2:53 Are you talking only about the Spyder calibration tool? You can change a ton of settings on big brand displays like LG using the TV's remote. You can change Gamma, Brightness, Color Temp and even have fine grain tuning rgb settings on their ISF Mode which is super easy to access. The text issue could be oversharpenning or ringing. On a big brand TV there are sharpness settings and also when changing the TV's mode or renaming the input to PC/Graphics/Game mode like Sony, LG, etc., most processings are turned off so it gives a boost in clarity for PC use. Also in these modes, input lag is usually greatly reduced even down to 11ms on some models. You can also use two cheap, small folding tables for mouse and keyboard using as long as you don't mind looking too weird with it. This solution is very flexible. You can easily setup and/or store your setup this way.
I disagree with some of your comments, I use a Samsung UE55TU7100KXXU 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV for gaming, video editing, and photoshop editing. If you get a good quality TV where you have color adjustments, plus a good graphics card you will get good results. Obviously, having a large size means you can not sit too close.
Pretty much. Sony, LG and TCL have lots of fine grain tuning available. TCL don't have IPS displays though so if you are sensitive to specific gamma changes, you can get specific models of Sony that have IPS. LG is mostly IPS outside their OLED lineups. TVs can be great alternatives for monitors.

I think it would have been better to explain that tv are made for longer distance and more people watching, where a monitor is made for short distance and direct facing. The size, resolution, options to tilt, etc can be more or less the same for tv and monitors. I consider a 8K monitor for both tv and working with special applications, as long as I can get a reasonable size and shape.

i bought a onn smart tv 36inch and its perfect for me i mounted it to a fully adjustable dell monitor stand i have control over swivel left and right, tilt front to back and left up and down. my video card has settings that work with my tv just fine.
I have no lag response time in my video editor program, that might be on your computer hardware setup or that specific TV model. I've switched over from an IPS monitor to a Samsung Q80t 65" smart 4k tv. DCI-P3 color space, similar to Adobe RGB color range. No burn-ins. Crisp texts. Wide viewing angles. 120hz refresh rate option. Plenty of vertical and horizontal screen space. Adjustable brightness to match my old IPS Dell Ultrasharp monitor. A con, power consumption is higher on a TV than a monitor, but when you lower the brightness, it does lower the consumption a little. Overall, no regrets. But my wallet might say differently. lol
@@stocktrader9861 My Samsung tv has a rectangle base stand that measures 1.5 ft by 10 inches. But the table space is not the issue, it's being able to adjust how far back you can sit from the tv. I have my 65" tv sitting on a separate slim rectangle wall table, and then I have a smaller desk where my keyboard, mouse and tablet sits on in front of that tv wall table so I can move further or closer to the tv. Sitting 3FT away is good enough for me to see everything on the TV comfortably.
I currently own the q80t myself. Rtings gave an 8.9 rating if you use it as a monitor. I’m really thinking about mounting the tv instead of buying an 32 + ultra wide 4k monitor.
Not sure about that. Large monitors are usually around 32-inches. Anything larger will be ultra wide, and beyond that it's 55 inches an above. Maybe look at what Dell has to offer. Or if you have the budget, look at OLED TVs but will be significantly more expensive.
@@rodneydangerfield7153 OLED burn in could be an issue especially if you plan to use the display as a computer monitor which means the monitor will be on for long periods of time and there are static elements (task bars, icons). But OLED technology has improved significantly from the early days. Anyway, the main advantage of OLED is the better contrast, e.g. deep blacks and wider dynamic range. My recommendation would be to buy the monitor for the type of work you want to do with it.
I have a built-in computer monitor Toshiba LX830. But it unable to detect 2nd display on my Dell I2312HM monitor or AOC I2757FH despite using USB>HDMI and HDMI>VGA adapters. Tried on my smart tv it works though. Any advice?
I am looking at a 50 inch TV with 4K ultra HD resolution as a third screen just to play a Trading website. I can see Android Smart TV is available for 1/5th the price of the cheapest 50 inch Monitor with 4k. Apart from this I would not be using it for anything else. Maybe since it has android I would probably use it to play some youtube or Amazon Prime videos at a big size. But that would be rare. So will it work. I don't need any color calibration just a black and white trading screen with 4 colors like red blue green of the indicators. Would this work?

Can you please suggest a suitable monitor for that? Preferably 27 inches and more. I already have a iMac 27" Late 2011 Model just to give you an idea of what I'm used to right now. But I can't do graphics/ video editing on that anymore because of the graphics card being repaired and no longer usable for heavy video/ graphics.
Right now 27-inch 1440P monitors will provide most value for money. I recommend Dell U2520D. This should work well with the MBA. Be sure to check out the MBA forum on Macrumors. Look for that particular thread where people are talking about incompatible monitors for MBA and MBP. Avoid monitors mentioned by those users.

I sorted it all out, got a low profile card with a hdmi output, Unfortunately windows wasn’t designed to be used on a 65 inch screen, regardless of which browser you use, 60 inch is about the max you can use I have got a hdmi lead now, it works, but I am not happy with the results
This video is not that old but the focus of his concerns are questionable. Using a TV does not mean you have to use a 55" and set it on a desk. You can use a 40 inch or a 32" and hang it on a wall mount our use any number of stands. Why is he concerned about side viewing angles and all that stuff? Isn't lag time really a issue with your video card? I thought I had a pretty nice 32" LG 4K IPS Monitor because I paid a hefty $700 to get a good one. But later on bought an inexensive 42" 4k Phillips Smart TV ( Not really really smart) from Walmart for about $200 so I can stream movies but surf with my computer in my office. The Phillips TV blows my LG Monitor away with picture quality. The thing that gets me the most is that when there are things I can't see or read in the image on my LG monitor I can cast to my TV and it will be visable. I am not sure why this is. And example is say I am watching a video and the image in the video shows a picture of a book but I can't make out the title of the book on my monitor but it show clearlyt on the Tv. Maybe it is because a 42" TV offers about twice the landscape as a 32" Monitor? I am not certain. But I learned the screen sizes are diagonal measurements and the TV has double the height. But back to clarity. It would seem that if they both have 4k and x amount of Pixels per inch then the clarity should not be that different if I zoom in on my monitor the image should not be a blur. This all lead me to question would not itbe better to use my TV as my monitor. It really looks great and it is over 3x less expensive Smart TV 's are really kinda of cheap compare to a so called HD Monitor.

Dude, depends on what you do with your computer, size, resolution of tv and distance seated away. Let me explain. I still have, believe it or not, a 42 inch Toshiba from 10 years ago. Back then it was regular HD with tvs, which is 1920 X 1080 resolution. Guess what my 1 1/2 yr old PCs resolution is? 1920 X 1080 maximum. So thats perfect! I do not do video editing like the dude in this video. I do audio editying, Im a metal guitarist. Other than that just RUclips. Emails, buy stuff, etc. Im going to put the tv on the wall with one of those mounts at eye level (never have a monitor or tv higher or lower than eye level) and have my PC desk 8 or so inches away from the wall. It'll be killer

To be honest i used a 42" random Lg tv as a monitor for years, not on my desk but on my Living room with my main computer. Didn't notice what i was missing until it broke and i had to switch to a monitor... Damn, i'll never go back to use a TV for my pc again

I am more interested in knowing the function of the tv as a computer monitor with an HDMI cable. 44 screen tv for monitor seems excessive. The max I think is a 32 inch to use as a desk or wall mount monitor. A 32 inch tv could go as low as 50 on FB market and a 27 inch monitor would still be at 15p with hundreds of buyers in line.
i've been using a 40' tv as a monitor for over a decade. i don't recommend anything less. I'm looking forward to upgrading to a 4k 120hz unit sooner or later... and going bigger. no other way to game imo. Mount the tv on the wall to push it back and forward depending on use, and even use a custom aspect ratio for 21:9 if you like.
You're doing it wrong. I recommend 65+ inch and sit on a couch with wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm using 78" Samsung TV and sit about 6-7 feet back on a couch. No chair, no table. You have to buy a really high-end TV to be able to output 4:4:4 chroma image and nvdia maxwell (980Ti) or later graphics card to get 3840x2160@60Hz, otherwise you'll get either 1920x1080@60Hz or 3840x2160@30Hz. But once you get the right hardware it's actually a really enjoyable experience. You don't have to scale down DPI hence you have a lot of desktop real estate, the gaming and watching movies are very impressive and productivity is excellent since you have all that 4K pixel area 1:1 Also you really want to disable any kind of post-processing going on in the background on many TVs. This should remove any visible input lag.
I use a 36 inch Android TV in Ge and pc mode. It's excellent. Wouldn't go any bigger though as I'm only a half metre away from it. I actually downsized for better viewing.
I've been using TVs as monitors for the last 10 years, started with a 1080p 32" LG TV, then got Philips 43" 4K 30hz TV which wasn't that great so switched to Samsung 43" 4k 60hz TV and very happy with it. I'm sitting 1.5-2 meters away, using it for everything, gaming, content creation and consumption, reading, watching movies, will never go back to using monitors. Next upgrade will be to Oled when they get cheaper and solve the burn in issue.
@@georgestokes5116 depends on how far you're sitting from the screen, for me 43" at 1.5 meter from the screen is perfect but I have it mounted on an arm so I can move it closer if I want to.
The way you set up your tv as monitor can not be comfortable. You just made a bigger icons and use final cut in fullscreen, so you just using a small display and widen it. What you should do is to imagine you have a 4 displays and not utilize who whole display for one app. First reduce size(in monitor settings) to 100%, then in your case try to use Final Cut in the center, takin only 50% of tv space, like in fullscreen 27 inch monitor. From there, you can make timeline wider like in ultriwide and use upper space of monitor for non-frequently used apps
this video is very helpful, if u are deciding to buy a tv over monitor conclusion: buy monitor. TV's are there to watch for a group of people and not for working professionals. you cannot tilt and adjust height in the TV's.
I tried it once with a 32 inch TV. I think I lasted 2 days with it as a computer monitor before getting another monitor. My 24-inch monitor works much better than the 32 inch TV probably because the monitor was made to be a monitor instead of a tv trying to double as a monitor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A 32 inch tv is around 100 bucks while a 32 inch monitor is around 400 bucks. If u need serious graphics, pick monitor. If u need basic elements, pick a tv
I think it depends. Some TV have a better graphic quality than some low end monitors. It also depends upon users' practices. For a simple document reading and editing task, TV may fit with their' purposes. These days, most stores provide 30~90 days returning police. The user usually can know whether a TV can be used a monitor in a week or two.

I use an IPS TV panel 43" at a distance of 6 feet mounted on a wall across from my desk. . my headaches are GONE! reduce the brightness and adjust sharpness for text readability. I will Not go back to a desktop small monitor.
The whole way you are using it is wrong, the whole point is to use it for the extra real estate, you can either have 4 21.5inch 1080p screens, a super widescreen with extra real estate in the top and the bottom, or a vertical IDE if you are programming. If you are just doing what you are doing you get no benefit.

Your video has convinced me that I should buy a large-screen TV for my computer display, rather than a computer monitor.
This video is not that old but the focus of his concerns are questionable. Using a TV does not mean you have to use a 55" and set it on a desk. You can use a 40 inch or a 32" and hang it on a wall mount our use any number of stands. Why is he concerned about side viewing angles and all that stuff? Isn't lag time really a issue with your video card? I thought I had a pretty nice 32" LG 4K IPS Monitor because I paid a hefty $700 to get a good one. But later on bought an inexensive 42" 4k Phillips Smart TV ( Not really really smart) from Walmart for about $200 so I can stream movies but surf with my computer in my office. The Phillips TV blows my LG Monitor away with picture quality. The thing that gets me the most is that when there are things I can't see or read in the image on my LG monitor I can cast to my TV and it will be visable. I am not sure why this is. And example is say I am watching a video and the image in the video shows a picture of a book but I can't make out the title of the book on my monitor but it show clearlyt on the Tv. Maybe it is because a 42" TV offers about twice the landscape as a 32" Monitor? I am not certain. But I learned the screen sizes are diagonal measurements and the TV has double the height. But back to clarity. It would seem that if they both have 4k and x amount of Pixels per inch then the clarity should not be that different if I zoom in on my monitor the image should not be a blur. This all lead me to question would not itbe better to use my TV as my monitor. It really looks great and it is over 3x less expensive Smart TV 's are really kinda of cheap compare to a so called HD Monitor.

TV aren't really meant to be use that up close so I don't actually recommend that. A smaller computer monitor would be a better choice

Dude, depends on what you do with your computer, size, resolution of tv and distance seated away. Let me explain.
I still have, believe it or not, a 42 inch Toshiba from 10 years ago.
Back then it was regular HD with tvs, which is 1920 X 1080 resolution. Guess what my 1 1/2 yr old PCs resolution is? 1920 X 1080 maximum.
So thats perfect!

To be honest i used a 42" random Lg tv as a monitor for years, not on my desk but on my Living room with my main computer. Didn't notice what i was missing until it broke and i had to switch to a monitor... Damn, i'll never go back to use a TV for my pc again

I am more interested in knowing the function of the tv as a computer monitor with an HDMI cable. 44 screen tv for monitor seems excessive. The max I think is a 32 inch to use as a desk or wall mount monitor. A 32 inch tv could go as low as 50 on FB market and a 27 inch monitor would still be at 15p with hundreds of buyers in line.

i've been using a 40' tv as a monitor for over a decade. i don't recommend anything less. I'm looking forward to upgrading to a 4k 120hz unit sooner or later... and going bigger. no other way to game imo. Mount the tv on the wall to push it back and forward depending on use, and even use a custom aspect ratio for 21:9 if you like.

You're doing it wrong. I recommend 65+ inch and sit on a couch with wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm using 78" Samsung TV and sit about 6-7 feet back on a couch. No chair, no table. You have to buy a really high-end TV to be able to output 4:4:4 chroma image and nvdia maxwell (980Ti) or later graphics card to get 3840x2160@60Hz, otherwise you'll get either 1920x1080@60Hz or 3840x2160@30Hz. But once you get the right hardware it's actually a really enjoyable experience. You don't have to scale down DPI hence you have a lot of desktop real estate, the gaming and watching movies are very impressive and productivity is excellent since you have all that 4K pixel area 1:1
Also you really want to disable any kind of post-processing going on in the background on many TVs. This should remove any visible input lag.

I use a 36 inch Android TV in Ge and pc mode. It's excellent. Wouldn't go any bigger though as I'm only a half metre away from it. I actually downsized for better viewing.
I've been using TVs as monitors for the last 10 years, started with a 1080p 32" LG TV, then got Philips 43" 4K 30hz TV which wasn't that great so switched to Samsung 43" 4k 60hz TV and very happy with it. I'm sitting 1.5-2 meters away, using it for everything, gaming, content creation and consumption, reading, watching movies, will never go back to using monitors. Next upgrade will be to Oled when they get cheaper and solve the burn in issue.

The way you set up your tv as monitor can not be comfortable. You just made a bigger icons and use final cut in fullscreen, so you just using a small display and widen it. What you should do is to imagine you have a 4 displays and not utilize who whole display for one app. First reduce size(in monitor settings) to 100%, then in your case try to use Final Cut in the center, takin only 50% of tv space, like in fullscreen 27 inch monitor. From there, you can make timeline wider like in ultriwide and use upper space of monitor for non-frequently used apps

conclusion: buy monitor. TV's are there to watch for a group of people and not for working professionals. you cannot tilt and adjust height in the TV's.

I tried it once with a 32 inch TV. I think I lasted 2 days with it as a computer monitor before getting another monitor. My 24-inch monitor works much better than the 32 inch TV probably because the monitor was made to be a monitor instead of a tv trying to double as a monitor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Another issue I had when I tried to use a tv as a monitor was that it did not turn off automatically when I turned off the pc.... Annoying...

I use an IPS TV panel 43" at a distance of 6 feet mounted on a wall across from my desk. . my headaches are GONE! reduce the brightness and adjust sharpness for text readability. I will Not go back to a desktop small monitor.

Today mounted Mi tv p1 4k UHD 60hz and is good above my 2 24inch pc monitors. There no difference.
The whole way you are using it is wrong, the whole point is to use it for the extra real estate, you can either have 4 21.5inch 1080p screens, a super widescreen with extra real estate in the top and the bottom, or a vertical IDE if you are programming.
If you are just doing what you are doing you get no benefit.
