I've never found any joy in wholly randomized Pokemon. Like, part of the fun is getting to know the species, what they're capable of, what counters them, and how to play around it. But if their types and learnsets get randomized, all bets are off. To each their own I suppose.
Completely randomised Pokemon aren't fun, I'll agree there. Randomised spawns are fun, but only if you're watching a streamer IMO
This isn’t fun I agree. But I think randomized spawning can be fun. The pokemon are normal, they’re just random, you can catch anything anywhere. Still allows for strategy, but with tons of variety
Learnsets can be pretty fun, or at least randomizing TMs.
But yeah randomizing types really makes the game unfun.
Randomized trainers are shitty but randomized encounters are a must in my opinion.
i like randomizing learnsets cause it lets you play with moves you might not get to use normally. but it can also make pokemon unusable if their learnset becomes terrible. I do not understand randomizing types, though. having to rememorize what's good against what sounds like a pain
There is also the idea that if jan did this whole nuzlocke he could keep track of pokemons types and better know how to deal with things
Absolutely. If Jan did this from the start he would've beat the game easily.
True. That vaporeon 100% shows us that

It does make me wonder if someone could make an enforced nuzlock mod. Where fainted pokemon immediately are released or revives simply don't work, catching another pokemon after the first in a route is impossible, things like that
@@JustSomeoneRandom1324 in the game nameless fire red, there is a nuzlocke option. There, if your Pokémon faints, it cannot be revived by Pokémon centre, or revives. Also, when you catch the first Pokémon in a route, and encounter another Pokémon, you can't catch it, the poke ball option is gone
@@JustSomeoneRandom1324 There are plenty of romhacks and fan games with a nuzlocke mode.
I personally don't like them because a lot of them add something additional or will just delete the dead Pokemon. I'd rather just follow my own clauses and have leave my dead Pokemon in the PC to keep track of what died.

I've always told myself I'd never do a complete chaos randomization run. Because it's not as fun when you have no game knowledge or anything. However, as always, PC makes it look fun and mentally engaging. So I might give this a try actually
Same, seeing him break down what type a move could be from a random move set was fascinating to watch. But then again PC is on a whole other level
To be fair, if he had been playing this run from the start he could already know a lot of the pokemon's typings from previous encounters, which would have made these fights a bit less chaotic.
I'd say randomisers are good to start off just because they're really fun if you don't know a game as well and allows you to think critically during the battle itself to prepare for thinking critically outside of battle
Having your own mons randomized seems fun, but not knowing the ais Pokémon types and moveset just seems to take away the fun of knowing how to play
I have to say as much as I'm sure it would get on a lot of people's nerves not knowing the type of every pokémon as soon as they see it, I think to myself "This is just what we had to go through playing through Pokémon Red/Blue back when they first came out" (if you did it blind, without a guide or whatever). You think I could tell at a glance that Cubone was a ground type or Meowth a nortmal type when I didn't even know what all the types were? Haha.
@@Gohka but that's exactly why people don't like it. Having possible years of progress in your knowledge be basically useless makes things less interesting since you'll just play like you did back then, spamming stuff until it works, which is typically a less fun than using what you know works.
@@dominickperez2952 I think everyone is overlooking something here, and that is the pokemon types and move sets aren't completely randomized every time. Like he noticed, if you find two of the same pokemon, they have the same types and moves.
So if PC had been working the Nuzlock from the start, he would have seen most of those pokemon the E4 used before, and would have some knowledge of there types from those experiences, rather than being completely blind.
Could have easily made the run doable.
@@BeginswithPIE There are versions of these ultimate randomizers that don't do that and have unique typing everytime. I'm not sure if it was the same for this run, but if it is, it's a lot of note taking for information that will become useless the second the run is over.
@@dominickperez2952 Even if he hadn't been note taking the entire time to get the information exactly right, he would at least have had something to go on after the 20 or so hours that the Nuzlock would have taken.
Knowing even 20% of the enemies is a huge step up from knowing 0%.
I know you don’t usually do randomized lockes but I really enjoy watching you think about the game this way. It’s a lot different than the way you play EK/BBVW/etc.
Yeah, I want to see a full randomizer, he is used to spreadsheets and that will blow out that strategy
Shift mode matters so much less when the typings and movesets are randomized. It still makes it easier, but not by the order of magnitude that non-randomized game does.
I hear you but at the same time if I know a physical attacker is coming into my weak defense mon its super safe to just swap to a mon with high defense. So its still busted
@@ImAviex STAB super effective crit still kills a mon with high def in a late game scenario, doesn't it? Though I guess that's more of a "there's no way to play around crits in a randomizer scenario" than an argument for switch mode being less super-easy-baby mode.
In the early game, you're correct since you have no info. At this point though, you've probably met almost all if not all the mons in the game and you might already have intimate knowledge of their typings at the very least. So fighting the E4 at this point on Shift/Switch mode is honestly pretty stupid.
This points out what he says every time. GAME KNOWLEDGE IS EVERYTHING. The first thing he does is think what pokemon he has what he needs what hms he has. Perfect just perfect.

It’s cool
Super randomizers like this kinda counterdict hardcore nuzlocking to me. I mean, in Nuzlockes there's no mechanical skill involved, only knowdledge. And if you don't have the knowledge what's to come, you can only prepare so much for it.
If it's "just" random Pokemon but with the normal stats, it's at least somewhat doable. But predicting the types of each one, nah sorry. That's too much rng for me
But still, it was very fun to watch. That could be quite the interresting series for the future, picking up hardstuck nuzlockes from other people and try to beat them
@Abacus why dont you just shut up and respect people buddy
@Abacus what a badass
@Abacus bruh
Heya, I think you've got a good idea about PC having a series where he takes Nuzlockes in a really tricky state and tries to rescue them - I'd watch the hell out of that! Reminds me a bit of another video series on RUclips called SoftLockPicking, I think it's by either Pikasprey or JRose11, always get those two mixed up haha. But whoever did it, it's an awesome watch, and a similar idea of taking a game in a near-unwinnable state and finding a way out of it by creatively using only the tools the game gives you, but without starting a new save ^_^
But I gotta say, I'm weirdly focused on the word "counterdict" - I presume it's an accidental combination of the words 'counteract' and 'contradict', and I quite like it! I reckon I'll use it on purpose when I next have the opportunity. But with that said, neither of those words make much sense to me in the place you used it - what exactly did you mean? I *think* you might be trying to say that it's counter to the point/nature of hardcore nuzlockes to have things so random that you can't effectively plan and strategise - is that a reasonable summary?
i would love to see you do more stuff with randomized types. this actually is helping me so much with how to teambuild and what to do to safely switch in on possible super effective hits
Going into this video knowing both their personalities and play styles I can tell this is gonna being a hell of a ride
The music for these battles goes hard as fuck. This gen had some wild music.
@Merciless Freak shut up
@Merciless Freak but the music is playing in the video?
This was super interesting to watch, especially with trying to predict the types of pokemon and understand why the AI made its decisions, instead of just setting up a pokemon of the appropriate type and sweeping, and knowing everything before it would happen. Its a very different skill set, and its also one you have but show less frequently.
Really sick to see you use AI patterns and safe switches to deduce all these typings. I feel like some people can just throw their hands up in randomizers and say "oh well it's random not much I can do" but very cool to see this kind of problem solving
I just realized you can poison pre fight and then use leftovers and recover 19 percent of your hp every turn. Add roost and fly and your basically immortal

Very cool format. Would like to see similar stuff, especially with the thought process of building the team with what is in the box and using randomizer too.
I know you get this alot, but I feel you should give some more randomizers a go. Its very interesting to see someone who is actually GOOD at pokemon work their way through these problems.
I do like the "disaster saves" idea the purple cliff had you doing here, that seemed really fun.
I think if you had a randomizer that would tell you Pokemon type when it's sent out, that would be playable. I understand the value in mixing it up, but at a certain point there's just nothing you can do and that makes it unfun. If it gives you some information in the fight, so you still have to prepare with no info, you still don't know movesets going in, and you don't have enough information to do proper calcs, then that's enough to demand flexibility from the player without being unfair.
I can imagine you would have known at least some of the types had you played the whole game. Going blind into the E4 and getting this far is impressive
Woooow. This shows just how good the fighting type is. The whole first battle, every new Pokémon, “it could be fighting type”. It just threatens everything. He always had to check if that was the case before committing.
Knowing that PC loves Hollow Knight just makes me love him even more
I think everyone is overlooking something here, and that is the pokemon types and move sets aren't completely randomized every time. Like he noticed, if you find two of the same pokemon, they have the same types and moves.

Jan: play with whatever rulesets you want to enhance your enjoyment :)
also Jan: does he play on F**KING SWITCH MODE? Are you serious?!
Man you can just see the engineering levels of calculations going on in his head. Probably already calculated 30 different team once he reached Latias.
The outcome is unfortunate, but the concept is very interesting. That is to say, being given an existing file you know nothing about and fighting with hardcore nuzlocke rules. It's something you can't really do on your own, you wouldn't be able to excise all knowledge of the setting or rules. I'd love to see something like this again, if such a scenario makes itself available again somehow.
I think you would’ve won on the exact same terms as he had, he probably had species knowledge from prior parts of the game to help pre-know what type an evolution tree would be, not an unfair advantage that can be helped that’s just what comes from playing a whole save file compared to just picking it up.
Well played man. Couldn't have done it better in 10000 years

could be a nice caveat to your "no healing items" rule, allow yourself like (10?) Full Restores for scouting purposes only when you play a randomizer nuzlocke. You played exceptionally well and i could see you beating elite four without using all 10. so maybe limit to 5 or something (1 per battle).
