people forgot how great this guy used to be so quick.
the back injury really hurt his career too
Bruce Deng and people don't even realize he got that back surgery right before he started the season with the Lakers..it's the same injury that killed t Mac career
21hho
There's no such light injury in back injuries. Most of them dangerous and painful. Especially Lumbar Radiculopathy. If you injured your L1-L5 spine that's most be painful injury you ever get. Because these discs bear the most weight and so many nervous tissues in there. All of your lower body central nervous system going there. I experienced so many injuries sprained ankles, Achilles tendon injury (3mm tearing), same time broken wrist and L4 spine disc slip. I don't feel my broken bones. But back was killing me. Most unbearable painful injury was back injury. i can't even move or breath heavy. Yeah, i won't amazed if Howard can't move like his best years.
he can still get up, yet he isnt as quick and explosive as he used to be
But he turned lazy and lazier as season goes by.. Hes just not working so hard. He can dominate todays NBA.
His two handed jams are just so satisfying to watch
Elvin John Tropezado it is

Crazy how much the game has changed in just 8 years
Orlando was actually ahead of its time, i think people forgot they were like GSW. Dwight was the commander of the post, but he was surrounded by awesome 3pt shooters. Rashard Lewis, JJ Redick, Turkoglu, Jameer Nelson all shot near or higher than 40% from 3, and shot a lot of them. The whole team was shooting over 2000 3s every season, and GSW for example last season shot 2800 (Steph shoots 12 3pt shots per game which is crazy). If they found a Steph Curry, Orlando would have won at least a title with Dwight because that elite inside-outside combo would have been really hard to defend against.
This makes me appreciate Howard more, because today centers be shooting to many jumpers. Centers should be posting up, pick and roll, and rebounding under the goal.
Agree
@@shuntavaisjohnson86 nah, i mean maybe you like that playstyle more, but its just not efficient anymore. the ONLY big man that is good without shooting 3s is gobert, and that is only because he is so dominant on defense that he can basically do anything on offense and he would still be effective.
@@Max-me9ol I would say that post play is efficient if the right guys are doing it. Most of today's power forwards and centers simply don't have the skills necessary to play bully ball (e.g. post moves and great footwork). Even if you want to argue that post play may not be very efficient during the regular season, it is still a higher percentage shot than a 3 pointer, which makes a big difference when everything is on the line.
damn I miss 2011, Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose in their primes
What really hit me in this video was when he blocked Brandon Roy :/
Before Dwight became sus af
Justin Wilhite Derrick was not in his prime 🤦♀️ nigga was like 22 he had so much growing to do
@@OrlandoSHIESTY neither was dwight
Right 2k should put this teams on there with the full squad
Dwight was once my favorite player, the last great big man before the stretch era.
Bro look how this man jumped off the floor on defense and offense.😭 Prime Dwight would give Jokic Hell don’t let these media outlets lie to y’all this man was a Alien especially on defense💯
Shoulda never left Orlando this team was built perfectly for him
2skinny he was traded tho
2skinny people can be quick to judge. We aren't living his life. Never know what goes on behind closed doors.
No his back and other injuries killed his career but yeah your right
@@austinjordan5098 he asks to be traded
Perfect example of "You dont know what you got till its gone"
I'm a millennial, 26 to be exact, but I can't believe I'm saying this but...
Kids these days won't understand how dominant Dwight Howard was...
Bruh your age perfectly aligns with the post 2006 era basketball (DH, Rondo, CP3, Durant, Rose, Westbrook, etc..) no need to justify being a millennial when their era of basketball is meant for millennials. But yeah the 2nd part I agree, kids nowadays just think of Dwight as an athletic fruit pebble
Dwight was playing with 5% in his Magic Days
Who else is here after watching Dwight ball out in 2020 playoffs
Rondo and Dwight were playing like it was 2010.
He did it again
Meeee😎
they were never really bad players they just fall from their primes due to age and injuries, but given the right moment and they are pretty solid players.
Yeah and he win he’s first championship
Who's here after Dwight Howard finally won a ring?
Yes sir
he used to play like a more explosive and athletic Shaq in the post. I could never understand why people would say he was a bit soft and did not take the game seriously; every-time i saw him play he was ferocious and always looked like he wanted to destroy the opposing big men.
he let people like shaq get in his head and in LA when shaq started the peak of his Dwight slander mocked how he needed pick and rolls to score in the lakers system so him and dantoni fell out and he had chemistry issues in houston too after that he just got older and dealt with injuries
he was the best center
white lol after shaq yao ming became the best center
in 2011 your saying old , fat , slow Shaq was the best in the NBA .You know that's when Shaq was on the Cavs . Yao Ming's career was over by this point and this was his last season where he played 6 games .
shrek diego Actually Shaq last season was on the Celtics (10-11 season)
shrek diego to be fair Shaqs weight was his best asset as he mostly used it to overpower defenders
yea but all that weight is what ultimately shorten his nba career. only if he would of taken better care of his body and eat more healthy instead of all the mc donald burgar. he would of been able to play at a high lvl for much longer. his career pretty much was done even before the 2006 championship run. he was out of shape got really fat and was injury prone a lot. 2005-2006 shaq was a shadow of himself. the man that was once known as superman was long gone and in it place was a fat dude that was breathing heavenly and could barley run full court. shaq could of been even more greater then he is now if he would of just taken care of himself more. in my mind if the dude would of just taken care of his body properly and stay in la with kobe. shaq would of gotten at least 7 or 8 championship. that is how great i think he could of been. but the dude would not stop eating junk foods and would not listen too teammate advice to staying in shape and eat healthy. namely kobe told shaq fat ass to stop eating and start working hard and shaq did not want to hear any of it from kobe. so they got into a argument witch ultimately result in shaq leaving la. man what a tragedy.
Who’s here because of Dwight Howard returns to the Lakers? Lolz
Me
Me
Me 😂
And I think he looked wider and stronger then.
D. Howard gets old but wise.
Once upon a time he was the best center in the NBA
those shoulders are looking insane. no wonder this was his best season
more like 08-09
Maybe on some forms of legal PED's that can accelerate growth but usually they would take specific legal PED's to accelerate recovery not so much hypertrophy to heal for game times.
His shoulders are genetics, he has big muscle inserts in his shoulders so they naturally are bigger. Some people just have the genetics for it, some are not as blessed. It's kind of like calves, some people just have genetically great calves, some have toothpick calves - they might be similar strength, but the muscle inserts between the 2 would be different.

byTENZlN Yea and players nowadays get freethrows when their fucking hair get touched. Soft league Nba wont last another decade fans are leaving.
This is the Dwight I'm used to see when I'm still a college student. Man! defenders were helpless down low. Those emphatic blocks, nasty dunks and put backs. Pre injured Dwight was a beast. He lost his athleticism after his injuries and he didn't master two or more post moves efficiently where he can rely on. I'm just happy he's doing great things in LA now. Best of Luck
Dwight In His Prime Is Real Quick And Too Strong. One Of Best Center For Sure.
He’s finally got a ring now
Was so athletic sad to see what injuries do to players , still amazing rebounder . Miss him on Rockets wish he would have accepted his role like Clint Capela
The Beard you don't think the same way when you are drafted somewhere and have no skill and when you are 3 time DPOY and made it to the finals and Dwight is not the kind of players that deserve to spend his time on pick and roll
Pick & Roll is a bread and butter for every big man. What he could want is to be on receiving end more frequently :)
@@kingphil4073 In 2015 Dwight was a come up. He should've accepted his role. He doesn't deserve special treatment for being a used to be. He was good until 2011
@@LaMarcGasoldridge apparently u missed the 2013 and 14 NBA season and post season. Howard was still a monster in his first 2 Houston years
@@TheIcemanthomas did I say 2014? I did say 2015 right?
who's here after the lakers advanced to the NBA Finals? Howard played well in that Nuggets series.
Prime Dwight was a freak of Nature.Very fast ,very strong. He holds the record for bench press in Nba also the highest vertical reach point ever touched by an Nba player.Except Wilt there was never an athlete like Dwight.Sad that injuries , lack of confidence, lazyness and the evolution of game changed his career for the worst. Also some ball hoging teammates didnt help. His first 2 years in Houston are very underrated.Carried them into 2 playoffs until Harden decided to hog that ball and it was never the same for Dwight.
record for bench press sounds suspect. ever heard of Karl Malone?
@@AJHighlights67 ?
@@AJHighlights67 use your brain big man dont dominate the game anymore in this era but he did it anyway
4:40 ahh the rare "fade away dunk". He was a fucking beast
He said Powell not Howard.
That little spinning left hook was unguardable. Why he stopped using it so much, i have no clue. Even without an advance post game, there was no reason why Howard shouldn't have been able to score atleast 26 ppg.
Eddie Thomas I feel like the success of that shot relied mainly on his athleticism. After he messed up his lower back, the shot probably wasnt as effective.
I think it has to do with the lack of elevation in those hooks now and he's not as confident
Came here after todays game to see his old highlights, prime Howard is something else
same man, he was a beast and now a champion thanks to me btw
He was only 25 he was so young and had so much left he was so good at such a young age like he lead the magic the finals in 2009 at only age 23 years
Who’s here after Dwight’s redemption performances with Lakers.
Who’s here after hearing that Dwight wants to come and play for the Lakers again?
There's something about the Orlando Magic that they had great big guys in the court. Shaq.. Howard..
Somewhere in the hood if u guys think about Orlando had a lot of great players the problem is why they trade em every damn time??
Then they give them to lakers..
Somewhere in the hood their first All-Star since Dwight was a center lol (Vucevic)
Well didnt the Orlando Magic hire Patric Ewing ? And you are right they had Tobias Harris I know he plays the forward spot, but he was looking big and strong, they've had Aron Gordon who got robbed out of his dunk championship, and then they had Vucevic his game came out nice, seems like they know how to train big guys. Of course then you had Shaq and Dwight Howard.
they didnt fail tho..brought them to two finals.Unfortunately they met some HOF level basketball players like olajuwon and kobe
Seeing him go against old shaq is just awesome for some reason. He wasn't going to be a 28 and 15 guy like shaq wanted. He was arguably the best lob finisher and shot blocker ever . Still deserves the superman nick name for that.
True
💯%
Congrat for getting champion!!!
The beast~~
This was the reason why Dwight was my all-time fave player, including his goofiness lol.
Dwight prove still help his team to win a chip.. LAKERS CHAMP 2020 DWIGHT THANK YOU
howard 7" and big baby 6'1"

Big babyy is 6'9 or 6"10
Howard 6'10 in shoes
@@TheMonkeyButte what's the joke? Lol
this is how a real big man should play like. pretty sure Davids won't stand a chance against this guy at his prime
you know how monster you are at the center position when youve been passed the ball and all the 5 players from the opposing team comes to you
This is how a center is supposed to play. 2011 Howard is one of my favorite players
I miss this Howard. After joining L.A Lakers, his performance dropped by a lot. He was good in Houston but I can tell that he really loves being in Atlanta and seeing how he is performing gives me the hope that he is going to unleash the old beast in himself again.
4 yrs after the back injury i hope the magic howard is back ! and btw that dennis and howard pick n roll are kinda scary
alvin ibera Now it's gonna be Kemba and Howard
Yogen Grg lol
Hope he loves Charlotte now
Lol what a rollercoaster it's been, sad really.
Years after he can still dominate the paint with the right minutes .. damn you Vogel
I wish he was still in The League not as a player but as a Mentor/Advocate for other players that plan on playing The Center position in the League
I always felt from 09-12 Dwight at the height of his powers was the most unstoppable NBA player. Physically, he was unstoppable down low, offensively and defensively and won 3 consecutive defensive mvp awards.
When you realize this guy was actually 6’10 and doing this on 7 footers 😳

He is having a Excellent season with Charlotte this season for real...
he put those arm sleeves back on this year and he winning mvp
now in 2020 looking back at him in 2010, this dude is a beast and one of the most loved guys in the league, too bad the magic did a bad job in building a team around him
What the fuck
The magic built a great team around him
They got to the finals
The Magic was intentionally building a team around him though
Thanks for showing both defensive and offensive highlights!
As his career goes on, he is becoming underrated.
Back then the magic where always on National tv now I can’t think of the last time they where
I love prime Dwight Howard. Strong, quick and can shake you off.
i don't Cousins can defend prime Dwight. And i believe prime Dwight can bother Cousins defensively
Random cousins ain't even a a defensive player, so that's pretty much an understatment
陈俊峰 Cousins is a great player, he can be really one of the greatest the problem is behavior when he lose his mind start doin shit
陈俊峰 he could not make it in 2017 with antony davis and holiday
SumThing81 Mind game is also a big part of the game.
@陈俊峰 ikr
Who's here after the news
my first favorite player ngl
I think we usually get the MVP award right, but this is the one time this decade (so far) where I feel we gave it to the wrong guy. Dwight was a monster.
Are you saying Derrick Rose wasn't the MVP? You're *insane*. Dwight's team was crazy good, a bunch of really good players and even a good bench. Rose carried a team of mediocre role players with the second and third scoring options being the decading Boozer and Deng, and Noah who was a beast sure, and he made them play unreal good basketball and he was REALLY effective and made them get W's and that's what it's all about.
@@mcfuckinanotheraccount808 LeBron and Howard had better numbers. And the Bulls were a defensive powerhouse; Rose carried the load offensively, sure, but their defence was what separated them.
@@Eagzv9 That's exactly why Rose was so amazing, carried a bunch of defensive minded role players offensive. Bulls' offense was what Rose got them
'role players' - one of those 'role players' turned into a defensive player of the year.
@@Eagzv9 as i said, they had great defenders. Noah was a monster on the boards and defense, but never a scorer. Rose's season was amazing because he was their ENTIRE offense.
Also, an elite defender who only defends but doesn't score much is arguably a role player nonetheless, even if he wins DPOY. Look at Andre Roberson, dude's elite on defense but a role player nonetheless.
In 2k12 my career he was a pain to face in the ECF. But it was always a showdown My heat vs his Magic
after watched 2020 WCF 1st round, Dwight bring me back to see this
Orlando was the perfect fit for him. He put LeBron and them out in 2009. He could've done it again. Wish he would've stayed and they built around him a few more years. Dang...
Last of his kind centers, dying breed #DH12
Yo I’ve been saying this for years Dwight never really fell off he just had some years where he played through an injury. He should have sat out the year he play with the lakers when he BROKE his back. Man only missed like 6 games that year and still averaged a double double and made the all star team. And was top 5 in rebounds and blocks that season. People only hated on him because the lakers lost because Kobe and all the other guys got hurt by the playoffs. I wish people would stop being so naive to stats and stop believing rumors.
I Hope D Howard will watch this to regain his confidence! He a beast man.. Now he just got to boost it up.
Come back here in 2020 and hoping Howard can play like this in the NBA final 2020
I don’t care Dwight is still a great center
How was this man not named one of the top 75 players?!! The disrespect 🤦🏽♂️
Hope this prime Dwight and this team will be included in the next NBA 2k.
Old school power center. The superman😎
Howard was a man among boys in that era in the league
from todays prespective , he got so many chances to kick out ball to the perimeter omg , always few wide open shooters staying on 3pt line
This dwight will eat Embiid for breakfast, Giannis for lunch and Jokic for dinner.
Good memories my favorite player
This dude used to be my favorite player even as a laker fan i liked his physical big man game over kobe. Was excited as hell when he was traded but obviously didn't end well.

Definitely got robbed before his injury in 2012 he was the best center in the league. Just imagined what he could have been I truly believe he could of been better than shaq
Best big man of the 2010s ✋ s dnw

I'm just gonna say it , for too long I just seen Dwight as some random but then I payed
(not sure if I spelled that right) attention to every thing he does and he's a f****** beast - no a machine that is in my opinion a whole top 5 center/power forward easily

This is when Dwight Howard was in The peak of His Young Career but then The Explosive Playstyle started to trend down during his tenure with The Los Angeles Lakers as well as any other Team
Perfect Highlight Tape for D12
one of the BEST!
Howard has always been stiff but once he hurt his back and lost flexibility and bounce, we began to see how limited his skill set really was.
I think calling prime Howard stiff is a little unfair. I would say his movement was a little mechanical, but he showed some signs of fluid play on offense. You are right about the injury taking away his explosiveness to a degree though. I just think Howard never had the talent to be a dominant offensive player. People underappreciated him in his prime because they always expected more. He was a three-time defensive player of the year and also won a lot of rebounding titles. That is domination on defense and the boards which is something that is more important for a center than even post-moves. Howard just lacked the coordination, agility, and touch to ever be at the level of Hakeem, David Robinson, and Shaq on the offensive end. Shaq was a brute, but he had a soft-touch around the basket, great footwork, and better vision than Howard ever possessed.
Nostalgic Bliss Orlando Dwight was his prime I think. Everything after that was kinda depressing. My point is, he may have been stiff when on the Magic, but he could get his head level with the rim at almost any time he wanted. That was never the case on the Lakers. In fact, I hardly ever saw the man jump off one foot after that injury. He seems locked into being a two-foot jumper now lol that would kinda mess with a ball players game if you think about it
A limited skill set... I never understood this logic... How many NBA centers can spin left or right, shooting with either the left or right hand 🤔.... How many PLAYERS in the NBA can get where they want, when they want. Howard was unguardable... The NBA just became guard dominant he should've never played second fiddle to Kobe.
@@nostalgicbliss5547 idk
Prime Dwight had excellent agility and touch around the rim, able to spin both sides
Sure he wasn’t Hakeem but he still had very good offense
