I get you mate. Well done for showing yourself in this light and demonstrating that there is growth in sight. Hard on the soul but you definitely have an awesome game. Best of luck for the future.
Momentum shifts can be brutal in tennis. No where to hide. I have had a similar game situation yesterday, and lost in the end . It sucks and hurts. Your game is epic. Keep at it!!!
I've become a huge fan of yours as of late and watching you embark on your tennis journey has been incredible. it's moments like these that set you apart from other tennis channels, this transparency about some hard truths in pro tennis. there's a quote from a movie that tom hanks is in called A League of Their Own where his character says "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard ... is what makes it great" always remembered that when i had mental cramps competing in sports. anyway, you got this brotha i believe in you!!
This is my favourite angle to watch matches. Rewatched this vid a lot as it really shows the height and speed of the ball better than directly behind imo.
Put up a great fight! Tennis is a mental battle and it’s insane how fast thought processes can shift so fast. Incredible tennis and it is very enjoyable to watch! Most definitely one of the best and most pure hitters out there and it is always fun to watch you play! Keep up the content and good luck in the future bro!!! 👏💪
Great match Simon. Consider your opponents forehand. As a forehand scientist myself the difference between you two was that your forehand became tired whereas he was relaxed and full of energy. Why? Because his takeback relies on keeping both hands on the racket throughout the unit turn, whereas you let go of your left arm very early, meaning your arm becomes increasingly tired throughout the match. Just something to think about.
You played well! Big fan! You'll get him next time! My thought (as a much lesser tennis player lol) is that every time I step onto the court is a performance, an opportunity for me to explode onto the scene and enjoy myself. For w/e reason I think when I can channel that concept it helps me serve big. I think like look at all the practice and work I've put in, lets explode out here and really enjoy it.
Hey bro, just learned about your channel and your game. Enjoying watching your play a lot. Keep your head up. I know it’s fresh but you have great tennis in your future. Keep fighting
I used to swig cider to control my nerves in matches but sadly it just slowed me down and my hand eye co ordination suffered. Tennis is so mentally challenging to stay in the moment, the ascendesy. So much concentration and focus required. Super admiration for the elite tennis players.
Keep your head up, man. Losing sucks, but you played some great points ... keep them in your memory bank and think about what you could've done differently or better on the bad points for your next match. You can do it!
Tennis is brutal. I think what happened at 4-1 in the third set is he started feeling very comfortable in the baseline rallies. Long exchanges were no longer going your way. At 4-4 I think would have been the time to change tactics. Maybe go for more serve and volley or bring him to the net. Its hard to play against someone who is all of a sudden rock solid from the baseline. Your opponent looked like he was ready to grind all day from the baseline and hardly missed a ball in that third set after 4-1. Easy to comment here on the side but yea I think serving and volleying, coming to the net or using the short slice to bring him to the net would have been your best bet to break his rhythm from the back and give yourself a better chance of winning. Cheers. Keep up the good work. Love your channel!
Hey Plamen! Thanks for the comment and feedback, and yes I agree with you, I probably needed to change something up there. But in the moment I wa probably more stressed and frustrated and couldn’t think to clearly. Hard to distance yourself and recoup your thoughts when it feels like everything happens to fast. And before you know it the match’s over :/
Just watched your match replay and good on you for reviewing yourself immediately after a tough loss. That shows some major grit! What I see in the match is that your opponent was moving better and had a more aggressive mindset. The key thing being that he moved backwards in prep for your shots and then stepped forward during many ball strikes whereas most of your movement was purely lateral - particularly during contact with the ball. This type of movement produces more errors as you are less likely to swing through the ball. I find flattening my shots and working my way forward into the court is the best way to regain confidence and oomph in my shots. If the opponent is making this difficult by being too powerful.. then consider standing further back at the beginning of points/shots. Just my two cents. good luck and keep it up!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment and the support! Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about and am trying to adjust that, I want to get my movement to be more of a V shape rather than lateral as you mention! Really workin on trying to be able to hit through the ball more, but tough to do unless I have the movement right leading up to it... We keep workin!
He does a better reverse serve right at the beginning of the match, at 1:43. Was unreturned. New balls probably helped and that one was very well disguised, looked almost like a normal serve.
Thanks for sharing and adding your insight/commentary throughout! Just an observation, when you serve and volley it works well but I didn't see you do it a lot. I realize you're probably more tired in the 3rd set, and trying to simplify some points could help, especially when your confidence is low. A number of his returns looked to just go right down the middle in the 3rd.
Thank for the comment and feedback Jeremy. Yeah I probably got a little more passive as the match went on and I will try to utilize my serve and volley more!!
Tough loss my friend. Nerves/pressure are a huge factor and can change the match in a flash. But important to note that the set you won was 6-1, whereas the sets you lost were 6-4, implying that you're a lot harder to beat than your opponent. Love your game - your hands, your speed, solid ground strokes, serve variety. All of it. You move like Novak and have the flair of Fed. Believe in yourself and keep training, keep pushing. All the best.
We all have been there Simon, we get you. Even though my level is far far away from yours, I also have been in the same situation many times in my matches, it is absolutely the nerves, because when the things were going bad, suddenly you start playing better and you level the odds because you are loose and no nerves engaged and then you are almost there to close the match and overwhelming excitement of winning an almost lost match kicks in out of the blue...
At 4-1 you hit 2 really tight looking forehands (after an entire match of nice loose ones). After that, you did look a bit fatigued. Great playing either way.
Yeah, I agree :/ Maybe started getting a bit ahead of myself, thinking like I already won the match or something... And that little lack of focus and all of a sudden the timings gone, and heeeello Frame...
yeah man sometimes if one gets cafeless for just one game and then loses it, the whole match can change. Here it was 4-1 and looked like you didn't give care that much to some shots, and they ended up being errors, game lost, momentum shifted, and then the odds suddenly shift. Here I must say the opponent looks like a perfect player and yet you manage to beath them. Very impressive.

Great match! I notice you hit to the net a lot in the third game. I guess you could use more net clearance at the baseline. Really like your forehand on the run. I felt like you should use that type of loopy balls to settle in if you couldn’t find you shots during the game.
Wow! Thank you for replying my comment! It could be from fatigue as well. If the racket head speed drop a little bit, the ball could also end up at the net. I also felt some of your forehand your center of gravity is a bit too high, especially some of the balls hitting to the net. I think you could get a little bit lower for your footwork before your forehand. I felt your component’s fitness level was better, at least on that day. His footwork was consistently at high level. You should hook the camera to the top of the back curtain using a selfie stick and $2 bracket. Would make a massive difference to the camera angle and quality of video. The angle you use at moment is unwatchable.
Thanks for the tip, it's a little tricky to get the whole court in the frame from the back curtain. I'd have to use widescreen mode, and with that the quality goes down a lot :/ So little give and take I guess
@@Simon.Freund Firstly, respect for uploading but I agree with the OP. Get your phone (or a used GoPro) onto a selfie stick and it hook it onto the top of the curtain (I just bent a piece of alu to the right shape to act as an attaching hook and the extended selfie stick allows you to reach up quickly), or better still, mount your phone onto the bannister of the viewing balcony for a proper top down TennisTV look! MeThinks you need more depth on your groundies and deeper approaches to his backhand side. You're allowing him to step into shots on balls landing short. Just my two cents.

There's always ups and downs Keeping your emotions in check is one of the hardest things to do When I started talking to myself in a more positive manner, it helped with keeping my emotions in check
So unlucky in your match as you had the match. But as you said, tennis is brutal and the margins are so thin at the elite level that a slight dip or a wrong shot selection is often the difference between winning and losing. Learn from it and use it to improve. I'm sure you'll be racing up those rankings soon👍
Tough loss. But you could see you were a notch below your usual aggressiveness and confidence. Your forehand wasn’t grooving like usual and I’m sure that drive you crazy. It’s like you had a bit less energy than normal and you did your best so let it go. Maybe next time if your forehand feels a bit tight, mix it up and find balls to approach on to get that positive forewarn momentum and if you grab a few points that way, your confidence will get boosted. Your opponent played well and you will beat him next time. Thanks for sharing and you got the next match!
Start grunting to get yourself going again when u have that letdown in the end of the third, also work on your fitness I think the other guy was slightly more fit his footwork and timing was consistent. But good stuff tough opponent keep ur head up

When I started talking to myself in a more positive manner, it helped with keeping my emotions in check
yeah, need to work on that more! Get's lonely out there sometimes and then you can easily spiral with your thoughts.
8:29 ball was out
Sorry dude 😢 thanks for sharing. Still an amazing level of tennis. Should be proud tho sometimes disappoints. Good luck next match.
Thanks for the support man!!
lol I'm🤣 whatching the other match.
So unlucky in your match as you had the match. But as you said, tennis is brutal and the margins are so thin at the elite level that a slight dip or a wrong shot selection is often the difference between winning and losing.
Learn from it and use it to improve. I'm sure you'll be racing up those rankings soon👍
yeah... Tough when it's tough... Thanks for the support Grant!! We keep workin
@@Simon.Freund I still compete so I know how tough tennis can be! Keep trucking👍
He looks like combined of Felix and Thiem 😂😂😂
haha which one, me or my oppoent?
@@Simon.Freund unfortunately your opponent. I mean the style
lowkey feels like roger federer vs djokovic
Haha that’s a very kind compliment. I hope I’m Roger then ;)
Watching this gave me stomach cramps
😣
Thanks :/ Was a tough one, and yeah forehand felt like a struggle from the first point. Need to figure out ways to handle that better for the future!!
Probably you would benefit from some extra work on your serve technique.
Yup, tryiiinnnnn, but tough to adjust :/ but tryin yes
Start grunting to get yourself going again when u have that letdown in the end of the third, also work on your fitness I think the other guy was slightly more fit his footwork and timing was consistent. But good stuff tough opponent keep ur head up
10:20 haha
haha opsie
A few forehands into the net then things start turning… need more to be a full time player, unfortunately!
Yeah, no marginals for those kind of errors if I want to compete with the big boys...
@@Simon.Freund You are doing good! No doubt on your skill, just the tinny little mental toughness.
Good luck to your ATP doubles!
