I always thought in game betas, how empty and alone you would feel. Like, in the MW2 Alpha, the ending was fucking scary. It was a straight up 1v1 between you and Shepard. In the Halo beta, there would have been open worlds and wildlife.
Valve really know their shit. I mean just look at this, even in 2021,its still impressive and can even beat AAA games. But now, valve just made a more crappier version of Dota 2, yeah you know what im talking about.

Pre release Half Life 2 makes retail Half Life 2 look incredibly bland by comparison, and this is coming from a huge Half Life fan. They scrapped like 70% of the cool shit they originally envisioned for the game.

It looks like a place that exists now, which drives it home to the player. As for the wasteland, well there’s plentiful of toxic waste dumps, abandoned buildings, lower water levels, radiation, etc
I read somewhere that the ragdoll physics were more accurate in the older builds of retail HL2. They got sorta broken with newer updates... Not sure about it's authenticity, though...
That part where we first encountered the hydra implies that the combine back then are mostly human as we can hear it screaming and saying “Who’s there?”
I feel like the companion AI was modified in some way.. they are always dumber in my playthrough, don't take cover, attack head on, don't flank or wait for instructions. And the keep reapeating the same phrases.

E3 2004 trailer shows Eli with the same Yale shirt but in blue color, Combine checkpoints have a yellow sign/screen instead of a blue one, gravity gun still has the sounds from E3 2003, the one table that blocks the doorway in the beginning of Ravenholm is absent, shotgun and crossbow being in the same group as the Pulse Rifle and the SMG, also the shotgun from E3 2003 is still present. 3. G-Man's eyes are quite more realistic, both in E3 2003 and E3 2004. 4. G-Man's monologue in E3 2004 is obviously short and he doesn't smile with the mouth closed, also, is just me or his right eye looks elsewhere? 5. in E3 2004 Trainstation demo, the screensaver after the end of Breen's speeches is yellow instead of blue. 6. in E3 2004 Tenements/Apartments demo, you find two male citizens looking down the street instead of a male and female. 7. in E3 2004 Ravenholm demo, the explosive barrels have quite a cleaner textures or it's just due to the footage's quality and the paint cans have rust or drips/stains of black paint. 8. in 2004 version of E3 Coast it is much like the final version, however just like in the 2004 trailer, the shotgun and the crossbow are along with the Pulse Rifle and the SMG, crazy ragdoll physics, there is mist/fog under the bridge just like in updated versions of Half-Life 2. and... that's that, if i missed anything other than the E3 2002 trailer and E3 2003 demonstrations since they are self explanatory, correct me

Well there's a Russian page that has most (parcial) part of the leak of 2003 that valve suffered. It has the HL2 betas (2001 or 2000 to 2004) and it has "betas" of episode 1 and 2. So if you wanna know the link just please tell me. About the beta City 17, there's not a map of a beta city 17 in the HL2 betas of that page.
@@turricanrocks1552 Titanfall 2 actually use a heavily modified version with all the Source engine stuff like Netcode, Old Audio, Old Rendering, to their In-house new one. They also removed the Console Command UI (which used to enable something like sv_cheats 1 or playing Half-Life 2 map in Titanfall 2). The game also used a different file structure (like newer BSP type), and it use 64-bit unlike HL2 which stuck at 32-bit (HL2 has 64-bit tho but this version was removed around 2006 due to instability.)
TBH, I don't think Half Life 2 is as good as some people say it is. Yes it is impressive for 2004 standards, and yes the Gravity Gun is probabbly one of my favorite levels. But I think Half Life 1 is leagues better. The weapon choice in HL2 is really blend compared to HL 1, no Tau cannon, no Hivehand, NO SNARKS!!!!!, no D20 charges, not even some weapons from Opposing Force. In fact only the gravity gun and the Pulse rifles are the only new weapons. Also the enemy variaty is really bland, you're only fighting zombies, headcraps, antlions and combines solders (oh and sometimes manhacks). No Houndeyes, no vorts, no grunts, no controllers, no Bullsquid. It's all the same all the way trough. Also there is very little horror in HL2, there is no gibbing, no real bosses (only 9999 choppers you can only kill with 1 weapon). I can go on why Half Life 2 is inferior compared to HL1, tough it still a decent game, and with some mods even better (like MMod). I hope HL3 goes back to a more HL1 style of gameplay, including the good parts of HL2, like Alyx (tough Alyx doesn't really have the ''hl gameplay loop'').
