muscle..
Come join Sakhile on one of our guided adventures when visiting South Africa.

Someone give this man his own show!! I want to keep learning from him!
What happened with Sakhile? This man is fantastic! He should be narrating for Discovery or National Geographic.
He ran over a land mine in Ukraine.
Their facebook still updates regularly
He's recently done collabs with other youtubers

Sakile, thank you for showing us the Monkey Orange.
In looks, the fruit we know as Oranges are similar in appearance.
Little known fact: people who grow Oranges know the fruit is truly ripe when the stem lets go with light tugging.
If there's resistance -- it's not ripe.
Ours will be ready to harvest at Christmas! 🍊🌞
The trees are beautiful and evergreen. The flowers smell wonderful.
They require a lot of water, sun, and well draining soil rich in Compost and Worm Castings.
His voice is crisp as heck! 👌
I hope you come back soon, Sakhile. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Why is he not narrating "Nature" or kindred on Tv? The timbre of his voice is riveting! He'd have people watching just for the sheer joy of the aucostics! Book on tape? Oh my!
Yeah his accent is a factor, but I had no problem following him.

Hey sakhile just found your videos man this stuff is super interesting. Great videos man!
There's a variety of fruit where I live that's almost a cross between this monkey apple and a pomegranate. It's called a maypop and the edible portions taste like a sour lime custard. It was used by hillbillies to treat scurvy. Interesting stuff.
I absolutely love your voice. Visiting Africa is on my bucket list. Sending love from Shreveport Louisiana 🥰
Great vid!
Thank you. From Philadelphia

Also known as ihlali in Zulu.
Had to ask my parent, as most of us have lost a lot of our language thanks to forced urbanisation.

Is there lots of seeds? Are you able to send sell the seeds for greenhouse growing? What time of year do they ripen?
Your voice commands attention, no doubt. You need to get into narrative work
