Used to walk in my yard with 5lbs ankle weights, people still think I was under house arrest. Mental health walk + Resistance training + Zone 2 + Street Cred
Trying to think of ways you could do this to look more badass/criminal so people leave you alone, but without getting arrested. Like you could do it wearing a biker jacket and ripped jeans and that would be okay, but handcuffs on one wrist might get the cops called on you...

This video kind of made me chuckle, because I’m a mail carrier. I walk 20k+ steps a day, 6 days a week, with a satchel full of parcels and hands full of mail. Wouldn’t mind seeing you do some reviews of physically demanding jobs/how they affect overall fitness.
yes!! like loggers burn sooo many calories! my boyfriend’s dad has been a logger for 30+ years - he is in his late 50s & the biceps that man has is crazy! he also lifts 4-5 days a week too
This is why I love your videos! You are so real when talking about the abs part. You don’t fake it and wait for a skinny day to do a video of your abs. This is why I keep coming back for more because I know I’m not fed some bullshit content like “get abs in 14 days with a weighted vest” or something like that.
@@KeltieOConnor I am in Vancouver too and I know of a salon that is super kind, compassionate for people with various levels of thinning hair. The owner started the salon because she had a similar time with her hair as you had. If you like I can introduce you two. It could make a really lovely video to share your experiences and see if they can do something for you at this salon?
I’m 64, started weighted vest walking in the summer, this vest has taught me to walk BETTER! I’ve been walking for 20 years. Started with 10 pounds. Just added three ankle weights to it, so now it’s 13 pounds. Next purchase will be 15…. Love my vest!!!! Strong legs!! I live in the country, so I pee outside and want to continue to squat and pee and stand up with no assistance…..TMI
My son has asked for a weighted vest for christmas, he is overweight but walks every day and likes light hiking. Thanks for the information as my husband thinks this won't help him..
I think one thing to keep in mind is that adding weight to any exercise helps with progressive overload which will help build muscles. Way to support your son, he's lucky to have a mom like you 😊❤
While losing weight your son can add the weight back to the vest and fool the body to keep burning the same amount of energy. Not feeling a change when losing pounds trick the body and delays that conservation mode.
I’ve been experimenting with the weighted vest at #12. Your video inspires me to stop experimenting and be purposeful on how I want to incorporate it into any of my activity. My original interest was for bone density and zone 2 cardio. Thank you for sharing your experience with this. I’m one of your 60 yo female followers, btw. Your videos are relatable even with our age difference.
I went to Vancouver for the first time and it was so walkable even with the hills. I've been feeling so strong and motivated since i got back. Plus it was above zero and the grass was green! It was a nice break from the seasonal depression. And now i can watch your videos and be reminded of my trip. I love a good 'i was there moment'.
We’ve been doing family walks and I’ve been wearing my 17lbs baby in a baby carrier. This is so accurate! I have to brace my core so much more than just normal walking! It doesn’t help that I’m holding my toddler’s hand so we’re walking at a 40min/mile pace.
I started rucking the past 6 months and long story short if you’re on the fence, just buy one and your strength and confidence will skyrocket (when done consistently). Get a vest that’s adjustable with weight, most people should start with 1-2 lbs just to get comfortable. I started with 2 lbs and worked up to almost 30, and had to get all new work pants bc of my leg/glute growth.
Thanks for making this video. I recently jumped on the weighted vest bandwagon and cackled when you said "how to ruin an outfit in 2 seconds"! Same, same. BUT I don't think it's necessary to separate weighted walks from mental health walks. I put on a good audiobook and music and treat it as a mental health walk, apart from running. Also, agree with you 100% that this is great training for backpacking (which I do a lot of in the summer). Weighted walks/hikes can take the place of cardio midweek, with backpack hiking on weekends if someone is training for a longer trip.
Love that you got that combo! I have to agree, if you talk it slow and not toooo much weight can defiantly be peak mental health vibes too 🥰 love you’ve found that!!
Keltie!! I have been watching your channel for 3 years and you are one of my favorite creators because you do such a good job of keeping it real. Your videos are relatable to so many people and are always phenomenal. Your channel reminds me to find balance in striving for health and enjoying life fully. I hope you keep finding ways to simply be! 💕 This comment belongs more on your last video when you asked for feedback but I remembered it now. I hope you are doing well!
I think it's always funny when Keltie feels like certain fitness gear isn't cute because I think it just adds to an outfit most of the time! I love the way running vests, weighted vests, etc look. I also loved the barefoot shoes she wore, but that's just me. You're killing it!
Maybe I didnt catch it in the video but you have it oriented upsidedown several times. You can tell based on if the strap is across your chest or across your torso (upside down). I found that if the strap is across my chest it was more comfortable and I didn't get back pain. Thanks for being our perpetual guineapig
I’ve been training with this concept for 40+ years/68 here. I use weight plates/#10ers in a daypack…wrapped in extra beach towels. Comfortable. Then I hit some hills. It’s also what I do offseason to get ready for climbing season….Mt Rainier/14,400. The hardest part ISNT going up…it’s down. KNEES and hips.
Yea I rucked with 45lbs with a large like bookbag (us. Army vet). I would not recommend if you don't work on legs, abs, and hips. I see a chiropractor 3x a week to adjust my hips and other joints. Please do dynamic exercises before rucking and stretch after. It saves you time and money.
Love this video! I noticed that in a lot of the clips you are wearing it upside down. I did the same thing and really hurt my lower back. You even mentioned that your lower back was hurting too when it was upside down. Hopefully this is helpful, love your content thanks for all you do!
I’ve been using a 15 weighted vest. The first 2 times I felt like Quasimodo walking, but the 3rd time it felt more natural. Now I won’t walk without it and it has completely changed the composition of my body. It’s been an addition to my wellness that I will always do now. I was walking 6 days a week 3 miles a day, but now I try to walk 3 miles when im not working a crazy shift.
Really good weighted vest recommendations would be great as my partner wants one too specifically for rock climbing for more strength but walking for me, thank you!!!
LOVE my weight vests!!! Recc’d by PT for a rib issue, ended up completely rejiggering my rolled-forward shoulder posture. Uhm, lack of posture. Core engagement is added bonus on hikes. Lower back is a huge fan. Tips: strap is sternum strap like a backpack. You had it on upside down in the pink outfit... and recycling. Have same vest, did same at first too 😂 For anyone who gets hooked, hyperwear makes a slim adjustable one. Stupidly $$$ but so much easier to layer for daily use.
I bought the hyperwear and it is very comfortable and snug. No rubbing or shifting. Totally worth the money. Wearing a weighted vest useful as we age also for bone density.
I watched this video while wearing a weighted vest on a treadmill. I love mine, but I also did a fair bit of searching to find one that had two adjustable straps so it’s a more secure fit. It’s not the cutest, but makes me feel like a badass and definitely ups my walks!
I have about 4 weighted vest and have been walking for several months. It changed everything regards to my sports. I use 10-15kg vest and 2kg on each leg.
2025 favor please! I always take you on my coffee walk and every time you mention’core’ I remember to tighten up. Could you do that randomly in your videos 😅❤
I super messed up my foot for a long time and I think it stemmed from trying to run in a weighted vest without building up to it over time or concentrating on form - it's crazy how much impact added weight has!
I've got an even heavier one & first time I went out with it on I regretted going too far, because then I had no option but to walk home carrying it & my back started hurting. What was I gonna do? Abandon it on the beach? I had to take it home. Start short distances!
i used to put weights in a sportbackpack to train for the mountains, and this helps not ruin the outfit too much, BUT I needed a new backpack every 2 months... because of the weights 😅
I got a cast iron Ruck Weight. It fits inside the laptop/tablet sleeve of my back pack, to keep the weight consistently close to my body. People in my neighborhood must think I'm going somewhere with a purpose when I leave my house for a walk.
Hahaha the Barbie Princess Charm School reference got me 😂 such a classic! Also, this vest makes me think of my baby-wearing days…with twins…yeah it’s a workout!
Reminds me of people in the military who have to carry their gear everywhere . For me personally it’s hard enough to hike in the mountains and carry my water bottle, snacks and a camera. The most amount of weight I carried for a longer distance was my backpack in school - it was so heavy (with all the books) in comparison to my little body.
I to walk back-and-forth to work :-) backpack sisters! Love this video really not so sure about the weighted vest although it looks like it’s doing wonders so maybe maybe. Thanks for cracking me up.❤
I have the same vest (25lbs). I think you need a 20lb vest. You have inspired me to try it on the incline treadmill at the gym, anything over 9% grade on the treadmill is awkward for me because of the angle of the foot strike.
tbh I think a backpack with weights would work if it has a good waist strap, otherwise you do end up hunched over haha. made that mistake many times while hiking 10+ miles with a ~30lb backpack 😅
Better solution, a small backpack with good waist belt and chest strap. Throw in a plate or dumbbell wrapped in a blanket. The waist belt will transfer a lot of the weight off your shoulders and it looks normal. As well as being functional and practical.
Thanks for this video about your experience! Been thinking a long time about buying one too but couldn't decide which one to buy. Did you mention what vest you bought or where you bought it from? Ty!
Just wear a back pack and stuff it with things around your house: heavy textbooks, old 9 lb laptop, multiple 2L (=2kg) soda bottles filled with water, etc
I bought one of those 12 lbers and I use it when I walk my dogs on occasion and I have done one low impact cardio workout with it on....I highly recommend! Crap, Keltie just told me I am doing too much....so guilty of that.
I got 12lb and I mostly wear it at home when I talk on the phone. As I walk around for 10 min or so. Sometimes, if I am listening to the video and don't really need to watch it, I do the same. I also wore it few times on my peloton bike, so when I pedal standing, gives me a bit more workout. BTW, love your videos, thanks :)
If you haven’t already - could you do a video of a challenge using a sauna daily and if you felt different before vs after doing it for a period of time. Infrared or dry doesn’t matter
I'm planning on getting a weighted vest so I can train for the military, once I get pretty comfortable running I'm gonna get one, since bringing my backpacking pack to the gym would be absolutely ridiculos
I fractured my arm running so can’t run or do upper body weight workout. I’m using a weighted backpack to do some resistance training during my recovery. I got a backpack rather than a weighted vest so I could add different weights to it but unfortunately didn’t get one with a chest strap which makes it harder on my back and shoulders with heavier weights.
i have a bad back so the vest does not work for me. I use a dive belt with 2, 5# dive weights.. .It keeps the weight low and off my back..Works for me!!
I thought my 22.5 lb vest would be no problem because I'm a seasoned weightlifter. Boy, was I wrong. I had to take half the weight out at first. I'm now about to increase my weight to 30lbs. It took 6 months to get to this point. 😅

i have a bad back so the vest does not work for me.
LOVE your videos! Has Huberman said something about this? 😅
