I think we need to try this on a grander tournament scale. These videos are very fun and I do see the vision, but I think we need to get a full on actual tournament under the MBT banlist to see some fuller implications.
Honestly I just want to see the despair in twitch chat when dragon ruler link is shown as a thought experiment and proceeds to end on like, double baronne de fleur, borreload savage dragon, and god knows what else
Honestly, while I think grass is an extremely powerful card, I think it is 1 of the cards on the list that could be experimented with. It's a card that you really have to build a deck around. While the Dragon deck was strong, it didn't really need grass all that much. I'm not saying Grass should come back, but it could be interesting if it did. Also Harp to 1.
@Skullo Dream I kinda think grass is that the type of card that should either be at zero or three. Building a deck around a one of doesn't really work that well unless the card is extremely searchable. Plus the difference between 1 and 3 is negligible. All that creates are consistency issues. And if grass was legal, everyone would know that if someone is playing a 60-card deck, hold the ash for the grass. I'd be curious to see a tournament where the only change would be grass to three.
@@astercat49 I would find it incredibly funny if that happened as I played Generaider at 60 cards for a while to reduce my risk of drawing the bosses and playing more generic interruptions and ways to get to my engine. @@AltergeistThey aren't interchangable. Protos is a Wyrm, so you can't search it with Melody like Eschatos, and Level 10, which means Chaos Space isn't useful with it either. If you sub out Eschatos for Protos, you're just adding a card that you won't access in 99% of your games, and since you need to banish 3 different Attributes for it, you're forced into commiting to an Extra Deck play or hoping you've used a handtrap before it, since you're playing almost exclusively Light and Dark monsters.
You know there's a lot of interesting discussions about the format of Yugituber videos where small scale tournaments are used to prove points in all ignorance of the law of large numbers. However, who the fuck cares, Synchron best deck it is the actual best timeline let's unban more shit while we're at it that deck is literally invincible.
Honestly, probably what Konami should do is have a second format where it starts with every card unbanned. And let it organically figure itself out. Give it like four months for the meta to settle, and you'd figure out what should remain banned. Then every two years, do it again. Unban everything and watch the meta settle.
that was the hypest iteration of dragon link I have ever seen! and all of that without agarpain and elpy! and that synchron build was also really cool and skillful. this was awesome to watch
As a Magic the gathering player , who played Yu-Gi-Oh in High school very casualy. this looks like ais playing by the speed and complexity of the lines
You know, the more I watch these tournaments, the less interesting they get. For so many cards off the banlist you'd think that more decks would experiment, but every successive tournament has had less and less alteration to both the meta decks and the rouge strategies. Grass Roots Dragon Link was pretty cool, but outside of that, everything else was pretty standard with very few alterations.
That's the issue with doing these as small tourneys with short notice, I think. If they were able to test for like two weeks or so, then do a prelim tourney to determine contestants and decks, I think it would be more interesting. But then it would be a huge undertaking every banlist season and I doubt there's time in Joseph's schedule for that.
@@NJoCaulfield Issue is that MBT is basically cursed so that the official banlist comes out almost instantly after he does these toruneys. So to keep the gimmick accurate, he needs to have them done ASAP. Although with the Masochist version I think he could afford to allow more time now
To be fair that is kind of the point. The whole idea behind the tournament is that the ban list has a lot of bloat on it. If anything I think this makes a pretty good case that MBT is onto something.
@@AzureAetherXx Honestly, that's the reason why I'm not a big fan of MBT. A tournament like this should encourage creativity not flaunt the power of the status quo
@@munchrai6396 If cards ever came off the ban list on this level, this is exactly what would happen. The creativity you're asking for wouldn't happen because most Yu-Gi-Oh archetypes already have analogue cards similar to most of the generic cards that are banned. There are very few actual cards that would do anything to the format. And that's because these are all just tried and true strategies. Maybe you'd get some rogue stuff, but in a tournament consisting of a thousand players, you'd probably see very little rogue at the top. That's just statistics. That's also just meta, it would eventually just settle.
God the amount of plays in this tourny that just had me being like "wait what? Holy shit you can do that?!" Was incredible. These are all mad geniuses and to you I salute. And to the synchron player: hope that decklist isn't a NFT cause I'm screenshotting it since it looks awesome as heck
Game 1 round 1 he literally blind calls dinosaur because he has knowledge of his opponent's deck. Very disappointing way to lose from an otherwise broken hand in a powerful deck.
@@EpicKingofFail i mean tbf he couldve guessed it decently based on his opponent. with eschatos you dont really need a ton of knowledge of your opponents deck to make the right call so even in a normal tournament setting he wouldnt be that much worse off, especially later in the tournament when your more likely to have an idea what ppl are playing based on knowing the player, the meta, or just hearing/seeing things during the tournament
for a lot of the decks that have either multiple attributes or multiple types or involve banishing Golden Nova has been recommending if you want the deck it's best chance at semi-rogue playability running the archnemesis or a nemesis package is probably a good choice since they are kind of game enders.

Absolute props to your commentatorship, and you did it all live! I will never unsubscribe from this channel as long as I live 💖
The banlist is not about balancing the game, it's about making money. - Banning cards to make the current top decks less relevant than whatever new stuff is coming out, to entice people to buy the new stuff - Unbanning old cards that are about to be reprinted, so that people will buy the reprint sets - Avoiding an abysmally unfun format (like the Wind-up / Inzektor / Dino-Rabbit format) to keep the game alive
There is zero way you can say that point 3 is not also about balancing the game. An illusion of a somewhat balanced game makes more money than a game even babies can see is all about sacking and stacking.
That is kind of a reductive way of thinking. Remember how long sky strikers was meta and everyone hated it? Konami wants to make money but honestly the fan base wants old decks to be cycled out for new shit. Just look at the fan base when a format goes on a little to long
Also unbanning old cards after they are below rogue tier power level is a good enough incentive sometimes to bring people back in the game, get some new cards for their old deck or even invest in something new because they can't really compete with the new shit
@@michaelgrey1503 but my striker comparison is apt. People wanted engage dead, and they got that. The result is striker basically fell from competitive play for a pretty long time and still is only marginally rogue. Same thing happened to VW with King

HOWEVER, I went oh shit if i dont use ecclesia i can make verte and break the entire board easy. I forgot i used nadhir. And um game 3 i didnt read lunaligh tiger but that game was a lost cause cuz i had no way to get rid of ariel in my hand.
Those hands were as bricky as I was hard watching Synchron and Pendulums in finals
Can't wait for snow and masterplan to come back next banlist
1:18:36, that zoom in got me. that is the look of a man who had full confidence, and proved he was right
MBT apologizing non-stop to the Lunalight player had me in stitches lmao
6:45
"You can see that we've got a Dang Long in here with a sizeable package"
I think we need to try this on a grander tournament scale. These videos are very fun and I do see the vision, but I think we need to get a full on actual tournament under the MBT banlist to see some fuller implications.
The thing is, everyone was having fun watching this. It was damn fun. You need to do more of these. :D
I’d like to see Infernity with 3 Archfiend and 2 Launcher in the next iteration!
That would actually be really funny lol
Kinda scary with that new support sounds fun
Sir Emanon's side deck zefraath play was so based, then the synchron game. Holy shit. RIP
8:07 this just straight uo shows that that guy has never played wind-ups and I’m getting pretty angry
Came back after today's banlist. Playing this in locals
Yo next time you should unban all the dragon rulers to 3 since reddit thinks they’re ok
Honestly I just want to see the despair in twitch chat when dragon ruler link is shown as a thought experiment and proceeds to end on like, double baronne de fleur, borreload savage dragon, and god knows what else
Im so glade jet synchron got unbanned since that synchro deck looks super fun
Honestly, while I think grass is an extremely powerful card, I think it is 1 of the cards on the list that could be experimented with. It's a card that you really have to build a deck around. While the Dragon deck was strong, it didn't really need grass all that much. I'm not saying Grass should come back, but it could be interesting if it did. Also Harp to 1.
Play 60 cards or die against a single grass. Very fun card.
@@SkullOfDreams But you would have a good chance of winning when they don't draw it because they play 60 cards.
If they held the Ash for the Grass I wouldn't play, I'd be able to Loptr without ever being threatened by the Ash.
@@michaelgrey1503 or end on the Generaiders xyz and another rank 9 (probably the negate since VFD is banned) and a hand loop from harr, if you open loptr monstrosity in 60 cards lol
The thumbnail is pure genius.
Joseph you're an inspiration to everyone that can't read, I love you
I love these videos. This format is awesome. If you want to do another one where calamities is legal I'd love to play. Which will never happen but hey I'm gonna happily watch all of your future vids like this. MBT your my favorite RUclipsr at the moment.
Well, it turned out more interesting that farfa's no negate tournament where the winners were just meta decls with the cards that say negate removed
Eh, that tournament wasn't decided by coin toss or hope they brick like this one.
1:05:37 They went for Doppel instead of Ascator because Ascator is Earth and Chaos Ruler can only grab light/darks.
Feels like the eschatos carried it alot wonder Howd it go without knowing what he was playing against
Ud then change it for Protos no?
@@AltergeistThey aren't interchangable. Protos is a Wyrm, so you can't search it with Melody like Eschatos, and Level 10, which means Chaos Space isn't useful with it either. If you sub out Eschatos for Protos, you're just adding a card that you won't access in 99% of your games, and since you need to banish 3 different Attributes for it, you're forced into commiting to an Extra Deck play or hoping you've used a handtrap before it, since you're playing almost exclusively Light and Dark monsters.
@@NJoCaulfield I thought he was using small world and stuff yo find it thought ya I'd prob would need a different combo line
51:42 "oh my god you can get celestial with monkeyboard, you cant take monkeyboard off"
konami: about that...
I'm down with making synchron the best deck
41:06 has to be the best thing I’ve seen in a while
You know there's a lot of interesting discussions about the format of Yugituber videos where small scale tournaments are used to prove points in all ignorance of the law of large numbers.
However, who the fuck cares, Synchron best deck it is the actual best timeline let's unban more shit while we're at it that deck is literally invincible.
This doesn’t even qualify as a small scale tournament. Some locals have top cuts; this one isn’t even big enough for that.
Honestly, probably what Konami should do is have a second format where it starts with every card unbanned. And let it organically figure itself out. Give it like four months for the meta to settle, and you'd figure out what should remain banned. Then every two years, do it again. Unban everything and watch the meta settle.
@@ArcDragoon something like that's called traditional, but no one cares about that
"Alright well I guess we have found the weakness to sword soul; you just make blue-eyes white dragon"
Why did I laugh so hard at this?! LOL.
fun fact the last duel last around 1 min and incedentally the 5ds intro is also 1min long....
coincidence i think not
that was the hypest iteration of dragon link I have ever seen! and all of that without agarpain and elpy!
and that synchron build was also really cool and skillful.
this was awesome to watch
The synchron player just had ungodly luck
As a Magic the gathering player , who played Yu-Gi-Oh in High school very casualy. this looks like ais playing by the speed and complexity of the lines
It hurt to see how many matches in this were decided by one of the players just hard bricking
Most of these lists sucked tbh
After seeing him play with cimmo, i was quite surprised to see how fast he could talk and keep up with all those plays.
Was literally just watching the vod for this lol
Wow never thought that synchrons can go that far n to think I loved them bc they looked cool n seeing them just dominating the meta is so awesome
@@NJoCaulfield
Issue is that MBT is basically cursed so that the official banlist comes out almost instantly after he does these toruneys.
@@munchrai6396
If cards ever came off the ban list on this level, this is exactly what would happen.
“Ok, you can’t take Monkeyboard off.”
Uh oh
apparently jet synchron is just too strong for the meta game
God the amount of plays in this tourny that just had me being like "wait what? Holy shit you can do that?!" Was incredible. These are all mad geniuses and to you I salute.
And to the synchron player: hope that decklist isn't a NFT cause I'm screenshotting it since it looks awesome as heck
If my list was an NFT, you better screen shot it. Rev it up, fuck NFTs
@@Ahamkeira true that
Dino sucks
I hope MBT becomes an official konami commentator during tournaments! I like his style!
Jet synchron was the problem
not really synchron is just that good
33:10 omg tiger we can’t let this card come back
Konami: hold my beer
So Maverick just won most of his games because he went first literally every time and knew which decks his opponents were playing
@@radioatlast still scummy to win just because you know what you’re Opponent plays beforehand.
Props to Joseph, I don't understand yugioh, but was super entertained.
The real lesson here is that the archnemisis cards will be a problem for a while. Using it with the Dino link 2 is pretty big brain
these ones knew their opponent ahead of time but still yea
@@fortidogi8620 tbh, u can prob change it for Protos when u don't know and get similar results
for a lot of the decks that have either multiple attributes or multiple types or involve banishing Golden Nova has been recommending if you want the deck it's best chance at semi-rogue playability running the archnemesis or a nemesis package is probably a good choice since they are kind of game enders.
We don't deserve content of this sheer entertainment value.
Haven't played real yugioh in years, but just watching these over-meta monstrosities duking eachother out of a bracket is peak content man.
Absolute props to your commentatorship, and you did it all live! I will never unsubscribe from this channel as long as I live 💖
The banlist is not about balancing the game, it's about making money.
- Banning cards to make the current top decks less relevant than whatever new stuff is coming out, to entice people to buy the new stuff
- Unbanning old cards that are about to be reprinted, so that people will buy the reprint sets
- Avoiding an abysmally unfun format (like the Wind-up / Inzektor / Dino-Rabbit format) to keep the game alive
@@geiseric222 sure, but unless a deck is aggressively unfun, no one wants a deck slaughtered. Just brough down to size so other decks can compete.
@@michaelgrey1503 but my striker comparison is apt. People wanted engage dead, and they got that. The result is striker basically fell from competitive play for a pretty long time and still is only marginally rogue.
Same thing happened to VW with King
"and the one time...we don't talk about it"
As I learned having to play with a guy who's best deck is True Draco: Dread it, run from it, but the Draco will ALWAYS find you
I haven't actually watched the video yet but judging from the title: I have no idea how MBT is surprised that unbanning more tham half the list actually changes the game
what are your thoughts now?
Synchro spamming is the only playstyle that will persevere on and on. Keep driving Keira, you were amazing
So happy synchron won. I hope konami never sees this video and keeps jet on the banlist
