Review videos need to be more like this. He didn't give us his life story, moved pretty fast through the contents and feature while still covering everything. Concise without feeling rushed. When will you compare the nest camera & IQ?
Thanks Austin! I'm glad to hear you liked the review. We wrote a comparison of the Nest cameras smarthomesolver.com/reviews/nest-cam-iq-vs-nest-cam-outdoor-vs-indoor/ and maybe we will do a video of that soon.
I had this Yale Nest lock for at least a year. So many times I couldn’t get it to connect to Nest Connect. The last time it just wouldn’t connect, so I’m done with it. I bought the Yale Assure lock. It set up fairly easy although not on the first try, and so far after 2 months it’s not failed me. I especially like it opening the door when I arrive home. I hope to continue having good luck with this lock.
Also at first I hated having to hit the check after code unlike the Schlage I had prior but I realized people cannot guess the length of your code this way. With the Schlage all codes had to be the same length and after you enters 4 numbers the lock would error out telling someone your code is 4 digits long. I know it is rare for someone to guess the code but still, now they have no idea if it is 4, 6, or 8 numbers long.
That's true it's more secure not knowing the code length. I would just prefer the check mark to be optional after the correct code is pressed, that way it could still not give away how long the code is. Not a big deal, I'm just being nitpicky.
No toddlers were abandoned in the making of this video. Thanks for watching, everyone! If you have any questions, drop them below and we'll get a good discussion going. I realized later that the settings button on the lock can be used by first typing in the master code and press the settings button instead of the checkmark. Not sure why you would do that over using the app and why the voice prompt doesn't help with figuring this out.
Reed, This Video is Great, I Will show you how This lock works: [To enable Privacy Mode: Hold down the White Button for 5 Seconds, Until the Button Blinks Blue and responds *Privacy mode enabled* and the Button blinks Green Twice] [To disable Privacy Mode: Hold down the Button for Five Seconds, Until it beeps, Then the lock will respond *Privacy mode is off* Note: When One tries to Use the Keypad with Privacy Mode Enabled, The lock will respond a message *Please try again at another time* If you hear this, You may not use the keypad! Note: When the Lock's Batteries Are Low, Even when you use the keypad, The Keypad Will show a Red Low Battery Light, It will speak a Low Battery Warning, The Warning looks like this: *The battery is very low, Replace the battery soon* On the Nest App: It may show a Low Battery Status, If you wait too long, The Batteries will be Dead Completely! Don't worry! You can use the 9V Battery on the Terminals on the Bottom of the Lock!
Do you know if there is a way to allow access to only one of your Yale locks and not all of them? For example, I have them on my front door and garage. When I issue a code it works for both doors. However, I only want it to work for the Front door and prevent people from going in the garage.
@@miamiCubaDominicana I actually had to use to Nest Connects and link the garage door to one and the rest of the house to the other. I control the house and my wife has to control the garage. Only way we could get it to work. Seems like a great opportunity for Google to somehow allow you to provide access to just one door.
Nest Connect is like a small hub. There are actually some locks coming out that just work with Wi-Fi. Schalge Encode just announced one at CES. I tried it out at CES and I really like it. Check it out here ruclips.net/video/ZnfZYRrysDE/видео.html

Please advise recommendation for the keyed lock underneath the Nest X Yale. I want to prevent guests from locking themselves out and defaulting to a key. Thanks, good video. Keep them simple.

So, I understand I can remove the batteries to reset the lock but I am not sure if that's enough to lose control of the lock from the app we have installed. Your thoughts?

Can the lock be toggled using the physical knob/switch from the inside? It _looks_ like it should be able to be used by hand, but I'm curious if that grinds the electronically controlled gears.
+Jason Karns yes the lock can be opened from the knob inside. At 2:53 it's really fast but the lock is opened from inside. It's really easy to turn like a normal bolt lock.
If you manually unlock from the inside and walk out... Does it automatically lock after you walk out after a few seconds/minutes ?? My friends keypad lock does that and I really like that...
Hi Erik thanks for the comment. Yes it can automatically lock after a certain amount of time. Here is some more info on it. nest.com/support/article/How-to-change-Nest-Yale-Lock-s-settings-with-the-app#Auto-Lock
Does it give you a notification warning if someone is trying to "guess" the pin/password after a few attempts? Do you get the full feature or do you need a monthly subscription?
It will give you a notification after 5 failed attempts and then they would have to way 90 seconds to try again. You could turn on privacy mode at that point and they wouldn't be able to use the keypad anymore. You don't need a monthly subscription to use any of the features. Monthly subscriptions are only for Nest cameras.
Smart Home Solver another separate question. My door is 70mm (2.75") thick. From the documentation from Nest website, it seems to be limited to 44.5mm (1.75") thick door. Do you know if it is the mechanism (i.e. there is no way around this restriction) or simply longer screw bolt will still be able make it work?

I'm trying to understand all of these smart home locks. Why is a hub (Next Connect or Nest Guard) required instead of just using the wifi which is already in the house?
Also, what if you turn on privacy mode and you end up outside the home and your Internet or nest has an outage. Are you now locked out inspite of you having your smartphone with you ?

I have the issue where it says it can’t lock the door. I have a metal fire door and frame. Neither nest or Yale have offered a solution to fix it? It’s extremely annoying on my phone and when it says it. Sometimes it will lock without an issue, other times it won’t. Would love a solution!
Does this lock emit any sort of sound if someone say kicks the door or tries to tamper with the lock or door like the Schlage connect smart w/ alarm deadbolt
I am not sure about if someone kicks in the door like the Schlage connect but it seems like if someone is tampering with the lock it will sound an alarm and send a notification to your phone nest.com/support/article/FAQs-about-the-Nest-Yale-Lock#breaking-lock
what happens if an intruder is at the door with some time and wants to try multiple combinations? Some shut down for 5 of 10 minutes making multiple attempts impractical.
Is it resisted to a cordless drill with the titanium bit? Or even a hammer, by the looks of all that plastic. Also, as another commented, I would think one could see which numbers where touched frequently by looking for finger oil smudges. It looks pretty cool though.

Do you need to sign up for the nest aware to have some
Of the features?
Excellent review. First time watching one of your videos and it hit all of the key points and even answered all of my questions. Great job. You have a new subscriber my friend.
Thanks Wish Morgan that means a lot to me!
I have the issue where it says it can’t lock the door. I have a metal fire door and frame. Neither nest or Yale have offered a solution to fix it?
It’s extremely annoying on my phone and when it says it. Sometimes it will lock without an issue, other times it won’t.
Would love a solution!
Is it the same error message like 5:52 or a different one?
Can I use it ok my apartment ?
On the app I’m not getting lock are unlock also not giving me a way to set my code what can it be
Does this lock emit any sort of sound if someone say kicks the door or tries to tamper with the lock or door like the Schlage connect smart w/ alarm deadbolt
I am not sure about if someone kicks in the door like the Schlage connect but it seems like if someone is tampering with the lock it will sound an alarm and send a notification to your phone nest.com/support/article/FAQs-about-the-Nest-Yale-Lock#breaking-lock
Does it have a doorbell
How does the Hello compare to the Yale?
what happens if an intruder is at the door with some time and wants to try multiple combinations? Some shut down for 5 of 10 minutes making multiple attempts impractical.
Is it resisted to a cordless drill with the titanium bit? Or even a hammer, by the looks of all that plastic. Also, as another commented, I would think one could see which numbers where touched frequently by looking for finger oil smudges. It looks pretty cool though.
No lock is invincible; it's just a time factor.
Really great video. Detailed, yet straight to the point.
+Kira Lech thanks!
