Why should we pay for this when we can all play for free on Edo Pro and get all the cards we need instantly and immediately without having to grind through a Pokémon style adventure just to get some of the cards we need to be competitive? This is playing against you bank account and more cash for Komoney.
I've spent so many hours today grinding this game. I built fully realized Eldlich Trap Control for $0. The crafting system does so much to help this game. It's not like other games where you can only get rid of extra copies of a playset. If you own cards you don't care about? Get rid of em! Turn em into materials and just make whatever you want. Actually playing the game also just feels great. I'm not a huge fan of current Yugioh, but i'm just drawn in by the music and animations. Like MBT said, everything feels like it has weight to it. That adds SO much to the experience. TL;DR It's free. Give it a shot. Don't like it? Just uninstall it. No harm, no foul :)
And thats where an issue lies tho. I've spent 20k gems or so today, played for like 13 hours, didnt spend anything, yet I barely got any ultras in my packs. Which sure, fine, I got unlucky, go figure, its always the case, but the thing is that since the materials are split, I cant even craft URs if I wanted to since all I have is some SRs and just barely 5 or so URs (that I dont need that is, and the other ones got crafted)
@@DavrK were you only opening the master packs? I found from spending ~12k gems on secret packs today that I was averaging around 2-3 ultras / 10 pack lot.
Having played a number of gachas, I'm cautious about the output of gems just being a launch thing, but if it even only halves after launch, this is still a lot better than I feared.
one thing to note is just from playing ranked you can get 2700 gems as rank up rewards everytime the rank system resets, which is 27 packs which isnt bad, pair that with events they host and time based missions they may add and you get yourself alot of free gems even if the initial gems were alot to get people into it
The initial gem supply is big with single use missions and tutorial rewards. After those it's an absolute crawl, no where near half: we're talking a single digit percentage. If you reach the top comp rank you'd have near zero free income unless there is a feature I've missed.
@@CheckpointK but at this point you should have at least 2 really good decks built and all staples, cant really complain this is like 10000x better than scamlinks
It seems like at the very least you can always get a decent amount of legacy packs from ranked duels, and then turn everything you pull in them into craft points for steady trickle of new cards of your choosing.
I haven't played any modern yugioh but I tried master duel and really, there are a few more cool things: - Bundles. Even if the fully random packs aren't amazing, the 25% discount and free staple are neat to start a collection - Cosmetics are cheap. Like, the most expensive are the boards at 600 gems. That's the price of 6 packs. Even if you're F2P, you can get bling a bit. - Season pass doesn't require "paid only" gems or other bs. If you play a lot, you can basically get a bunch of extra rewards for free (costs 600, earns 600 total) - You can cancel most misclicks. In legacy of the duelist, if you selected to summon/set the wrong monster you were forced to go through and that was so annoying.
4:16 I'm upset at single-duel only ranked because without side decking you either have to cram answers to all sort of decks the opponent might use, or just hope your opponent isn't using a gimmicky deck that completely dominates yours just because you didn't want to add some Kaijus to counter that Crooked Cook BS I'm not saying that a having single-duel ranked ladder is bad, I just wanted a second ladder for best of 3 matches, so I can opt out of that kind of stuff when I want to
Hopefully Konami listen to all of the feedback and fix the banlist have different eras to duel in and matches fingers crossed because MD is actually quite good
I agree with this. This also hurts control decks like Altergeist, Kragen Control, Eldlich, etc that depend on going 1st and setting up a board. But with single duels, you not only get a disadvantage if you lose the coin flip, which is 50% likely that you do, but also if you lose the game, you lose the entire match instead of getting a chance to win in game 2 and possibly game 3 too. On top of this, it makes facing stronger decks like Swordsoul, Bird Up, etc harder to face since you never know what your facing until you start dueling, so that means that you can lose automatically if your deck is weak against a stronger meta threat or you don't have the outs to beat it. So this means you have to run the outs in the main which can hurt deck consistency. Plus bricking also ends up losing the match as well. So this is a huge problem. And also as you mentioned, FTK's also become a huge problem since you usually don't have the outs in main to deal with them. Master Duel does overall look and feel much better than the previous games and I had a lot of fun on it. Played for about 6-7 hours
I'm certainly a fan of the game thus far, but man we really need a fair banlist. The beginning of the game is being plagued by people playing 30 card decks after investing in 3 Upstart, 3 Chicken Game, 3 Pseudo Space, and a Terraforming, which you'd think would've been accounted for. Overall though, the cost is just like I expected it, once you have the hand traps and staples, you are set to go and hunt for archetypes.
Totally agree with the fun element. When I’m playing on Edo/Dueling Book, my face looks like this the entire time -_-… where during master duel (using the same decks) I felt like I was in the mode, having a fun time, it felt very back and forth and competitive and energizing. Lowkey felt like an anime protagonist
Why should we pay for this when we can all play for free on Edo Pro and get all the cards we need instantly and immediately without having to grind through a Pokémon style adventure just to get some of the cards we need to be competitive? This is playing against you bank account and more cash for Komoney.
@@fei-tzefu8527 because this can be liscensed by Konami and allow for official tournies to be run while you can play on your couch, have some chips and win a tournament from said couch?
@@fei-tzefu8527 You don't have to pay money to make a good meta deck or two. It'll definitly take a bit of grinding but you'll be able to make a complete deck after a day or two. It's also more enjoyable than edopro. It looks and feels wayyyy nicer, has a nice story mode, and has a ranking system unlike edopro.
To be honest I really just want secret packs to be a little more permanent. Like maybe it’s there for 24 hours, but if you do a 10 pull on it, it stays there. It sucks doing a few pulls before bed and getting an archtype you want to play
if you get sr/ur from the packs they update the time so thats "something" but yeah id prefer if they last a week/month instead of measly 24hours at least crafting an SR/UR from them also gives you the secret pack for 24hours def far from perfect but yeah
My one gripe with this crafting system is the fact that you can't possibly turn lower rarities into higher ones. I get why, because you get so many commons and rares, but still would've been nice to "upgrade" crafting points in any way.
I’ve played Master Duel a bunch since release. I think it’s very fun and well put together, with a lot of really weird mechanics they don’t tell you! (Did you know? If you generate a SR card or higher with a secret pack, you unlock that secret pack! They do not tell you this.) The bigger thing for me is how accessible it is for people who have no idea what’s going on. I’ve managed to get 3 people with minimal to 0 YGO experience to pick up Master Duel already, and they’re all genuinely having fun. The animations are fun and having so many cool cards makes them really excited to keep playing and build stuff. Plus it plays well. The game could definitely use a lot of work still, but I think this is a fantastic starting point for the game. Hopefully it takes off with the public.
The thing about secret packs Im OK with, is the fact you can unlock them all so fast. I have 99-100 already unlocked after 1 day. The banlist tho needs some work, or just allow the TCG format separate from OCG because fuck Maxx c, vanity's, and VFD
Umm bro the secret packs will go away after 24h, I hope you only unlocked secret packs you actually wanted... Me for example I unlocked thunder roar to build my thunder dragon stuff and also some random ass packs for decks that I will never use or care like s-force (ass force cause they suck ass)
This video surprised me in a very profound way. When I see an MBT video upload, I usually have to wait til my kids are in bed or I have my earbuds in before watching and listening. This was an amazing video, like many others, but one I could watch with my kids and get the warm and fuzzy about my kids watching it to see if they would like to learn the game. 100/10 probably my favorite MBT video.
The pack opening, while initially frustrating that you can’t play your favorite deck, is extremely fun, rewarding, and kinda feels like you are opening a pack in real life. It’s super fun and addicting
That's the point of it. You need to have fun spinning/opening box so you get addicted and spend more money on it. Why do you think they front load lots of gems or in-game currency in video games? The answer is to make you start spinning/opening box/loot box asap. Opening loot boxes will give you that dopamine rush. You get so much in the first week of playing and then after that there is nothing. Grinding currency becomes too slow that it will leave that itch in your brain that wants to continue opening boxes. Then you so slowly implement limited time packages, boxes, etc. A guy spends $10 a week for 5 loot boxes or items? Drop a special package available once a week for $15 with 10 loot boxes or items! You save $5! From $10 a week now you are spending $15 a week! That is how they get you. And then you release a package 2 for $20! You save even more money! Now you are spending $20 a week! Now you'll have withdrawal symptoms. most players will quit or already quit by this time but it doesn't matter because they are not your target audience. Your target audience are the whales. The ones will keep dropping $$$ on your game. Gotta keep them addicted to it.
Love this game, I was able to fully build code talkers in 2 hours and I'm now learning combos. I don't really play ygo but this game is the push I need to get into the game.
As a person who's played both tcg and ocg I can tell you: this feels a bit too much like last year's ocg format. Which... wasn't very good. Actually, ocg format has been quite hard to enjoy for the last year or so, hence why I'm hoping they will implement a way to play actual tcg/ocg formats instead of... whatever they're planning to do here. I really have no other complaints tho, the game's great
@@SuperRedNovaDragon tbf, it has some differences, but they're mostly minor ones, resulting in a format that's nearly identical to the one coinciding with last year's vw's last hurrah in the ocg. I don't remember the exact date of the banlist, but I'm sure you get me
@@riccardomartina9517 yeah, they have a habit of doing that like with the link evolution game, they released it with an outdated F&L list and abandoned the game. Which doesnt give me confidence that theyll stick with this.
@@riccardomartina9517 but I hope they do update the game soon and give us more formats to play. I personally dont like the modern format besides playing shaddolls.
@@SuperRedNovaDragon well, I'm more optimistic in that regard. They've clearly invested A LOT in this game, and still are, which gives me hope that they'll at least try to make improvements over time
interesting thoughts, though what is definitely missing in the picture of packs/card aquisition is the fact that you are not dependant on pulling from the 3 base packs to unlock secret packs - you can just craft any archetype-related SR or UR and it will unlock the secret pack it is contained in. this makes it very easy to invest into one specific deck, as that secret peck tends to have most of the archetype-specific cards the deck needs; at least as far as i can tell so far.
Yeah I crafted a thunder dragon and unlocked the thunder roar secret pack, after spending 6000 gems or something I had a full chaos thunder deck just missing a few URs like melody that I will get tomorrow, note: I only played for 1 and a half hour, my friend played for 5 hours and he already has a full pendulum magician endymion deck with accesscode and all that stuff, now he is working on getting more staples like nib and gamma
I love it, my only gripe is they completely neglected to think about phase effects like Multirole and Shizuku activating and resolving as the player wants. Instead they force you to activate one or the other. Same thing applies to Eldlich or Weather Painters during the end phase or standby phase respectively. Sent in a ticket and hoping they fix this soon but otherwise 9/10 for sure.
I already get the feeling MD may run into the TCG problem of “staples are super expensive but cores are cheap”. How bad of a problem it will be will have to be seen but considering almost of all of the good staples are UR makes me think it will be quite a big issue.
The thing is, i feel as if that the crafting system circumvents that issue entirely. Because you can just craft whatever staple you want that you're unlucky enough not to pull, and just dismantle whatever you don't want.
@@gspandem1204 yep, unless konami decides to make staples cost more than 30 UR tokens to craft (although it is definetely possible lol), a staple costs at most 3 times as much as the cheapest UR
yeah but I also think staples has such high rarities is because you can put them in every deck, also it would be somewhat annoying that everyone can access those staples if they where low rarities, and crafting those cards is a good alt for those who wants gain access to it as a medium
I mean you're not wrong, but unlike real life you don't have to Scholl 80+ dollars for a single card and you can just slowly grind away at all the staples for free. Also you can play super duper combo decks like drytron which don't play a lot of hand traps because they just want to combo
I've been having fun with Master Duel so far. I'm even try to build my irl Dragunity Deck in the game. Currently short a few Handtraps that I'm playing in the list but otherwise I was able to complete the whole Extra Deck and haven't paid a cent.
I really like Master Duel. I am pleasantly surprised with how they handled the "gacha" elements of it. I never felt like I needed to spend money to get a whole deck
The big thing people are driven away by in a b01 format is the future metagame. I think a lot of people were expecting this game to be representative of the current TCG/OCG format. Instead, there's this weird dated banlist with decks like Numeron OTK and Crooked Cook being near the top for no good reason.
I'm prrrreeeetty sure Astral Kuriboh isn't even in the game. Just Right-Hand Shark isn't really an issue imo. And since Master Duel uses a custom banlist, I really don't see a world where Crooked Cook doesn't get banned by the time Astral Kuriboh releases
The random banlist choice is also a problem to me. Maybe they will adapt with the possibility to choose between different format, maybe GOAT ?? If we can just play TCG and no OCG format one day it will be a real level up for the game
I really, really hope they add different formats. I'm not that into modern Yugioh, but Master Duels is just way more fun than Duelingbook. If they add Goat and make the older Boosters easier to get to, I think they could gain a really loyal, stable playerbase.
The crafting system is insane in how fair and great it is, in just a couple hours of playing i managed to make a fully actualized dragonmaid deck that's full of UR's without spending a penny. Ur's and SR's are incredibly common to get from the packs you buy (i was usually getting around 4 or 5 for every 10 packs i bought sometimes more). My only complaint is that while easy for an experienced player like me, i could see it being an issue where someone who's never touched or hasn't touched yugioh in years just won't know where to begin with ideas like net decking.
unfortunately my drop rates for UR's hasn't been that good lol. I've gotten the 1 per 10 packs minimum so far. Edit: actually i did do a 10 pack opening and didn't get any so there's also that
It tells you what’s guaranteed for each 10 pack you buy so don’t always expect a UR As for the original comment you are correct. I was able to build domain monarchs super easy and used it to level up and complete missions to be able to open backs. Working on 2 additional decks now and with all the extra packs bought the crafting speeds it up so well. All at $0 spent
I think that the coolest thing it happened to me yesterday was seeing people posting in a group chat about how much they were excited for master duel. Like, this really feels like it could be a second wind for ygo, one of my friends on his own (being a super casual duel links player) managed to build a sort of competent toon deck, which while it may not be a meta contender it's still a working and playable strategy. Another friend of mine pulled shuraig and just loved its artwork and now I'm scrambling to find a decklist for Tri brigade that's simple enough for him to get into the game. I really hope this game does well
I respect Master Duel. I won't be playing it as Konami takes enough of my money. Edit: For the record, I do think that it's a great product to have and like MBT said, it finally puts Yu-Gi-Oh on the same E-sports scene as MTG arena and PKM online. A high fidelity, first party simulator is a must have for TCGs these days. I'm sure there will be some players who switch to completely digital collections and I respect that. I won't be one of them though. As for the price, it's rather fair, and for free-to-play and that's crucial. Our closest comparison is duel links and crafting system here is a perfect balance. So, while I will play it here and there it won't be my main way to play Yu-Gi-Oh.
konami doesnt have to take any of your money though, like mbt pointed out people (including myself) played for a few hours and ended up with a meta relevant deck that can do well (such as bird up or sky strikers) so keep that in mind when you try playing it that you can actually play without a penny and still use a good deck
3:20 you can also get a key to unlock the pack by chance during card crafting I crafted 3 Rare Deskbot 03 and got the key for it's set so it doesn't need to be an SR 3:46 the time limit for the secret packs resets whenever you get another key for it as well
Actually they are very dedicated the problem is that you aren’t guaranteed to get the srs and urs from the archetype. However they did put strong cards in the rare and normal slots which is really nice
@@codyfeasts7196 Tried to get some SR Dinosaur cards, what did I get? Heckin' Nordic lol Yeah I can craft them, but I had rather wished for a Dino SR..
Minor, minor point, but the card images that you put on your profile are unlocked through the Solo Mode, which I found to be relatively fun compared to Duel Link's tutorial and loaner deck system. There's an actual set-up for card lore before you start firing duels, and multiple rewards unlock if you do repeat playthroughs of the solo content with your own deck. With the aforementioned "game-feel" that you touch upon in the video, it's a pretty pleasant time! I'm definitely liking the game beyond all the silly pack confusion.
It took me 6k gems (plus 1k from missions for finding secret packs) to build a functional dogma invoked shaddoll deck. I'm still missing stuff like hand traps but those 6k gems took me like 2 hours to get. The frontloaded wave of gems you get in this game is very generous, I'm just hopeful it keeps being reasonably generous past the point of having done all the lifetime missions and solo mode. Also GREAT to see you're half done with the battle pass thing in one day, I played more solo than online so didn't get as much progress but seeing that it's a grind at your own pace kinda pass rather than do these dailies for 3 months to complete it and don't miss a day (looking at you MTGA). Currently this game is closer to Legends of Runterra than MTGA for me. MTGA is a toxic economy for building decks (it's designed around set collection while 80% of sets are draft chaff). Legeneds of Runterra is a straight up system of pay $30 get a deck which is amazing. The 7k gems I spent on DIS is like $128 so not great BUT the initial wave of gems, if used well, mean you can get a meta deck and some staples without spending anything. It's a shame the store is full of bait products that are a huge waste of gems. Also HERO decks are insanely expensive because they're all URs and spread over 3 sets X.X
There is one critical thing that is missing from master duel and that is a board testing area like edopro's. For now solo duel against bad ai checks this purpose but a more controlled testing area where you can reset the game at the press of a button, cherry pick your hand and your opposite side's hand, or even being able to take cards you don't own to this testing area so you can try before you commit would be really helpful.
On the note of the cost, I totally agree that the free to play is very viable. I went the route of farming as much solo content as I could before I started hitting a wall with how difficult the story opponents were with the default starter deck, and by the time I hit that wall, I had enough gems to get all the packs of the blue eyes synergy secret pack to build a really bomb blue eyes deck, minus a few very unnecessary XYZ monsters. (note: I did have to do some disassembling and assembling to get there, but you get free materials for doing each of those the first time anyway so you should) Following assembling that deck, I was able to clear out a ton more story stuff and get started on climbing ladder to get those rewards as well.
I'm loving it so far, I got a full tri-brigade core by accident while trying to get some dogmatika cards. Just want to say, Blue-Eyes Alternative is not the only monster card art you can use, I managed to unlock Eldlich somehow...couldn't tell you how, but it was a mission reward. I'm guessing there is more but the missions might be hidden until you complete them.
The banner pull packs are just meant to unlock secret packs, then if you want to complete a deck you buy from the secret pack for that. E.g. Stalwart has the UR/SR of many good archetypes, you get one then you do a 10 pull on the secret pack for that , etc.
I started playing this morning and within a few hours, and only having spent like, $30 for a few extra gems, and I already have a pretty badass hero deck built Malicious Bane, Sunrise, Cross Crusader, really all I'm missing is a DPE but that's only because it's not in the game. Had to convert a few cards to fill it out but regardless, $30 is a lot cheaper than the $300 you'd be spending irl. Been playing a bit here and there throughout the day and I'm already on my way to a decent Invoked core.
So, contrary to what you said about the secret packs, I a tally love the rabbit hole you go to when opening these pack. I think it is very ingenious compared to the basic "find a box from the selection and go from there." It honestly feels like a treasure hunt, and I like that aspect a lot. Sure, the packs would expire in 24 hours, but it also gives a sense of "urgency" with trying to find the right cards in the amount of time.
The "placeholder" mates are both silly and awesome. The car for example is so out of place, yet at least has a small animation when you tap on it during a duel. The rollers tho, they are totally static with no animation whatsoever. Can't wait for the sweet potato skull servant and moai to be added
I really just hope there a lot of good guides coming out of the community for this. I want to get into Yu-Gi-Oh, but I don't know how to deckbuild it and so many decks have a lot of options
I played for like two hours last night and was able to put together a VW list pretty much identical to the one I own in paper, so I'm pretty happy about that.
On the Blue-Eyes background, I don't know about you but I got the Eldlich background in like the first 5 hours of gameplay. I forgot how but there's certainly ones you can get, for instance lvl50 of the pass gets you the Construct one if I recall correctly
As a longtime fan of the game but not a real player since Zexal started, I really appreciate this online platform. It’s easy to use and understand and it’s slowly getting me back into playing. Even with scary Pendulum and Link cards that I’ve never used before
one thing to note, not every card is fully released, and I don't mean the cards only available in OCG at the moment. For example, we still don't have the cards that debuted in burst of destiny even though they debuted in OCG 6 months ago, and came out in tcg not too long ago. I'm sure this game will get updated to include them. Also the banlist the way it is might be because it just came out and konami is trying to make sure the game is working fine and then release more features. We know different formats will be happening and this might happen pretty soon.
Thus far, ive really liked it, i managed to build a pure drytron deck (diviner is expensive) in like 3 hours, and mever did i felt i was wasting time or bored, so overall a fun game.
After playing it for probably about 5-6 hours total today I gotta say it’s definitely addicting, didnt jump into ranked at all cause I just got unlucky with my pulls when going for shaddoll but even just doing the solo duels they were interesting and it’s neat to play a different deck you don’t HAVE to work for. The packs are something I wish weren’t time locked though, would be so much better if they just made them permanently available and actually spread the cards out in different ones. Definitely agree on it being unfinished though, switch version feels pretty unoptimized at points with the load times being a bit longer than I’d like and seeing freezes when going to new menus is not something I like to see, and there are some things that were pretty heavily advertised, but really seem like they don’t have a whole lot put into them like they said like the solo mode lore about the archetypes, it’s neat but really leaves a lot to be desired. And didn’t they say it was supposed to support both tcg and ocg formats? Feels really weird that it’s only ocg for a worldwide release, neat opportunity to actually try it but it feels weird with it being the only one. It’s still got some work to be done on it, but for what it is this is a really great starting point.
The thing with the secret packs is that you can just craft a sr or ur of an archetype and you get access to that secret pack right then and there. So it’s literally a non issue if you just craft something, even more so if your gonna go for it anyway. And yeah, agree with it it being unfinished, more for your reasons then mbt’s.
I came into this game not having played YuGiOh seriously since 2010 and with only a very basic understanding of anything that released after 2012. As such, I figured I’d go ahead and build a deck that I was at least familiar with and I figure could get me some early success: Inzektors. I can’t really blame anyone but myself for my lack of ranked success, but it really does highlight what I feel about the game nowadays: it’s just so complex. I’m coming in with a basic understanding of fundamentals but a lack of knowledge of the last 10 years and it’s overwhelming. Half the time whenever my opponent plays a card I just look at it and go ‘This is a paragraph; I don’t want to read this,’ and this is every card in a full combo. It doesn’t help that my very first opponent in the bottomest of bottom ranks was a full-power Sky Striker deck. I made the decision to build something I was familiar with instead of what was good, and I feel like I’m already gated out to an extent. And this is from someone who sort of knows the game: I can’t help but wonder if new players have it worse. I think part of the frustration is the disparity between how highly the game values certain cards and how strong they actually are. Dragonfly and Exa-Beetle are Ultras and Hornet, Zektkalibur, Allure, DAD, and Giga-Mantis are Supers, but that deck is so much weaker compared to anything else I’m playing against, while not being much less expensive. The game almost feels a little deceptive in how much it values cards and strategies which clearly aren’t going to help you climb very high. Which is why I really want them to add alternative formats, so that players who want to play their old favorites, or just off-meta, have a place to do so without wasting all their resources. Just my ramblings, I guess.
I really hope they change something about the secret pack unlock system. Obviously a gacha is going to be predatory by design, but purposefully inducing FOMO by giving a strict 24 hour clock (that you can only extend, not get rid of) to every pack is especially so.
I'm honestly so worried about Konami shutting down DB and YGOPro and the like right after this comes out. Seems like just the natural thing to do to protect your multi-million dollar investment from competitors that offer the same exact service, using your IP, for free. Not sure how progression series/playoffs stuff would even be possible then, except using a service like Cockatrice, and old formats would be hit really hard. Especially worrying for Mac users.
They won't. DB and YGO pro don't have a huge audience. An official sim has a different draw to it than a fanmade one simply because more players will notice it.
@@luminous3558 I wouldn't be so sure, especially since it would be trivial for Konami to threaten them into shutting down their servers, and *especially* especially since they took down Dueling Network
honestly it might happen but only because people spam offical channels/forum/chats/comments with "GO PLAY X INSTEAD ITS FREE AND YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING" I think if there wasnt those people it be 0% chance they be shut down but the more they spam the more chance konami strikes it On positive side they did mention that they want old formates for the game so hopefully we get stuff like goats as event+more customizable duel rooms sooner rather then later
There is one thing about the secret pack I think you missed- I believe if you craft an SR/UR of an archetype, you get to immediately unlock it in the shop? It means you can kind of choose whenever you want to turn on a pack, and crafting like 1 of an SR you need 3 of probably means you won't pull dead on it
I agree. Nice game and fun so far. Walked with a Tri deck and just need to craft some handtraps, which can be frustrating. Before a final verdict I would wait a week to see how long term motivation and also mission rewards will look like.
I also thought at first the 24h duration was meant to pressure you into buying gems, but actually every time you buy a pack the timer resets. Not only that, but every time you craft a SR or better from that pack it also resets the timer, or unlocks it for another 24h if you had it expire already.
For what it is, it's a really good game. It came out at a great time because January never has a whole lot going for it and with YCS events getting cancelled it gives players something else to do besides Remote Duel and maybe locals. Once it releases for mobile, I wouldn't be surprised to see it have actual tournament support and have a spot at WCQs. I'm a little upset that the Legacy of the Duelist game didn't get more support like a current card pool or Limited Lists, but I feel like the developers will be spending more time with this game to do so in order to make it more fun and enjoyable. Overall, I don't feel like this project was too rushed and I'm looking forward to seeing what future developments get implemented.
I played a bit today just to check out the features and so far I'm enjoying it. My biggest worry is that I'm absolutely terrible at deck building (for any CCG really), so the fact that you can seek out and copy public deck lists is a huge plus for someone like me who is terrible at memorizing cards and combos and couldn't put a good deck together if their life depended on it.
@@jofx4051 True, but with the Public Deck mechanic in the game I can copy the decklist and it'll show me what all cards I still need to obtain if I don't already have the cards. If I had a butt ton of cards already for a deck, yeah, using an internet decklist would work as well.
I like it a lot so far. I'd say my main problem with the game is due to my personal experience with yugioh as a whole. As a player who is returning I am kind of lost with what cards I should be going for in pack openings. It's a little stressful going into a free to play game not knowing where to spend your points. Other than that the solo mode is fun and the tutorials are really helping ne to understand some of the modern yugioh stuff that has always seemed intimidating. Time and cost has always been a huge factor preventing me from getting back into the game but the way this game is makes it feel slightly more doable.
The Secret Packs are really weird, even more so than you'd think; they ALSO have the 6,750 cards in them like the Master Pack does, just weighted so the cards in that archetype are more likely to be pulled. Really weird opening a Blue-Eyes pack and pulling a Linkuriboh. That being said, it does seem to be somewhat more accessible than Legacy of the Duelist is, especially being "free." Considering my knowledge of the game stops right before Dark-Armed Dragon came around, the fact that I can get into it and start understanding things beyond "hey, I remember that card from a Duel Logs video" or "heh, I pulled a Kalut" without much issue.
Just a PSA, you can also unlock the secret pack by dismantling specific cards tied to specific secret packs. Examples would be if you create chamber dragonmaid you'd unlock the dragonmaid secret packs
Bugs in the Endphase …you can’t choose the order of effects. In striker you can’t do the shizuku Anker roll combo, because the game wants roll to activate first, and if you click no, it does not activate again, if the opponent is not doing anything, but if he does the combo works. Also the opponent is first to activate his cards in the endphase, while you are the turn player…that is strange
Been playing for 3-4 hours now, got a functioning Melodious list and I am having a blast. The summoning method animations really liven up all of what's going on, and the fact that it's not 100% meta (yet) is really helping my casual side. I'm having to figure out ways around fucking Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon. Not Chaos MAX, just... Chaos. It's great lmao
You can definitely build a full deck of whatever you like with the starting resources free. The problem is once you get through those starting freebies and the better non-repeatable lifetime missions, you have basically no free gem sources. It's pretty much just the battle pass (1000ish for the entire thing) and competitive rank ups (100 each, difficult and limited supply).
Not to immediately disprove one of your con talking points but you unlock monster art banner thingies from either missions or doing the Solo Mode or missions related to the Solo Mode as I have been doing Solo Mode basically all day and have an Eldlich Monster Art banner available to me.
My biggest disappointment is that there’s no in-game AI to test against, or for solo/casual players. Back in the Tag Force days I’d spend hours building decks and testing them against each other. People say that an AI would be too complicated to code but like I said, Tag Force did it (and you can’t tell me the advent of Links somehow makes this impossible). Even Duel Links has something similar in The Vagabond (though you can’t choose his deck). If I could ask for one thing from this game, it would be an AI that I can just have fun with when I don’t feel like sweating on ladder
It's just not as nearly same experience against people in DUEL and in SOLO at all, it will just overwhelm new players and returning players Surely better have AIs with every single modern deck in deck like in WCS games and the game you said too
Honestly having a great time with Master Duel. I played for a few hours today and made Striker, Blackwings, and Monkey Flip for the low cost of no dollars. Honestly surprised that I had such a good time despite being out of the game since TOSS format.
I am amazed at how good it is. Konami, as we all are painfully aware, does so many things completely half-assed. Looking at their previous Yu-Gi-Oh games, such as Decade Duels and Legacy of the Duelist, they were just terrible. It was nearly impossible to actually build a deck that was something even remotely competent. With Master Duel, there's a really good way to play, both for experienced players, but even more importantly, new players. Structure decks are so bad that a potential new player might pick one up, then go to a local and get absolutely smashed by some guy who jerks himself off for five minutes setting up ten negates, and then just never play again. Now they can actually make solid decks without having to spend a ton of money. Plus the tutorial is actually pretty good for learning how to play.
@@jofx4051 remember the game has been out for a day it's going to take a while for the meta too settle and the ranks will look more like how you think then tier 1 decks in like rookie rank
I definitely love this game. The only thing I would say is, maybe give us the option of which format we want to play, be it tcg, ocg or goat. It only being in ocg is a little hard to get used to.
My strategy for F2P so far has been to build a really cheap Utopia deck using three structures, then using that deck to grind gems. Then I’ll figure out what deck I wanna play for realsies (still deciding) and then spending all my gems on that deck in one go. Because the Secret Packs are only available for 24 hours, it makes sense to figure out what you wanna play before hand, craft an SR from the set you need and then just use all your gems in one take, crafting as you go. As it is, I really like this so far. I wasn’t completely F2P in Duel Links (I’m no whale, but I’d buy packs every now and again) and the real game is obviously the most expensive, but Master Duel feels really cheap so far and I love it.
Hey I somehow got the Eldlich art for your background and game but dunno how. So its possible just not clear enought how to get it. I can see why a lot of people feel like the packs are predatory. But if you pull a card thats SR or higher the timer resets, or the next day maybe you can just craft an SR or higher and the pack will apear again. The biggest positive for the game is after 12 hours as f2p I build full power sky striker and full power adamancipator. And thats crazy to me.
I will agree with the bizarre pack system point. It feels weird to open up Master Packs and realize my Ultra Rare was some second string boss monster from some long abandoned archetype from 5D's, I just kind of look at it and go, "What, YOU get the fancy glowing animation?"
The look and feel being good is good, but the honeymoon phase will end in time. If you’re having a bad game, you’re going to feel that frustration the same way you do in paper. This has been true in all of the other digital platforms for card games too.
I think the secret packs are wonderful, coming from playing every other card game online (magic arena, pokemon, duel links), the system is really easy once you understand how it works and lets you build any deck you want, going down to 80 cards per set helps compared to arena where you just have to just hope you get enough wildcards, the system lets you specialize to what deck you want, granted there are certain cards that are outside of the packs, but you can craft them with the crafting system and those two systems together make deck creation top tier in my opinion
I put over 12 hours into this game today. I put most of my resources into making a Shark/Kragen Control deck I've been wanting to make irl for TCG play and so far it's gotten me to halfway between Gold and Platinum level. I also have a Cyber Dragon deck that's very similar to the one I've used irl for the TCG going, but I'm missing most of the big staple Extra Deck cards that are UR. Really enjoying the game so far. They should put a disclaimer on this game warning everyone of how addicting it can get. I look forward to crafting and building other decks I know little to nothing about or never played before and getting to know them and use them.
Some of my early logic to my friends why I liked master duel and it got me back into yu gi oh was that "If I am going to die, at least I can die while looking at pretty colors"
I think, THINK, the large master pack is meant as a gateway to secret packs. I opened a free master pack, and got a special foil red-dragon archfiend deck, and fron there, was able to make a red dragon synchro deck. What they should have done, was just sell us packs in sets as they were in the tcg/ocg. Structure decks too. Would have been much easier to find what you need.
This is the best Yugioh thing I've experienced ever. I spent a lot of time getting through the full solo mode (which has some incredible lore btw), and I barely even noticed it was 2AM lol. I also built my full deck as well as got all of the special bundles as fully F2P. Konami outdid themselves
one thing to note, its been discovered that you can unlock the secret packs by simply crafting an SR or UR of that packs archetype. Still not super great, but you at least can have some control over unlocking the pack.
Just want to point out: the banlist is OCG July 2021 currently, which is about where the cutoff for the missing cards are as well (BODE was in July for OCG)
Built up a TCG-centric, current banlist, Tri-Brigade Lyrilusc deck with a few missing extra deck monsters in like 3 hours of playing. Didn't spend any money on it, just some play in Ranked and Solo. My one issue, that's been echoed a bit, is it does feel like I needed to revise my list immediately in Gold because everyone runs three of every hand trap. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but that part feels a bit constraining and like I'm playing around them more than the actual archetype I'm facing. Other than that, genuinely, shocked that this is anywhere near as good as it is.
At first I wasn't convinced, but when I actually started playing I really liked it, those animations really make you feel like you are dueling, the card smashing itself onto the field, or when it attacks directly, it just looks very good. One little complaint I have is the battle pass, being kinda lackluster and having just that Construct wallpaper and Pot Of Greed mate, and the other 98 levels are all non-unique things. They could step up their game a bit on that. And I can't wait to have more choices on fields, mates, sleeves and so on, and so on. Really excited to play it.
Played for a couple hours and turned the demise structure into a cluster ef of rits and then into a nearly complete drytron list. Missing a few ultras but I should be able to craft them sooner or later
Honestly, love it so far. The Packs were a little weird at first but I knew what I wanted and as soon as I got a D/D/D on the Master Pack I just got the secret for them and now I just have a full deck :D.
Ngl I am hooked, Colossus being legal gives me a shot of serotonin everytime I summon it, I can only hope the banlist puts it at one, but if it doesn't I can say I'm content doing it in Master Duel for the time being
I am primarily a magic player, but what I like about Master Duel is it keeps the aesthetic of playing with real cards rather than token representations of them. +1 for Master Duel.
The biggest complaint I have is that the crafting system isn't very well explained. I thought it was similar to duel links where you needed to unlock a card from a secret set, or if there was a trader of some sort. If someone had told me that you just search for any card in the deck editor and click to make it on the spot, I would've gone with a better starting deck than improvised Mayakashi.
Surprised you didn't talk about the alternate banlist that Master Duel has and the implications that it has on the metagame (Engage at 2, Colossus and Harp Horror Legal, Maxx C at 3...)
If they want to keep the 24 hour thing, I think a small thing would be having some way to "pin" or "highlight" a pack you want to keep open. Make it so you can select one pack you want to hard dig into, and make it where you can have it stick around for say 72 hours, and not 24. Still has the element of exclusivity that komoney wants, but just seems a little more fair, without breaking their business model. Keep up the good work mboooooteee
I really love that the banlist is different from the tcg, being able to actually play thunder dragons and Lunalights again is really nice and I just have to hope that some random card from an archetype nobody plays will get them banned again
There's a couple niche things that aren't quite there yet. I'm playing earth machine, and have Infinitrack Goliath attached to a VFD. Goliath is supposed to make VFD immune to destruction effects, but my opponent destroyed it with a card effect without negating it.
This game's cost is amazing. I'm a f2p player and I've gotten away with U.A for about 6 hours total and both that and fluffal are fully fledged decks with the exception of a playset or 2 of handtraps. People give the crafting system loads of shit saying it don't solve the problem entirely but the amount of luck you need to build a deck is pretty low (usually getting 2-3 ultras per 10 secret packs). My main complaint is how much the influx of gems dies over time, the main income after 3-4 hours being 200 per solo completion, 100 per rank up, chests from post-duel boxes, daily logins and the duel pass. That sounds like a lot but it can quickly diminish and the both chances and amount of gems from chests is pretty low
There NEEDS to be a casual mode, I hate being in Bronze 3 and suddenly seeing FULL FUCKING POWER ELDITCH or FULL ON Zoodiac/Tri-Brigade when I'm just trying to try this new T.G deck I've been cooking up
The biggest thing I fear is the gem economy after the first couple of days. You get a ton at first- through leveling up the first few times, through playing ranked and solo mode, unlocking a bunch of missions at once, and that's all fine and dandy. But after that? I really hope Konami will do what they're doing in Links, and having at least semi interesting events for us ftplayers. Otherwise, you're gonna chase after a deck or two to actually win currency, and hardly stray from it.
You can get other monster art. I got Eldlich and the Duel Pass gives you Construct. It's your banner and the main menu monster.
I got Eldlich too; no idea how though
@@weckar story mode missions
Solo mode gives a huge amount of cosmetics, you just cant see what you dont onw, so it feels empty at first

Yeah I built a pretty good frightfur deck without spending money

@@kaleidoscope6043 Doesn't ring a bell
@@FishFosh you can't use the cards from those packs for crafting
I haven't played any modern yugioh but I tried master duel and really, there are a few more cool things:
- Bundles. Even if the fully random packs aren't amazing, the 25% discount and free staple are neat to start a collection
- Cosmetics are cheap. Like, the most expensive are the boards at 600 gems. That's the price of 6 packs. Even if you're F2P, you can get bling a bit.
- Season pass doesn't require "paid only" gems or other bs. If you play a lot, you can basically get a bunch of extra rewards for free (costs 600, earns 600 total)
- You can cancel most misclicks. In legacy of the duelist, if you selected to summon/set the wrong monster you were forced to go through and that was so annoying.
4:16 I'm upset at single-duel only ranked because without side decking you either have to cram answers to all sort of decks the opponent might use, or just hope your opponent isn't using a gimmicky deck that completely dominates yours just because you didn't want to add some Kaijus to counter that Crooked Cook BS
I'm not saying that a having single-duel ranked ladder is bad, I just wanted a second ladder for best of 3 matches, so I can opt out of that kind of stuff when I want to
Hopefully Konami listen to all of the feedback and fix the banlist have different eras to duel in and matches fingers crossed because MD is actually quite good
It's why Mine is banned, I think.
@@weckar mine is banned in the ocg which is basically what the banlist is sprinkled with some random bullshit other cards
@@zanecallisto4169 It's 100% the ocg banlist. The previous one. Not the latest one.

To be honest I really just want secret packs to be a little more permanent. Like maybe it’s there for 24 hours, but if you do a 10 pull on it, it stays there. It sucks doing a few pulls before bed and getting an archtype you want to play
if you get sr/ur from the packs they update the time so thats "something"

def far from perfect but yeah
Crafting a UR/SR card from the archetype also extends/brings back the pack.

My one gripe with this crafting system is the fact that you can't possibly turn lower rarities into higher ones. I get why, because you get so many commons and rares, but still would've been nice to "upgrade" crafting points in any way.
You can, I think. Its a random craft chance of turning out a higher rarity.
You can't downgrade either, I think. A real shame cause I have SRs I need but a good chunk of UR points.
it's kinda eh because in other card games with crafting, they use universal currency (arcane dust in HS etc)
@@hngtuong or they use dual currency,
Which is even more restrictive.
I’ve played Master Duel a bunch since release. I think it’s very fun and well put together, with a lot of really weird mechanics they don’t tell you! (Did you know? If you generate a SR card or higher with a secret pack, you unlock that secret pack! They do not tell you this.)
The bigger thing for me is how accessible it is for people who have no idea what’s going on.
You know all those unlocks will go away again though right?
Even with Secret Packs, literally half the cards won't even be from the set you're opening.
But crafting is pretty effective, so it's whatever.
Not to mention, that frustration goes away if you get duplicates so you can farm for crafting.
Legit built my Gizmek deck thanks to those things

Actually, ocg format has been quite hard to enjoy for the last year or so, hence why I'm hoping they will implement a way to play actual tcg/ocg formats instead of... whatever they're planning to do here. interesting thoughts, though what is definitely missing in the picture of packs/card aquisition is the fact that you are not dependant on pulling from the 3 base packs to unlock secret packs - you can just craft any archetype-related SR or UR and it will unlock the secret pack it is contained in. this makes it very easy to invest into one specific deck, as that secret peck tends to have most of the archetype-specific cards the deck needs; at least as far as i can tell so far.
I find that most of the secret packs do make some awkward archetype combinations. Like, things that would never go together.
Yeah I crafted a thunder dragon and unlocked the thunder roar secret pack, after spending 6000 gems or something I had a full chaos thunder deck just missing a few URs like melody that I will get tomorrow, note: I only played for 1 and a half hour, my friend played for 5 hours and he already has a full pendulum magician endymion deck with accesscode and all that stuff, now he is working on getting more staples like nib and gamma
to add onto that, it seems you get a free pack the first time you unlock (or extend) a given secret pack this way
I am genuinely interested in this though, especially if support for legacy formats like Edison becomes a thing
FR they should introduce support for all the alternate formats they just released IRL, Time Wizard, Common Charity etc. Would make perfect sense.
The game just came out give it time
I love it, my only gripe is they completely neglected to think about phase effects like Multirole and Shizuku activating and resolving as the player wants.

And since Master Duel uses a custom banlist, I really don't see a world where Crooked Cook doesn't get banned by the time Astral Kuriboh releases
@@styxxiii astral kuriboh's already in the game
Did not know it dropped.
Using this vid to see what to expect.
Thanks for tempering my expectations and for giving me some hope in other cases.
The random banlist choice is also a problem to me. Maybe they will adapt with the possibility to choose between different format, maybe GOAT ?? If we can just play TCG and no OCG format one day it will be a real level up for the game
I think Master Duel might have two rank system with different banlist, or worst--world banlist
I really, really hope they add different formats. I'm not that into modern Yugioh, but Master Duels is just way more fun than Duelingbook. If they add Goat and make the older Boosters easier to get to, I think they could gain a really loyal, stable playerbase.
1 banlist is better
hopefully this game allows them to collect better data to fix up the list
Fuck the tcg banlist all my homies hate it
The crafting system is insane in how fair and great it is, in just a couple hours of playing i managed to make a fully actualized dragonmaid deck that's full of UR's without spending a penny.
Edit: actually i did do a 10 pack opening and didn't get any so there's also that
I built try-lusc in 4 hours. It’s more than competitive
It tells you what’s guaranteed for each 10 pack you buy so don’t always expect a UR
As for the original comment you are correct.
The game is really F2P friendly, you can build really competent decks without spending a single dime.
3:20 you can also get a key to unlock the pack by chance during card crafting
I crafted 3 Rare Deskbot 03 and got the key for it's set so it doesn't need to be an SR
3:46 the time limit for the secret packs resets whenever you get another key for it as well
The archetypal packs arent even dedicated to that archetype you just have an increased chance of getting those cards.
Actually they are very dedicated the problem is that you aren’t guaranteed to get the srs and urs from the archetype. However they did put strong cards in the rare and normal slots which is really nice
@@codyfeasts7196 Tried to get some SR Dinosaur cards, what did I get? Heckin' Nordic lol
Yeah I can craft them, but I had rather wished for a Dino SR..
@@codyfeasts7196 it's like 3600s card in the secret pack pulls.
Duel Links tutorial rewards are terrible
The ost is a masterpiece!
(note: I did have to do some disassembling and assembling to get there, but you get free materials for doing each of those the first time anyway so you should)
Following assembling that deck, I was able to clear out a ton more story stuff and get started on climbing ladder to get those rewards as well.
I’m pretty sure The time limit of secret packs resets when you pull or craft a super rare of that archetype
The banner pull packs are just meant to unlock secret packs, then if you want to complete a deck you buy from the secret pack for that. E.g. Stalwart has the UR/SR of many good archetypes, you get one then you do a 10 pull on the secret pack for that , etc.
You unlock a lot of art and packs from Solo Mode, which you didn't play.
I think it’s fun. I’d like some strategy content helping us noobies with stuff like if you want these cards buy these packs kind of thing.
I really just hope there a lot of good guides coming out of the community for this. I want to get into Yu-Gi-Oh, but I don't know how to deckbuild it and so many decks have a lot of options
The guides are already out, its pretty much standard Yu-Gi-Oh. Go watch any deck profile online and you are good to go.
I'm on the same boat, but as a returning player instead. I don't want to blow all my gems on some terrible deck and then get stuck with it.
It's basically the TCG you just build what's meta in the TCG and ignore all the low tier trash unless you want to waste your gems
I played for like two hours last night and was able to put together a VW list pretty much identical to the one I own in paper, so I'm pretty happy about that.
Hope u didn't see that VFD is legal
@@GothicKin I did this morning but I ain't playing it. I got manners and shit.
We know different formats will be happening and this might happen pretty soon.
i was excited because i forgot actual yugioh games require you to spend way too much actual money to do anything fun
@@vipersniperpiper6093 wish I could find this sooner
To be fair, getting the secret packs to show up is so easy its trivial. So the timer for those is less cancer then the one on the main packs
@@luminous3558 I wouldn't be so sure, especially since it would be trivial for Konami to threaten them into shutting down their servers, and *especially* especially since they took down Dueling Network
honestly it might happen but only because people spam offical channels/forum/chats/comments with "GO PLAY X INSTEAD ITS FREE AND YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING"
I think if there wasnt those people it be 0% chance they be shut down but the more they spam the more chance konami strikes it
On positive side they did mention that they want old formates for the game so hopefully we get stuff like goats as event+more customizable duel rooms sooner rather then later
So how will this be used in the future, for tournaments? If they had a connection to ygopro then the progression series could find a new home...
You can just copy deck straight from internet
Since it is OCG and single duel, maybe u wanna adjust some techs for it
@@jofx4051 True, but with the Public Deck mechanic in the game I can copy the decklist and it'll show me what all cards I still need to obtain if I don't already have the cards.
As soon as i started I grabbed 3 of the Pend structure decks, crafted my way into playing Odd-Eyes, and now also have Lunalight fully built!
That and the weird pack system aside, I’m really enjoying the game.
You can test in the solo mode against the different challenges that allow you to bring your own deck.
@@luminous3558 yeah, i just feel it’s not quite the same, being limited as it is.
It's just not as nearly same experience against people in DUEL and in SOLO at all, it will just overwhelm new players and returning players
Surely better have AIs with every single modern deck in deck like in WCS games and the game you said too
Thanks for a lot of fun today with the stream, looking forward to all that comes next.
Structure decks are always a joke
Also cause of easy craft system, people just bringing metas to rank which is just depressing
@@jofx4051 remember the game has been out for a day it's going to take a while for the meta too settle and the ranks will look more like how you think then tier 1 decks in like rookie rank
They want master duel to replace remote duels, because it removes the possiblity of cheating.
It seems good, but I'm hoping it'll be updated with the last few sets and an option for a TCG banlist before I actually buy it.
About the packs: you can craft a sr and than u will get the pack related to this crafted SR so its not that bad.
Goliath only protects machine monsters
