I had learned this on my own... Everything did better if I sealed it first... I usually use a Rustoleum Gloss before dotting or whatever... Glad to see this video...
Thanks for this amazing video which gives me another idea to work with . However it will be nice if you shared the way resin is applied and with a demo of dotting on it . Am a beginner and love this amazing art and looking forward to learn more techniques .
Thank you for that cool tip. I have found that using varnish as a basecoat prior to applying my stencil lines definitely makes working easier. My question is how do you apply stencils/grid lines on top of the resin or do you freehand your designs?

I often do complicated blended backgrounds on my paintings & mandalas - and after accidentally making mistakes that were almost impossible to fix and damaged those intricate backgrounds, I started painting my backgrounds and then putting a coat of resin on it & then painting the rest of it once the resin was cured. I’m with you; it usually makes for a much smoother painting surface (especially on natural stone, etc) as well as having the added benefit of often making any dot mandalas seem to “float” overtop of the background (it’s a super cool effect, and I absolutely love it when it happens! 😍😘) Thanks for much for sharing tips & tricks. I learned so much when I first started painting from experienced artists who were willing to share their often hard won words of wisdom. Appreciate it!!! ❤️

Hi, Jessy. This looks very cool, and I’d like to try dotting on top of glossy varnish - (not ready to venture in the world of resin yet.). However, I’ve heard in several other dot mandala tutorials that dotting on top of a glossy surface (like a glossy clear-coat varnish) can make it difficult for the paint to adhere once it’s dry. They’ve said there’s a risk the paint could crack or peel off in spots, and therefore advise against dotting atop a glossy surface. I like your idea though, so I wonder what your thoughts are about the risk of paint not adhering well to a glossy surface. Thanks.
I would love to try a resin surface to dot on like your round coasters! 😃 💕 🙏 I do spray a varnish on top of my stones after basecoat is dry & it makes such a difference as you demonstrate! However, I am sure it's amazing with resin.
Pam J I have a few available in my Etsy shop (if they aren’t gone already). Flick me an email if you’d like any other items resined first etc - Jessyd.designs@gmail.com
Looks beautiful but... I have used resin before on different art form and after a while it goes yellow. Could you please tell me what resin you use and has it been tested for longevity re discolouring? Thank you :)
Thank you for sharing but what is resin? Which brand/type do you use? Would dotting on wine bottles give similar effect as doing it on a resin surface?
Joy Thompson yes you can use a white charcoal pencil but make sure you rub off most of the powder/lines before you apply paint as the paint may not stick properly.
Julie Homer it does go nicely on canvas but it apparently distorts the shape after some time. A resin teacher in a class I did a few months ago told me this so I’ve never bothered trying it on canvas.
I just use a coat of black acrylic first on the item i am going to use, wood, paper, stone, glass etc. way cheaper then i resin the finished product, turns out mahvelousssssss

This is a great secret to share thank you so much I will start resin everything from now on
If you give your base paint a sand with a high grit sandpaper, to get a flat surface. Sandpaper is cheaper than resin.
Very helpful! I see how to fix my problems. Thanks!

Amazing
What do you use to draw on the design? Does chalk type pencils still work?
Joy Thompson yes you can use a white charcoal pencil but make sure you rub off most of the powder/lines before you apply paint as the paint may not stick properly.
How do you mark your lines on the resin?
Thank you so much. Which resin do you use and how do you apply it? Some use a flat card while others use a brush.

I.
Hi
Hi, how do you achieve such a high gloss with the resin? Also how do you finish off the back of stones. Love your work.
Hi Jessy, Ive only just started in dotting and I would love to try the resined disks please. x
Do you have a video to show how to resin your items?
What type of resin do you recommend?
Double resining makes the dots look like they’re floating on the art piece.
I just use a coat of black acrylic first on the item i am going to use, wood, paper, stone, glass etc. way cheaper then i resin the finished product, turns out mahvelousssssss
Is the resin self levelling?
Dotting secret❤
What brand of paints are you using?
How did you resin the pieces?
I am going to try this the next time I resin rocks will do up some extra's. Hope it works on rocks as well since that is what I dot.
It definitely does Geraldine! I resin my rocks before I paint them too... i find it helps heaps :-)
Once the details have been placed on the resin surface, is it possible to then apply a matt varnish, if you didn't want it glossy do you know? 😊
Good to know thank you
Love some please!!!!
Can you use a chalk pencil for guide lines on top of the resin, would that erase off, or would you recommend just freehand dotting?
Chalk pencil on resin would scratch it. I’d recommend freehand.
Which gloss varnish do you use please? Thanks
What kind of resin do you use and where will I buy it?
I use several different types. You can get it on Amazon.
Do you use UV resin or more like Easy Cast resin?
I haven’t worked with resin yet and was wondering if varnish would work as well?
I have the same question.
Could you sand the wood pieces smooth?
Hi what kind of resin do u use , water base, oil ??? Brand or type
Can I use liquitex medium gloss
Good
Is it possible to purchase the coasters that already have a base coat of resin?
I want to get better at dotting but really don't want to use resin.
Hi
Did you use Epoxy Resin?
Hi! Where do you get your big black stones from?
I've watched people dot on canvas, how would the resin work on that?
I wouldn’t resin canvas because I’ve been told it warps over time.
where do we get resin, I have purchased many spray clear, black and white paints. If I use these on bottom, will that suffice?
You could definitely give it a try. Purchasing resin is different depending on where you live. Just google search it. Or check on Amazon.
There is no such thing as perfect.
