    Another vote for precooking and cooling for better hashbrowns! I cook a bunch of russets in the pressure cooker and then put them in the fridge at least overnight WITHOUT a lid. Then the next day, shred them up with a box grater and then air fry or sheet pan in the oven. So good.

    For hashbrowns, try soaking in water first then drying in a tea towel to get the moisture out before seasoning and cooking. I like cooking mine in the air fryer with garlic and onion powder.

    When making hashbrowns from scratch, squeeze the excess water out of the shredded potatoes 🥔 in a nut bag. They’ll crisp up much easier! You can also toss them in a little potato starch (instead of corn starch.)

    Hi! I make my potatoes in the instant pot first (14 minutes and then natural release); I then shred the potatoes and cook in air fryer (450 for 20 minutes). Fluffy and crispy each time 😊 enjoyed your video, thanks!

    I scrub my potatoes and then steam in instant pot with peel on. Let them cool and then put in the refrigerator. When I want a hashbrown I shred a potato on my box shredder. The peel just separates from the flesh of the potato and then I air fry of cook in a skillet. My teenage son uses them too so it’s super handy. The presteam/cool method also helps with blood sugar issues.

    We don’t have frozen hash browns here in Australia, so I feel your pain on nailing the method! Honestly, what I’ve found works best for a crunchy result and minimal clean up is to steam the potatoes first and cool. Then grate them and proceed as you would for frozen. Works a treat.

    I definitely would use all the types of potatoes and sweets🥔🍠
    I really agree with 99.9 % of the starch solution but honestly make an exception and allow myself nuts/nut butters. “The fat you eat is the fat you wear” doesn’t work for my body
    Thank you for always reminding us to taylor our nutrition to our our bodies. 💓

    Had to make a quick comment and I saw someone else bring it up too, moisturize for HB is death lol If you do fresh, you gotta squeeze the life juice out of them lol Drier stuff will brown up and crisp up much better than soggy. And I noticed your veggies were really wet too, gotta cook out that liquid. Also patience is key! When I make them stove top, it takes 40 minutes lol 20 minutes per side to get them crispy. I do use oil, so with no oil, they may not get as brown. I season with salt, pepper, garlic & onion power. Yes onion powder even if I use onions too.

    For the hash browns I “drain” the shredded potatoes before cooking them. I put them in a cotton (not terry) dish towel, let them hang for a bit and squeeze them (twist the towel) to get the moisture out. Maybe the onion and green pepper added too much additional moisture, too?

  • @jilln2958
    @jilln2958 Год назад +3

    Soak the potato shreds and then drain. Super important. Then cook however - airfry is a fav for me. You can also put them together like tots after they are shredded! You got this!

    • @flourishingmiranda

      Shred and drain? Or should I squeeze them out with a towel?

    • @jilln2958
      @jilln2958 Год назад +1

      @@flourishingmiranda either way. Squeezing them will make them drier which crisps them up faster. So it just depends on what you’re going for. You want to remove the starch, and get them dry. That’s the goal with the soak and the drain/squeeze.

    Hello Miranda, I LOVE your video's, they each are inspiring, uplifting! I do have a suggestion about how to get crispy potato hash browns, and I got it from Jeannine, with Potato Wisdom. I will give you one of her links. Like you, she has been inspired by Dr. John McDougall and his wife, Mary and also Mary's Mini programs. She does her own variation of it, similar to like what you do, as well. She has many videos on getting all styles of potatoes extra crunchy and crispy and she also does the mashed potato fries. She usually will cook her potatoes first in a electric pressure cooker and allow them to cool in the refrigerator overnight. It turns the starches into resistant starches and works a whole lot better in crisping up then with raw shredded potatoes. Jeannine has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease, which makes loosing weight even more of a challenge but she has lost well over 100 pounds. I know YOU are not in this type of eating for weight loss, I am just sharing a bit of interesting information of the challenges that Jeannine has been working with. Anyway, Crisping up those potatoes into crispy, golden delights are so much easier when the potatoes are already pre-cooked and allowed to dry out in your refrigerator for several hours. You can keep them in a bowl without a cover and they will be perfect. She also uses her oven, waffle maker, air fryer to make them crispy. I hope this is helpful. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful budget videos and your lifestyle living. ruclips.net/video/_MvFFR7iDho/видео.html

    I always use a hand grater for my hashbrowns... I rinse once and then squeeze out most of the water... I don't rinse super well because I feel some starch helps hold it together and I like the flavor better... I've rinsed too much before and felt they did not hold their shape and they didn't taste as yummy.

    when I make the hashbrowns in the food processor I will rinse in a large bowl then drain in a collander and press as much of the liquid as possible out in a cotton towel. Works really well. But making them is not as easy as one would think what I do know is that you have to squeeze out as much water as possible and many times that is a two person job. I have tried to make them and they are not an epic failure but they are definitely not what you get at a restaurant. But I shall keep on trying.
