    I was able to source a full BOM. Some parts had to be substituted as the originals are hard to source using traditional suppliers. This BOM can be found in my PCBWay community page linked in the description!

    Ah, had to go back and verify: 2:41 you added the two 5.1K pull down resistors on cc1 and cc2 so it will charge from a USB-C source. Good job! Also, awesome rework, the true spirit of the maker/engineer: "This is not right, I will modify it to be correct"

       @Solder_king I may have missed it but are you planning to sell the boards populated with components?
      With regard to the sponsor, yes you could have had it sponsored either way you said as much, but from PCB ways perspective I'm fairly certain that a video that contains an example of the product I manufacture showcasing the quality would be much better than a video where the person is just telling the customer about it as physical items speak to their quality better then just vocally saying it.

    • @Solder_king
      @Solder_king  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@reverberer I'm not selling anything. I'm going to provide a product link with a full BOM. The PCB can already be purchased through PCBWAY as a transplant board but the goal is to get a full BOM so anyone can buy a fully assembled one if they want.
      That's how sponsors work. Even if PCBWAY wasn't sponsoring me I would've had this PCB made as I've done in the past. Saying I'm doing it just to thrown out sponsored content is just wrong.

      @@Solder_king Fair enough, then although I won't use it as I don't have the actual mouse or the skills to do all the soldering required to make the mod board for you for your time and effort designing the board, as designing custom PCBS is definitely not approachable for your average novice or beginner like me.
      Also eventually if some one were to construct the boards once a full BOM is established and then sell them that would be great as well as I know for a fact soldering / desoldering some of the components such as the ribbon connector isn't very approachable for a beginner / novice with my skills below. There are a lot of people like myself who admire your skils certainly with the ability you have shown with the reading of the circuit, design of the PCB, and identification and sourcing of the components, which is why I assumed you could have found a USB C connector that could have fit. I especially wish I could get my head around circuit design, but I suck at it which Is why I leave it to professionals such as yourself. For a novice like me, the two most approachable solutions are to either use a pre manufactured purchased board, or as I did with my torch, replace the connector and just make it work.

      Logitech does sell trackballs that charge using USB-C - however: They don't sell one with this model's capabilities, which can be paired with up to two devices (your choice of using the Logitech dongle or Bluetooth with one or both devices), plus other advantages over their cheaper trackballs. Truthfully, they should release a successor of this model. One that you can use with up to three devices, like all their wireless keyboards these days, but other than the Micro-USB/USB-C issue, the existing MX Ergo trackball probably needs to be around for three more years (10 years total) before they would consider completely supplanting it.
      When I bought mine, I was most suspicious of the rechargeable nature of it and thought the battery would die within years, like a smartphone's can, and Logitech even planned on offering replacement batteries, but that idea disappeared quickly, although you can get replacement batteries off of eBay. Seven years later, that trackball battery still lasts me months, I have a second trackball I keep in the living room, and my wife uses one, too. Oh, I bought my step-nephew one as well when his old battery wireless Logitech trackball died.
      Long digression, but also when I bought my first MX Ergo (Plus) in 2017, my Pixel 1 was the only USB-C device I owned, my tablet was still Micro-USB, although I was already sold on the idea of USB-C being used for everything.

    Great video shows how clean this can be done. I did a similar USB C transplant onto a MX Master from 2016 but much less refined just slapped a aliexpress USB C 5V breakout board inside fixed the port with solder to the ground plane and it still works. Only issue is the soft rubber shell degraded over time and I had to fix it with some sugru too.

    man, Track ball mouse used to be so simple. They used to be just a PCB and some rollers with sensors to detect the movement of the track ball. I still remember that time at school when the balls on our mouse were stolen by other students so we had to improvise by reaching into the mouse through the hole for the track ball and manually turning the rollers inside to move around the cursor on our screen. It was really hard but looking back it was a really enjoyable experience. I actually wish I can find an actual track ball mouse from the early 2000s to displace on my desk or heck even try gaming on one.

      The switch was apart of the original board. It functioned as the on/off switch for the mouse. The reason behind that was to provide a substitute part if they were damaged during removal :)

    1. Selling the PCB with all the parts in it as a drop in replacent, only needing the customer to shave away some plastic for the larger USB C commector
    2. Selling a couple of these to people who really want a USB C version of the ergo
