Dwight Howard misses this Old Skill play of Basketball. It was gradually changing as as More 6'9" to 7'O" guys were coming that could dribble, post, zone and play the wing while guarding a wing man. James, Durant, Davis and Dirk. During this time. I was 17 in 1995... WoW! The memories, but this how they won games in the paint. Driving or posting. Today it's 3 point shooting that favors a versatile big man/center that can do what a skilled forward can do.

Amazing thing is he still does his thing in the paint. Just because the game changed doesn't mean he had to. Absolutely dominated against the Nuggets, especially against Jokic and Plumlee. Rajon and Dwight are one of the greatest examples of why old school ball is still valuable today. Looking forward to some vintage Howard in the finals.

You might want to watch it again. Shaq dunked on him the first time he touches the ball. Shaq blocks Dwight the first time Dwight goes at Shaq. Dwight's first bucket is a jump shot and when he gets his first post score against Shaq with an up and under Shaq comes back and does the same with an and-1. Dwights next go at Shaq he is blocked again but a team scramble ends with Dwight getting a tip in under the hoop when Shaq was running up court expecting a steal. Next time Shaq goes at Dwight, Howard goes for a steal because he can't stop him and gives up a dunk and-1. Next time Dwight goes for a shot it's a foul on Shaq going straight up. Next time Dwight finally defends Shaq well keeping him far enough away for a jump hook that Shaq misses. Dwights only good defense on Shaq of the night. Shaq later gets an offensive rebound tip in over Dwight and that sums up them playing one on one against each other. So yes Shaq dominated one-on-one play against Dwight.

Teams just had more shooters and stretch 4's and 5's but players like Dwight were still highly valuable. Especially for defense and rebounding plus Dwight was already more of an effective scorer in the pick and roll so really there would have been zero issues with him transitioning his game later on.

I wish Dwight would take more after young Shaq then Olajuwon. That finesse stuff just ain't his style. He had way more potential as a rim runner and bruiser. I hated seeing that hook shot when he was in Houston

That stuff is gold, I love to see the Hakeem Workfood's in Haward.

Thats why I love Old NBA... Centers are pure defenders, not position stealers ❤️❤️❤️...
