As a result of this meltdown Frerotte got benched and a then-unknown Trent Green came in and nearly led the Redskins to a comeback victory, ended up starting the rest of the season and playing well for a bad team, then the Rams signed him to a big contract in the offseason and we all know what followed. So you can trace the whole Kurt Warner story back to this game.
LOL, he does look like Hulk Hogan, whether flexing like that or pointing after the pick-6! Madden was a treasure. You never knew what was going to come out of his mouth. I'll never forget his comment about the "baby bucket" in the SB against Denver. Then Summerall assumed that the mother and father buckets were married, LMAO.
Man having Pat and John do almost all our games back then....thought these days would never end.....boy I was wrong....but appreciate those days more now than ever
The good old days of football with Pat and John. Those great NFC battles with the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins, 49'ers, Bears etc.... I miss those days too.
Gus was a decent game manager in most games and pretty decent for a 7th round draft pick. Was this the game where we all found out Trent Green was a starting caliber QB? his madden rating for that season was 49 lol
He was an excellent offensive mind, he was very good at developing young players, but he was not detail oriented and his teams were soft, and not mentally tough.
Fassell should have gotten another NFL head coaching job. He wasn't a bad coach, but his teams lost playoff games that were horrible losses. The 1997 playoffs vs the Vikings and the 2002 playoffs vs the 49ers. Not to mention the horrible performance in SuperBowl 35. He kind of remindes me of Alliei Sherman the Gians head coach for most of the 60's. Not a bad coach, but never could win the big game to win a Championship. Fassell falls under this category.
That first interception if instant replay was around it looked like Conrad Hamilton didn't step out and fumbled out of the end zone. It was close. Great video by the way!
You know you're bad when you throw a pick 6 to Stray. Michael Strahan was the JJ Watt of the 90s. (except when LT was playing) Or should I say, JJ Watt is the Michael Strahan of the 2010s
Got to say I at least respect Ferotte for going all out and hurting himself in the process to stop that first interception from being a pick 6. So many QBs just stand there feeling sorry for themselves after throwing an interception like that.. At least Ferotte gave it his all afterwards
Man, poor Gus. 4 straight pass plays: INT - got shaken up on the play PICK 6 Sack Sack - out for game At least he didn't concuss himself headbutting the wall this time.
I thought Way was gonna have a longer more productive career. He was such a bulldozer and could catch some as well. The Virginia backfield of Way and Barber. Talk about a duo covering pretty much every strength u can have as a back . Combine them, and u literally have a RB God..lol
Norv Turner highly touted at the time but not a good coach. i remember he had a redskin rookie w/ the ball on the giants 10 or so and 5 seconds left and two timeouts. never a called a timeout to speak to the rookie about the last vital play....may be the game ferrotte knocked himself out banging his head on wall in end zone
Turner had a history of starting big contract players over more talented guys. Stanley Richard kept starting even after it was discovered he was never going to attempt to tackle on running plays. Got his payday and didn't feel he needed to play hard anymore. Kept Dana Stubblefield one the starting line up even thought Marc Boutte played better because Dana had a big contract. There were many other examples I have since forgotten because the Norv Turner era was so piss poor. Turner did have that one great season but I credit Snynder for that even though everyone else hates snynder. Snyder got aggressive and prodded the sleepy GM to actually sign some of those free agents who were Salary Cap cuts like Larry Centers who was very big that one year The Redskins made the playoffs under Turner. Snyder also went after Jeff George proving he sucked at talent evaluations but at least he put heart back in the organization. Too bad heart only goes so far, lack of brains gave us the Spurrier Era which made Norv Turner look like a great coach.
was this the game where Trent Green was scrambling down field and did a pump fake and accidentally threw the ball at the end of the game even though he was way past the line of scrimmage? That was the day we found out Trent Green was starting caliber who spent much of his career until that point as a 3rd string clipboard holder.
@@SillyGoose2024 He even went to a pro bowl... full disclosure, the guys elected to the Pro Bowl were turning it down in 1990's so scrubs ended up actually playing in it.
+David Meyer Actually the Redskins destroyed us the following year in week 2 50-21 in Giants stadium. they were actually pretty good in 1999. They lost to TB in the 2nd round in Tampa on a last second botched FG attempt if I remember correctly.
+David Meyer : I'm guessing Kirk "You Like That" Cousins doesn't do it for you either. Never will win a title like Eli Manning did but an improvement over many other QBs.

And in a uncoincidental twist of fate, Kurt Warner ended up signing to the giants later on lol.
Summerall: there's Strahan looking for the cheers
Madden: he looks like Hulk Hogan.
Dear god do I miss those two

Pat Summerall is my favourite Football announcer of all time. Madden gets the attention but Summerall was the best.

🤦🏻♂️ 1990s NFL on Sundays...when I was in my youth...miss these days...
I remember this game. Both teams were bad that year, but Redskins were worse. Strahan with the big pick six.
Giants finished 8-8
Giants weren't that bad. 8-8 and defeated the Broncos to end their perfection.

7:21 Jerry Lawler: "That's it, he's dead!"
Jim Fassell got a bad rep. He was a good coach, in my estimation, and made the MOST out of Kerry Collins, Amani Toomer, Tiki Barber, and Charles Way!
Idk how you meant the comment, but if you meant got the most out of them, then Tom coughlin is the guy who got the most out of tiki barber
Ellis Marcelle as a redskins fan we made a mistake not hiring him over jim Zorn

@@spaceghostvibes9712 That ranks up there with some of Snyder's worst decisions.

I think the tackle made him step out before he dove
I absolutely saw that. Maybe should have been a touchback?
Half this game couldn't happen in today's pussified NFL.
Strahan was straight ballin
You know you're bad when you throw a pick 6 to Stray.

Keith "hammer" Hamilton destroyed Gus at the end of the video.lol Gmen had Hammer, Strahan, Armstead, Bratzke, Sparks...etc Goodtimes!
Conrad Hamilton was a good CB.Also Tito Wooten,Percy Ellsworth,Corey Widmer.

Another year in the 90's of having a very strong defense wasted with an extremely poor offense.
That's why them ninjas get paid millions.. Gus earned every penny that day.

Bulldozers never last too long..look at Brandon Jacobs. And Tiki was top-level once he learned to protect the ball.
You mean like Saquon Barkley?
Way's knees wore out early
Back and neck injuries.
Yeah I felt he was on of the better fullbacks in the league, then I blinked and he was out of the league
Pretty smart play, Strahan faking a pass rush, then staying an covering the back coming out on cross curl. You rarely see that.
Giant's uniforms during the LT era were better. The differences were slight, but noticeable. Having "GIANTS" on the helmets was one.
I miss astro turf it looks so nice
