- In today's video, I update you on some future renovation ideas for my landscape, Apply Milo at full rate, and More RGS to stimulate root growth. In addition, I give you my tip on how to abolish Quack grass in your lawn.
Last week's video where I explained the science behind RGS: • Starter Fert, N-Ext Rg...
Here's are 2 videos I made last year that show you how to spray weeds. (This will work on most broad leaf weeds such as dandelions and clover)...

Look at these roots John Perry~~~~!!!! Jake, seriously though, your knowledge is growing and you are becoming a VERY good teacher. I love it bro. Your progression in business and here on RUclips is incredible.
It really is remarkable!

Jake you should give us an update on the quackgrass. I’ve found that it’s almost impossible to get rid of it unless you kill your whole lawn. Luckily it’s only noticeable this time of year.
Great for those with postage-stamp sized lawns....easey-peasey. I mow my 1 1/2 acre lawn area, kill the weeds in it, fertilize it, and have no irrigation system. I'm in NE Ohio. Cool season grass, and it's a chore to keep the weeds controlled, with dallas grass, quack grass, crabgrass, etc. I use prodiamine 65WD, and Amine 400 2-4-D, which controls ALL the dandellions, and the crabgrass, but the dallas grass and quack grass is nearly impossible to keep under control. That, coupled with the invasion of bermuda grass from the neighborhood, and birds, is another story of hard to really control. Generally, my lawn looks pretty green all summer, but the pesky invasive grass and weeds are troublesome.
"Bam. Split. Pour. Spread".. The Lawn Care Nut has "Throw 'er down"....You've got that awesome saying Jake.
love the video. very knowledgeable for your age and enjoyed it. Just want to let u know a tip i learned for quackgrass is added more N to your lawn for ur lawn to over power quack grass. But everything you said is also correct. Just wanted to give you advice after learning from yours!
Best quack grass control tips I've heard.. Thank you I'll try your approach
6:15- 6:19 inner LCN coming out in you Jake LOL,
Great video Jake 👍👍👍👍
lol
This is the first time I'm seeing this young man's video Caleb J 24, and what you said is the very first thing I noticed about how the lawn care kid is presenting himself :>) Yes, I think he's doing a superb job with his presentation!
George Streeter glad you agree, he does a great job with his videos and if I could say one thing that would be that I am glad that I subscribed to him because not only are his videos helpful but they are also very entertaining to me and probably lots of others too. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great Video Jake! I am dominating my neighbors thanks to your help! I live in southern Michigan.
Colin Huyck Boom! 👍
I personally trim before I mower so I collect the trimmings from the trimmer. 😀
You should really do a Lawn Care ASMR. Filling up the gas, mowing the lawn, clipping the hedges, etc. I think you would get a lot of views and people would really enjoy it :)
and this video said it was supposed to be talking about how to take care of quackgrass not how to take down a tree and plant arborvitaes
Here’s an idea. Put a Dwarf Korean lilac tree on the corner. Put two dwarf mugo pines or box woods on either side of the window. Put three autumn joy sedum or happy returns day lily in the middle. You can put a mix of hostas and other shade lovers in there if you’re facing north or get less than 6 hours of sun in that location. The forsythia are awesome but may be too large for the space unless you want to trim them when they reach the too large stage. When buying plants know how large they’ll get when mature and decide if they’ll ultimately fit in your location. Whoever planted the tree you took down didn’t have that knowledge and the result was well, you had to remove it to prevent issues. Good luck!
Jake! Dude your lawn is poppin! You are kicking ass and taking names my friend! Does your neighbor know how famous her house is and who used to live there? Also your videos keep getting better and better! I like hanging out with Milo too but I didn’t think of taking selfies! You schooled me again! I could go on and on but let me end by saying keep up the great work, you are the future of lawn care!!!
Mike R Thank you so much! Yes she knows all about it. Definitely, take pictures with Milo.👍
With your situation, I would plant hostass plants, and some bushes. Plant annuals in between. That will look good. Take that into consideration. Or plant some grass there
AndysLawnCare andOutdoorAdventures Thank you for the suggestion.
AndysLawnCare andOutdoorAdventures good luck Brother!!
lots of roughstalk bluegrass this year in the Northeast; the cool wet weather just wont stop.
New house looks to have 50% quack grass in the front lawn that is 4500 sq ft. I'm guessing the best method is kill the entire lawn and reseed? Any other options?
Mine is the same. What did you end up doing?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Awesome job Jake! I am going to follow your advice and see how my lawn improves!
For those trying to speed up quack grass eradication.
Try adding "Fusillade II" along with the tips from Jake.
Super informative video btw!
Keep it up!
Interesting this is the first time I have heard of that product. I have KBG and rye. How has it worked for you?
Certainty will also eradicate Quackgrass but is a tad bit more expensive but goes a long way.
I think the area by the mail box has a lot of rock under that dirt which heats up and kills the grass roots. Dig it out fill in with top soil
Jake is the hero we need, but not the one we deserve 😭😭😭🙏
my nae jeff He is working on it and doing a great job! He is growing with every video!
I was wondering how to get some of the grasses that are not the turf grass I'm trying to grow out of my lawn. Thanks for the video Jake.
Jake, I’m looking for a good pair of noise canceling headphones to listen to music while mowing. What are you using? Any other suggestions?
Great video! Can you let me know how you are doing so far eliminating quack grass with cultural practices? I have tall fescues mixed up on my bluegrass lawn and I wonder if I can do the same to weed them out. Thanks.
Jake dont plant a forsythia that close, I just spent two days taking out my 15 year old forsythia, the roots spread into the lawn(where they grow new forsythias) they grow like crazy so you better like pruning..a lot, and when those yellow flowers drop they get on everything and stain, dont do it its as invasive as a poplar or sumac or manitoba maple, or..lily of the valleys .(im in the process of injecting roundup into the stump via 1/4 inch holes to kill all the roots before I sawsall them out)
I'd love an update on the quackgrass. I've just started cutting it, along with the KBG around it, down to 3/4". I figure I'm REALLY breaking the 1/3 rule on the quack, more than on the KBG. Going to do this for a couple of weeks.
Did you ever control it?
He lost the battle and put in new sod.
Great video Jake! Keep it up
You should plant a lilac bush. Do you know how to get rid of acorn sprouts in the lawn? Every fall I get rid of my acorns but the squirrels always dig more. Please help! Thanks!
Gonna be trying this with you got some quakgrass in the yard as well gonna drop back yard down to 3 and push growth
Great video Jake!
Spotting a lot of quackgrass in the lawn this year Jake, did you mow everyday? How low did you take the turf? How long did it take to eradicate the quackgrass? Thanks bro, hope to see you again at Lawncology
This was great. Quackgrass... who knew that's what I've been dealing with! Just subscribed to your channel this week here in 2019. I figured I'd check out what you were doing about 11 - 12 months ago. I started watching LCN last spring, late spring, to try and start treating my lawn better because I was going to the school of giving it just fert 2 times a year and letting it grow longer. And yup... lots of Quackgrass. While fertilizing is great, and I used Miloganite for the first time as well... I'm most interested now in keeping my turf free of these unwanted things. Thanks!!
Glad I could help! Welcome a board!
The pleasure is mine! Maybe you've addressed this, in another video... but hopefully I'd like to find out the best way to identify the different species of weeds and grasses I have in my yard. So far, I've just been looking at the types of weeds that seem to give people the most trouble in my area and am seeing if mine can be identified as being the same. So far, spurge and this Quackweed, along with clover and of course the prickly things that are easy to pull up (with gloves) are my biggest culprits.
Jake..Great video thanks. I have had some good success with Ornamec 170 on quackgrass. It beats up the fescue and bluegrass a little but it bounces back,
Where do you live? Considering this option. Bought Fusilade ii (might return my unused bottle). Ornamec 170 looks like it might be more user friendly. Thoughts?
Don Underwood I’m in NJ
Don Underwood like I said it’s helped me. I’d wait till temps are down below 85
@@Keepgoing47 I just did a tenacity app on goose grass and it beat the crap out of it with 2 apps 14 days apart
Can't you use Certainity WG for quack grass? I know it's a warm season herbicide, but its a selective herbicide unlike Glysophate.
I have heard at one point it was somewhat safe on cool season, but there is so little room for error on the amount that kills quack and the amount that kills KBG is super close
hey jake....how did the cutting shorter work for the quackgrass....my backyard is KBG and i am dealing with what i think is quackgrass
Love your lawn it looks great and love your vids to. Last year you inspired me to start my own Business and I have been doing pretty good so keep up the great work oh and also can we maybe get a garage tour
Jake, your the man. I have quackgtass as well and I thought the same thing. Make my turf nice and thick to choke it out but wasn’t 100% sure if that was the answer. But I’m going for it. Also what are your thoughts on this, I’ve had our yard grade and reseeded late last fall, I was nervous to but down preemergant down in the spring cause the grass was still new and I threw down some seed in thin spots. I’m I good to use a pre emergent now? I’m in the north east so we have similar turf grass I believe. Yah ma man. Keep up the awesome work.
Tim- Crabgrass is well on its way in the Midwest it may be a little late for pre-emergent. Use Dimension if you decide on using it.
How did it go mowing lower? I'm mowing at 2.5" but the quackgrass is as happy as can be... Could scalping patches of quackgrass help?
Hi Jake, so our lawn was not taken care of by the previous owners and we just moved in. The diagnosis is Quackgrass and Lawn Tech recommended we start over by removing the lawn!!!!! Is this necessary? They suggested sodding the entire yard because they can’t get rid of the quack. Thoughts?
my sod had quackgrass in it...so annoying...i am going to try to cut it shorter like he suggests and see if that works
Ever try to use that Round Up gel for that Quack grass? Thought crossed my mind. Thanks for the tips I have the same problem.
Great channel, Jake - awesome instructor
Jefferson Sixx Thank you
So my lawn its about 70% quackgrass 30% Bermuda, south Tx . What's the best possible way to get rid of it or at least control it.
Hey, this is kind of a stupid question, but would a lawn look good off you mowed it both ways? ( up and down then left to right) thanks
That lawn is looking hella green and nice. I think I need to up my lawn game. # Lawn-Wars
You doing great job bud keep it up
I see brown and yellow spot, and the lawn have large brown dry batches
Great job jake!
Jake
I got a bunch of quack grass. Do you recommend treating it the same. Just out grow it w/ my tall fescue. I’m in a transition zone in southern ca.
Yes. Just mow it more often.
Just a friendly FYI Gentlemen.
The chemical "Fluazifop-P-butyl"
Found in Fusillade II helps eradicate Quack grass.
Great job as usual! Definitely Forsythias. Arbor vidaes are garbage, plus everybody has em. btw, good job on converting your neighbor! LCN's ex-lawn lives on!
Hey Jake, just saw your new video on BP and $spot. I was wondering how you feel your increased n apps + lower cutting is doing in reducing population? I found out the hard way how fast QG can spread after moving into a new house and aerating an unestablished back lawn heavily last fall before seeding here in Minnesota. Very thick perennial rye with some KBG is what I have back there now but the QG has spread everywhere in just a few months. Was just wondering how you felt your progress was coming. I’m considering spraying RU on the whole works and starting fresh again, but things are looking great and healthy as can be but that darn QG is killing me. Thanks for the help Jake
hand pulling and cutting as much as possible is the only cure for quack besides using glyphhoste you have to crowd it out with your healthy lawn
All undesirable lawn species can be eliminated with a paintbrush, some round up, and the commitment to be the best.
Any recommendations on how to control poa triv
Yeah John Perry, look at those roots. What’s up.
Your "new" neighbor is better looking than the previous one.
Daniel Dennis Haha! Good one.
What is your 2018 lawn care setup
Good Job Jake !!!
Why is your gutter 1 ' off the ground ?
It's safe to use Milorganite monthly??? I just put my First app down a week ago and I thought it was July 4th my next application??? Help!!!!! Should I do some spoon feedings as well?? I had Dollar spot last summer from all the rain we got in Pittsburgh PA, and it went away when I put down Milo, No problems since.
With Milorganite you won't burn the grass. It is not going to harm your lawn to put Milorganite down more often than you would synthetic fertilizers. The point of doing it more often is to put extra Nitrogen into the soil which promotes growth. Just know that you are going to be mowing more often. Which doesn't bother me.
Hi Bo, I mow twice a week anyways on 3 inches, my lawn is very thick, NO weeds, I had dollar spot last summer, freaked me out! then did reading and with all the rain we got all summer, I guess that did something to the Nitrogen levels I am assuming since when I put it down after two fungicide apps two weeks apart I finally put down Milo and boom went away that was in Aug so was transitioning into fall anyways....so I wanna keep up on my Nitrogen but Not too much as I heard chinch sp? bugs Love Nitrogen :x
Hi Prtygrl44, I'm not very familiar with the weather in the Pittsburgh area but if you have lots of thunderstorms you will see it in the lawn. Lightning actually is the best nitrogen your lawn can get. Sounds weird but true. I'm guessing the dollar spot and other diseases you saw were because you would get quite a bit of moisture and then it would get hot. Rain, hot, rain, hot, and your soil never really gets a chance to dry out. This is a recipe for diseases in the lawn. Doesn't sound like you need to push the nitrogen so I would just put down Milorganite on the recommended schedule.
Thank you! I am was on the Fence about putting down a Preventative fungicide this spring but Never had a problem before last summer, and didn't leave any damage, NO reseeding nothing. so I wanted to see what happens this season and do all the proper things I read to keep it at bay as best as we can obviously Lol Thanks again Bo ;)
Are you going to do a mowing video
My mann
God bless you Jake
Neighbor was 🔥🔥🔥
If the video title is about quackgrass, the topic should be quakegrass not all this other information!!!
Your Neighbor is a Cutie 🙈 lol
Mow er Low, huh? ..... Sounds logical for Spring Bluegrass.
But when Summer heat hits, what to do then? ..... Raiser back up to 4-4.5"?
Jerry.Rigged Keep 'er irrigated.
looks like tall fescue to me. what is the difference between quackgrass and tall fescue?
Matt Paul it looks quackie
Lighter green. Grows much faster than the grass. It’s a nasty annual weed. Mine gets Glyphosate!
hmm i think my whole lawn is this type of grass oh well still looks good
Matt. Quack gets up about 3” then the leaves dog ear over. Fescue stands straight up.
I think my neighbor might get pissed if I dig a hole just over the back fence to get some dirt!
I'm having trouble with a particular weed and I can't seem to get rid of it how can I post a pic to get some help and feed back, anyone please help!!!
Send it to my fb page... facebook.com/jakethelawnkid
Where can i buy RGS and what is it good for?
Do you have a link to purchase that RGS?
The title is "HOW to KILL QUACK GRASS IN Your CRAPPY LAWN" but the Lawn Kid doesn't start talking about quack grass until 11:52 into the 15:32 video. UGH!
You sound the LCN.
Great video bro I just slammed the subscribe button
How did the quackgrass do with only mowing ?
It still comes back. There's not many other options then to keep mowing in line.
Thanks for your advice on Quackgrass Jake. I have an invasion myself down here in Indy...
Great informative video. Thank you.
Incorrect you can use Ornamec 170 herbcide safe for fescue and zoysia to kill quack grass
You naughty boy! Lol
Save the Dandelions!
Your parents are going to be hurting when you move out. Trying to teach my son to love the yard so he can be Jake 2.0
First 3 Minutes dued,,why showing cutting tree down ...why are you video on a tree cutdown, when topic is weeds.....HOW to get rid of Quack Grass 13:00 mark
We already have temps in 90s
Gdmng Jake, do you have a email so can send you pictures to show you what’s going on with my lawn
Gdmng Jake, question: can I put down fungicide and fertilizer the same day
Depends on the fungus you're treat in for. Do you know what you have in particular?
How about plucking quack grass? That's what I've been doing. I used a selective herbicide and it does great killing other weeds, but not the quack grass. So I am now plucking them one by one. I have pulled about 130 and there's still a lot to go.
That makes it grow more aggressively the next year
Did ya give the neighbor lady any just the tips? Huh, didja?
Glen Atchison Maybe! 👍
She said she was going to give you just the tip? Sorry to hear
Connor Lewis All good bro. :)
How far away is your farthest job and how far do you take your riding mower
the everything Channel and hobbies The opposite side of my neighborhood; I only work within the hood for now.
Jake The Lawn Kid nice
at least ur garage doesn’t have a 52 chevy sitting in there smh lol (i do)
Where is the title of the video work
It's in there somewhere 😁
Cool. Disliked
@@dekonfrost7 thanks for the engagement 👍
RGS only avail in 5 gal. jug - $105. Wow
Does tenacity take out quack grass?
fadetoblack51 yes it works great and kills other weeds and creeping bentgrass without harming your lawn
Don Knicker how do you know this? The label doesn’t say Quackgrass
Josh Turpin I used it last year on my lawn and it worked.
Don Knicker Really... I have tenacity but didn’t think to try since it’s not listed. Are you sure it was Quackgrass?
It does not. It will injure it but it will recover
What happened to your craftsman
Mow lower for quack grass control? This stuff is the bane of my existence right now I need to kill it. I have a bottle of glyphosate calling my name...tempted to just go nuclear on it.
Whoa! Slight white spit ball sitting on lips @ 12:40, drink of water bud will help you out. Just sayin'
Good job with the vids, well done!!
Tell megan I said hellow beautiful.
No Arborvitae! They will never thrive in your zone.
??? maybe you should change the title..
Why? I answered the question 🤔
Just as tip keep using gas powered rotary mower! That’s what she said.
AJ E Haha! I love it.
Meagan needs proper shoes and gloves.........perhaps even read the label, novel concept I know.
That pesky quackgrass
