Great video. I'm training someone to mix at the moment, and this will be really useful as a resource to show them the moves you need to make while mixing.
Because we don't have the staff, I just send a two track console mix to the software. It's a live stream so what you hear is what the console sounds like. I have console effects sent to the mix as well and to add a little "room" to the overall "sound", we have a little Mackie mixer for the sermon only. 😎
Love this video and it helps me alot to understand more how to mix ;) - I work often as a FOH engineer but for "normal" bands - we called this "Top 40 Bands" in Germany.
Im not a sound engineer, but im a church drummer, and as a musician, i often had to help in mixing too sometimes. And now that i come to think of it, its quite an ingenious idea to use apps to monitor the db of your mix, ik it might be obvious to one who is a pro at this, but to me it never actually came to mind.😀 Will now be incorporating this method and letting my sound guy know about it too.
Very informative, thank you. I love how you get it dialled in and then let the songs play with minimal intervention. Most people ride the faders and if you watch carefully they keep push them up and then down but the down is usually less so the whole mix goes up and up until they run out of headroom and everyone is deafened. I meant to ask why does the bar at top of level meters keep blinking orange?
Great video Jake thank you! Our church is in the market for a new console and I'm really leaning towards the Wing. It's crazy but majority of what I've heard about this board is negative but as far as I can see it's my top choice right now.
I noticed that you have a more instrument than you do vocals. I have the opposite I have significantly more vocals, with people singing different parts for the songs. Do you have an example of this with just a single acoustic guitar or single piano? Otherwise it was fun to watch you do this.
Great video! Love it. I realized that your gains are by far lower than mines. What stageboxes are you using? I have a Midas DL32 and I read somewhere else also that you have to have very high gain settings in order to get the signal to an acceptable level with these stageboxes. Are you using Behringer stageboxes?
Brother…. Do you use mic splitter….in our church we need 8 channel mic splitter like Behringer MS8000… can you suggest me which company can I buy….I need cheaper solution
The Wing sounded cleaner then I thought it would. Not liking the drum sounds. The kit sounds a bit behind the mix and not enough definition (body) to the snare and kick drum. I find the toms don't have that nice crack to them. I would have the bass a little louder too. But..this could also be because like you said, we aren't hearing the sound of the room. It might sound killer in the room. :) The mix is pretty good. Nice work!!
Hi another new update is out, bad news no DCA spill. When is Behringer going to give us something useful in the update. DCA spill is long overdue even the X32 has it. It’s time to switch to another console. Besides this wing already been for repairs twice. Behringer being a let-down, their teams not listening.
Because it doesn't need to be calibrated, it's just a visual reference or guide to how loud it is. Human hearing tends to self adjust so that after a while "loud" doesn't seem so loud any more, so a fixed visual reference is useful to counter that. The actual numbers aren't important, just that the numbers stay at the target level.
It is according to your building and the acoustic treatment inside. My venue hits about 94 db on heavy songs. Spoken word sits between 80-88 db. My venue sounds great with it and I am sure the home of Churchfront has amazing acoustic treatments.
@@jeremythomas2865 most of the time people complain about the harshness, a correct pa system tuning will help get louder without the harshness in the 2.5k-5k region
Do a broadcast mix next please!!! I’m sure I’m not the only who would love that!
Duuuuude yesss
Yes, you are right!!!
I’m down to watch that
I would love to watch it as well
YES Please
I love this video! I would love to see a brodcast mix and a band rehearseal/soundcheck video!
I'm really loving this man
Good job Jake! Nice and tight, vocals right up front, band supporting nicely underneath.

So was I 🙂
Thanks for doing this Jake!
What app is running on your phone? I assume it's for overall volume level in the room?
Decibel X app
Would love to hear how your stage sounds
I would love to hear how you approach the drum kit since it is electronic and how it is different/same the approach to an acoustic set.
Yes thank you so much!
The phone app I use is "Decibel X" - apps.apple.com/us/app/decibel-x-db-sound-level-meter/id448155923

Our church recently bought it. Thank you
And a year later how's it working out, curious
@@BradyMcClanahan it's working great. No bugs

Hey Paul I'm really new to this thing my church pick me for the mix. I would love to recommend the wing I'm going to need a lot of work from Antigua
Hey Jake, is that the delay you have on the fader you’re riding?
Yes
Amazing video Jake!! this is very helpful!
Great video! What's the name of the app on your phone that measures DB?
Thanks for the video!! We have a Wing, but there are no levels shown on the channels. How can we fix that? Thanks.
I have the same problem.
Hello Jake! Thanks for this video. Some questions about it: what processing are used on master channel? Do you use allpass flitering? Thanks!
What is the db meter app you're using on your mobile device?
Decibel X
This video is awesome but man that thumbnail is spectacular 🤣

We are looking too, have done a ton of research and I'm sorry to say but so far I think the Wing has it for me.
Love the video! What’s the app that you use to measure the SPL?
I think it’s called Decibel X
Yes it’s Decibel X
Amazing! Should give it a try this Sunday!
This was an amazing video.
Hei, is taht electric drum? But how you can make that drum to the mixer each channel?
Alleluiah
Is this mixer you guys are using currently?
That's a great FOH mix!!!
Man, that snare sounds killer! What's it tuned like in person? He has it cranked high or medium tuning?
Nevermind, electric drums
Nice mix! 😎

Are you using Behringer stageboxes?
We have a s16 and I find the gains have to be pretty high for something like a sm58, so I doubt they have a lot more gain than the DL versions
@@stephenevans2518 ah ok - understood. Seems the same as with the DL32. THX

What's the phone app name for dB monitoring?
48 Stereo. 96 mono right?
You have a few hundred available mono inputs but only 48 channels that can be mono or stereo.
The Wing can mix up to 48 channels. The channels can be configured to be stereo or mono. In theory, it can handle up to 96+ inputs.
Thanks @@johnalmaraz39
lol, you must hate Paul. His fader is constantly in the lower third 😂

Love seeing you adjust the autotune. Sometimes everyone's song needs a little help!
If someone gave you a free mixer up to $20,000price what would you take?

Come on over to Allen and Heath family 🙏🏾
Holy snare verb
Of all that tech, why not buy an actual calibrated DB meter? Something 20$ would be way more accurate than your phone.
