Importing X, Y, Z Coordinates to AutoCAD from Microsoft Excel

- In this video, you will learn how to import X, Y and Z coordinates to AutoCAD as points from Microsoft Excel.
For this tutorial, we are using an example dataset which consists of more than 100,00 rows of data. Each row consists of longitude, latitude and elevation information. Prior to importing the dataset to AutoCAD, it is required to save the dataset as a CSV (comma separated value) file using Microsoft Excel, which can then be opened using a text editor like Notepad.
We are using MULTIPLE and POINT commands of AutoCAD to prepare the AutoCAD Script (.SCR) file.
Once the script file is created, you will be able to use the SCR command in AutoCAD to run the aforementioned script file, and in no time, you would be able to import the data into AutoCAD as a point dataset.
You can double click your scroll wheel to swiftly zoom into the extents of the point objects, and if you would like to inspect the points individually, you can right click on any point, go to properties, and you would be able to access the corresponding X, Y and Z values.

Awesome teaching Sir
Love your tutorials! Always learning something new. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for your clear tutorials. I appreciate the step by step explaining even minor details that seem obvious but not to a newbie.
Whilst attempting this on my own project I had a problem importing the script, i types 'SCR', selected the file and it didn't automatically upload the points it told me 'invalid point. Specify new point'. i tried just pressing enter or putting 0,0 in the coordinates boxes attached to my cursor , I also rewatched your video and made changes to my excel but no luck. Would be very greatful for advice from anyone on this platform and keep up the good work xx
same issue
Check your script file... Possible mistake that your point number going to be as X
Thank you. I'm from Brazil. You save my day
You are welcome
Very useful and informative video. I have save the all co-ordinate as explained by you. But it is saying a specifty the point instead of importing whole SCR file. Please advise.
Thank you very much.
Hey mate, thank you very much! You saved me tons of time haha! Greetings from Brazil.
Glad to hear that!

great work man
Thanks for tutorial I would like to know how to connect points and produce contour map ...
How can you insert the excel coordinates as blocks with attribute definition as a tag for each element?
Hey Geo, just asking how can i draw the conture lines from this, the 3d map?
hi, thanks for the video. why when I repeat all the process u showed in my case it enters multiple and point commands but doesn't import point? It just enters these multiple and point commands and allows me to create points but doesn't import my points from scr file
same problem
Thanks. Is it possible to add labels and attributes to the points?
How do you insert all points with the reference point 0,0,0?
I need to be able to create a 3D model out of this though. My life would be heavenly right now if I was able to do so!
Hi, i have a couple of videos that might be helpful for this, however using the free and open source QGIS software.
Check out the following videos;
1. Creating a continuous raster using a point dataset using interpolation methods (ruclips.net/video/IRMupikjXng/видео.html)
2. Creating a 3D model using QGIS (ruclips.net/video/WmobNBnN1lc/видео.html)
Another similar tutorial that might be helpful: ruclips.net/video/rgFI5WiXOl8/видео.html
I am also planning to publish a similar tutorial in a couple of days time, which might be useful for you. So you can keep an eye out for that as well. Hope this helps.
wonderful
it asks for SPECIFY POINT after running .SCR file....... I'm at Slitting Wrists stage now....!!...Autocad is such an UN-USER-FRIENDLY software. Needs some AI integrated within.
Why when am tryna open the scr file it says invalid points?
Thanks
Thanks for the intention to teach but it isn't working. I tried it on 2017, 2021. It just returns the multiple point command and It's waiting for me to enter the points or possibly click on the screen. You could verify. Thank you
Cool
AFTER COMPLETION OF PROCESS, WHEN I LOAD SCR FILE, ITS ASKING SPECIRY A POINT. EVERY POINT ITS ASKING, PLEASE GET ME THE SOLUTION
what is the purpose of this?
