Congratulations! I just did my first 48 hour fast as well. I felt great between 36 and 42 hours but right around the 46th hour I was getting antsy for food. Then about 15 minutes before I was going to eat my neighbor comes knocking and asked if I want to go for a walk lol so I did. @@Pipsterz Always best to stop if you're feeling unwell. I felt pretty iffy on day 2 of my first multi day fast, but I knew logically that I would be fine. I was taking a multi vitamin, and I was letting my body live off of the fat that I had stored - which is something our bodies were designed to do when food is scarce. Depending on the person, there are a lot of mental games which can occur when fasting. We subconsciously tell ourselves we need to eat, otherwise we will feel weak, unwell, etc.

Thank you! I am struggling terribly. My addiction is coffee. Yes, I could drink it black but I cannot. I’d rather not drink at all if I can’t have whipping cream and sweetener. Today I drank two cups of plain herbal tea and caved mid-morning. I never realized how addicted to coffee with cream I am. I won’t have a meal until lunch, but coffee...🤦🏼‍♀️...I barely make it to 10am before I’m losing my mind.
I wish there was a video on how to hack this addiction. I’ve tried almost everything I know. I’m so disappointed that I sabotage myself with coffee and cream and not actual food. This should be easy...but it’s not.

After a couple of months on Keto i started to notice that i stopped reacting this way and also didn't feel as hungry as i used to. Then it became easy for me to fast. The weight falls off so quickly while fasting that its almost scary. I alternate between no fasting, OMAD, 20/4 and a few 48 - 72 hour fasts thrown in. Mostly 20/4, with a meal at 2pm and another at 6pm. Its pretty easy once you get in the groove. I'm 68 and have battled with weight issues all my life. I was a fat baby, and have tried all kinds of diet plans and "tricks" since I was in my teens. I even tried amphetamine-based diet pills in my 20's. Yikes! The upside is that I have become very aware of what goes into my body, and over the years I learned a lot about what my body needs and how to eat well. I cleanse yearly, which includes a 4-day fast, and I'll often extend the cleanse by excluding all foods that burden the liver (sugar, alcohol, unhealthy fats, caffeine, red meat) for several weeks. Still, I can carry 20 to 50 pounds more than my "ideal" weight. I always found the fasting portion of my cleanse to be extremely effective in dropping weight, resetting my "sweet-meter," and generally helping me to feel lighter and clearer. Intermittent fasting is a relatively new idea to me, and I only wish I had been aware of it decades ago! I eat a largely paleo diet (with a small, dark chocolate cheat), and in January I started fasting 16-8 daily, with one monthly 42-hour fast. I quickly found that I can easily tolerate 18-6 daily, occasionally less, and I always feel great. Herbal teas help me get through the evening. Mugs of warm water in the morning are good health practice generally, and are great fillers until my "eating window" opens up. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us. This feels like a lifestyle program I can follow indefinitely. Very, very grateful follower here!

I started 8 days ago at my heaviest weight ever, with a BMI of 47! I've now gotten under my second heaviest weight. And it's been SO EASY. I never ever expected IF to be easy. I've done mostly 18/6, with a 23/1, a 22/2, and even skipped fasting on Christmas day completely. Even with snacking on Christmas day, I still lost 7 oz that day. Getting back into the 18/6 after Christmas wasn't even hard. I have high hopes for this lifestyle change. Editing to add, my start date was 12/19/21 at 273 lbs

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 35 days ago. I have to say, I kind of deserved it. I was buying many super big gulps of Pepsi everyday while I worked. I was consuming about 8000 calories of sugar everyday just in my drinks. I move around a lot so I only weighed 207 (I'm 5'10") but it was unhealthy. I had known a guy who fasted every so often, so it wasn't a completely alien idea to me. I immediately cut all drinks with sugar out of my diet, mostly just have water or unsweetened tea with stevia in it now. In just over 30 days, I have lost 32 lb. My blood sugar is 100 anytime I check it, fasting or not. My high cholesterol has gone away. Hell even my heart rate which spiked up whenever I got up and moved around hovers around 60 almost constantly now no matter what I'm doing. I hit it pretty hardcore with (2) 48 hour fasts a week for the first two weeks, and then have moved (1) four day fast for the last 2 weeks. So far there are no ill effects and an abundance of good effects. I even had a skin condition thats like psoriasis that disappeared two weeks into this. Who would have thought. My biggest problem now is I need a new wardrobe because of the weight loss. Start small and build up to bigger fasts. Your body gets used to it and it gets easy.

She obviously knows nothing, and that isn't surprising -- doctors receive almost no training on the subject of nutrition, and the little bit they do receive is wrong and based on obsolete research that's decades out of date. They receive no training whatsoever about fasting, as far as I'm aware. Therefore, unless your doctor has happened to take a personal interest in these subjects and has kept up-to-date with the relevant research, they will be expressing opinions based on almost complete ignorance. That's true for probably over 90% of doctors. For this reason, the standard advice of Dr. Fung and others to "consult your doctor" is essentially just a suggestion to consult with someone more ignorant than you, so that they have the opportunity to try to talk you out of a course of action that would improve your health. I don't take these sorts of warnings and disclaimers seriously -- they're essentially just CYA statements to minimize the risk of lawsuits.
That said, Dr. Fung is right that anyone who decides to fast should research the subject properly so they know what to expect and what *not* to expect, and how to fast safely. If you're not going to do that, then you'll probably make mistakes that could be dangerous and shouldn't do it at all. As he said, it's important to know when to stop, as well as ensuring you're getting adequate hydration, electrolytes, etc.
I personally, however would never "consult my doctor" prior to starting a fast, since I'm already familiar with his lack of expertise on the subject and already know the types of things he'll say: _"Don't fast, because not eating is dangerous. Eat less and move more, and take this statin. Eat a 'balanced' diet consisting of many small meals a day. Don't eliminate grains and other high-carbohydrate foods, since your brain needs them for energy. Don't adopt 'fad' diets like low-carb/keto, since they'll raise your cholesterol,..."_ -- crap like that. I've been getting that sort of bad advice from the MSM for decades -- I don't need my doctor to convey it to me, and don't see the benefit in getting advice from ignorant people with no expertise. Following the advice of fools is foolish in itself.

Thanks Dr. I started your fasting method after keto. It works better and faster with the fasting. I could see myself having more energy and my belly is reducing. My family and friends think that I am crazy to fast as it is too 'dangerous' or 'extreme' as I am in a good shape with no need to reduce my food consumption. In my younger days, I had very bad lifestyle ( fast food, sleep late, alcohol , parties). I am trying to reverse what I had done to my body and trying to detox and doing things right to my body and mind now ( at age of 41 ). I am happy that I have come across your video and your knowledge really helps. I am sharing to my friends who needs help. Thanks for the great work.

friend who has T2 told me about Dr Fung. I'm not diabetic, but got long covid (4 months) which revealed some changes I needed to make. Lost 30lbs - no more HBP, apnea, shortness of breath, anxiety, aches- even stopped sweating profusely doing yard work or working out. All my PCP offered me was medication. I also liked Dr Jamnadas- Cardiologist lectures (he mentions Dr Fung- would love to see them have a discussion). When asked- I tell people- I'm not dieting, just rediscovered (through Dr Fung) a lifestyle and demonized food that many of us older people have "forgotten". As a child in the late 1960's thru 70's. People didn't eat all of the time and we moved a lot more.- obesity was an anomaly- not the norm.

Never ask an MD about nutrition. Western doctors don’t know jack about how to heal the body with food changes. Go to a holistic practitioner or a dietician.

I'm the same, though we are in different countries (Norway here). My MD's medical advise has been mostly excellent over the years, but his knowledge of nutrition? Non-existent. Anyone who has been following Jason Fung's (and other's) advise surpass just about any western doctor's knowledge by far.
