My Grandpa arrived in San Jose in 1962 from Mexico...moved to Gilroy a few years later..my parents grew up there, I was born and raised there...I have many Great memories from gilroy garlic festival, Christmas hill park, Del brouno school, many friends, Sadly I had to leave due to my career I am now in the Oil and Gas industry in Odessa Texas..But I will never forget my child hood hometown...

Depends where you’re at. The worst areas are the entire east part of town, especially near South Valley and the outlets, and especially around Las Animas Park on the other side and some of the surrounding neighborhoods. Besides that, not particularly.

Gilroy was getting crowded 20 years ago from yuppie types thinking they were moving to " A GREAT SMALL TOWN/RURAL AREA TO RAISE THE KIDS".
And with that they brought their smarmy condescending way of life with them that just ruined it for the locals who lived here for Generations.
Now you have five-storey ready-made ghetto apartment complexes that have come to Gilroy, with people brought in from the Northern Bay Area cities who bring their own special "INNER CITY ENRICHMENT" with them.
If you don't know what I mean by that, just look at San Francisco and think on a smaller level, for now.....
So yes, you are right Gilroy is a ghetto.
Or should I say has turned into one.
