3 weeks in on keto, I brought up intermittent fasting with my husband and he refused to skip breakfast as breakfast food is his favourite food! I said okay, then we will skip dinner, which was easy for me because I hadn't even been hungry for dinner since starting keto. Now, we have a great breakfast, and a large meal around 2-3 pm, and fast the rest 16:8. He finds he isn't even hungry for dinner anymore either and we don't really feel like we are missing out socially. Our health is more important than social gatherings, during which we simply bring our water bottles and still mingle just fine. We sleep better too without a full stomach.

Knowing that skipping dinner is the most effective is very motivating; and knowing it will be easier to skip dinner when I don’t have to worry about being social - such as when I’m traveling, or my boyfriend is gone. Appreciate the tips for dealing with the habit, swapping for a good habit (never heard before about cider vinegar & chia seeds)and especially the tip that hunger just doesn’t continue to build, that to ride the wave, and it will decrease ... For me, keeping busy helps a lot too: sometimes I miss lunch this way without even thinking about it....

I have been battling my weight for many years and tried many things, I am also extremely active and spend roughly 2 hours at the gym, but I couldn't shed the excess weight. I tried intermittent fasting (low carb) 6 months ago and it has done wonders for not only my body weight but also my health. I was able to successfully control my diabetes, my A1C went from 11 to 5.2 from my last result. As for skipping meals I find that dinner is easier for me. First as a retail manager my work day is usually from 11-8 which means I won't get home until 9 by then it is easier to just not eat the rest of the night. Also I feel like I'm the opposite. I wake up in the morning and within an hour I get extremely hungry, so I usually break my fast with 2 organic eggs along with coffee w/ cream no sugar. I just want to spend this time to share my experience as well as thank Dr. Fung for your great content, I follow you and Dr. Berg and it has really help me with a lot.

Yes, I feel hungry, but I have no problem not to eat. I like to be hungry, because then I know my body is asking for food. I don't like to eat when I don't feel hungry... I lost already 9 kg in the last two months when I started intermittant fasting.

For people who get up early, like to train at the beginning of the day and feel that a large late meal strains their digestive system, I highly recommend the 6-8 hour eating window in the form of eTRF (early time restricted eating) where the largest meal (even 70%) is in the form of breakfast (while being a meal after training), and the second (or second and third) as lunch or early dinner, which will not have more than 30-40% of the daily caloric requirement. For me personally, this solution was revolutionary. Previously, I used the eating window from 10.00 to 17.00, but I felt that the quality of sleep was worse, the digestive system was overloaded, and sometimes it was difficult for me to stay until 10. I get up every day at 4:30 in the morning, I do a workout lasting up to 30-40 minutes and I have my (largest) meal at 8 am and the second (last) no later than 2 o'clock. Thanks to this I have about 7 hours of "active fast" before I go to sleep + sleep hours. Thanks to this solution, I can easily achieve 17-20 hours of fasting, diametrically better quality of sleep, regeneration and energy levels throughout the day. If you just can't imagine eating solid food early, you can try something in the form of a smoothie + mini salads, seeds, nuts and, of course, oils.

So far it’s been easier to skip breakfast. And I’m not as hungry as I thought I would be. I break my fast at noon and stop eating at 8 pm since I usually work until 7 pm. But I find I’m not really starving at 8, so I have something small. Lunch is usually where I’ll have the bulk of my food. I have lost 80lbs doing a low calorie diet, but I have hit a plateau. And I can’t seem to loose belly fat.
I’ve been finding your videos very educational and so full of great tips. It’s really been helping me start this new journey. My next hurdle is to try and cut back on the carbs. I still find myself counting calories since I’m used to it and since I don’t cook or meal prep I usually eat out at lunch time or have a baked potato with cottage cheese. My breakfast most mornings was low calorie toast with peanut butter and sugar free jelly. But since I’m skipping breakfast I’m not having that bread in the morning. Hopefully I’ll break this plateau and learn to eat better. Thank you.

I started my intermittent fasting 2 days ago. I eat my breakfast at 8am, and lunch @12 or 1pm. Next meal time will be the next day @8am again. I somehow feel my tummy getting smaller. 😊

I'm a recovering diabetic whose BMI is just in the obese range. I have 20kgs to lose! My tip is OMAD (one meal a day). Over the last 2 weeks I have skipped breakfast and lunch, and taken care of what I eat in the evening. No bread (definitely no bread!), No rice, pasta or potatoes. No alcohol (especially beer). Oily fish and white meat plus salads, stir fry and roasted veggies. My target is 85 kgs from 110. I've already lost 5kg. This regime will last til July 1st where I will reassess my diabetes situation and my weight. If I have set a new target, so be it!

I have been taking your advice and doing the intermittent fasting since about three weeks. I had a nasty bladder infection and was looking for advice and found your channel. Yes I have been detoxing and have changed my diet considerably. I found your channel and thought I'd try this! I've had so many symptoms improve almost immediately! I have lost weight as I put on some clothes where I was poured into them. My rings even fit looser! I will keep learning and applying your advice! Thank you very much!👍❗

I eat twice a day. My first meal at 12 or 1, then my second at around 6, ideally. I drink water with pink Himalayan salt all day, as well. Coffee, too. I wo t eat again until 12 or 1 pm the following day. I rarely have issues with low blood sugar or anything( not diabetic, though ) . I fast for a minimum of 18 hours. I'm looking to implement OMAD at least twice a week soon.

After 5 years of following this life style, I continue following Dr. Fung as my # 1 source of truth and simplicity.
Question to Dr. Fung: What are the symptoms when a person enters into Autophagy state? I can tell when I'm in Ketosis. I have a nice free flowing energy, no hunger and I'm in a good positive mood.
Where as when I'm in sugar burning state, I get hungry fast, my mood changes quickly.

When Dr. Fung said, "When you make something a habit, it makes it easier to do day-in-day-out" well that really resonated with me, and it is absolutely true. I like to eat dinner so that's what I do, but never ever do I even think about food during the day-time hours. I've been eating in a two-hour window (6pm - 8pm) for the past 5 years. After all that time, I can definitely say it's a habit ; ) I don't eat this way for weight loss, I just know that my overall health has improved immensely since adopting the fasting lifestyle. Thank you, Dr. Fung. Always a THUMBS UP! Over and out

Good luck to you, Margaret, and do whatever you feel works for you. All I would add is, keep on challenging yourself, don't fall into the trap of just doing what is comfortable. For example: on a daily basis I fast for 22 hours. So in my fasting hours, I only drink black coffee and carbonated water. Subsequently, I don't have insulin spikes. Periodically throughout the year, I do multiple-day fasts, usually between 3 - 7 days. My longest fast was 23 days in September 2019. That was insane and the toughest challenge I'd ever taken on. I'm not suggesting anyone should do that length of fast....but definitely, I'd recommend 3 to 7 day fasting periodically. Again, good luck - Leo

I am 54 and perimenopausal so my hormones are another issue and for the past 2 years it seems like I cannot lose weight no matter what I try. I am going to not eat dinner every other day to see if that gives my metabolism the boost it needs.

I’m backwards. I can’t get past breakfast without obsessing over food but dinner is easy to skip. Once it hits three in the afternoon it’s a relief because I can easily get through the rest of the day without a single bite. I think a job I had got me in that pattern. But it works for me now

I’m the same way. I have been that way my whole life. I’ve never cared about dinner. I like to eat breakfast within an hour or so of waking and then a big meal around 2. I sleep like a baby. My husband is a dinner eater and he always has sleep disruptions. I think it’s because his body is trying to digest and rest at the same time.

Thanks Dr Fung ,informative as usual. I skip breakfast as that is the easiest for me to do. Working shifts at a blood donation centre I have to eat my dinner around 8.30 when I get home from work. I have been doing 16:8 for around 6 months and it is going well. Will continue till I reach my goal and then will continue for maintenance.

Thanks Dr. Fung for the information you've been providing online.
I've been intermittent fasting since January 1, where I eat three days a week and fast four days a week (nothing to eat). I typically fast Monday and Tuesday, eat Wednesday, and then fast Thursday and Friday, and then eat Saturday and Sunday. I haven't restricted what I eat when I break my fast, and don't exercise regularly.
On the days I fast, I just drink water and take vitamin D and a multivitamin, and an electrolyte (no calorie) supplement. I also drink a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar each day. I've lost 40 pounds so far. Weight loss is slowing down, but I have experienced other benefits of fasting, including lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and less joint pain.
I have no end date to when I will stop fasting, but will probably see how far my current routine takes me, and then modify my fasting days and meal plan.

Well, there’s probably something different in my body because, i’m usually hungry in the morning and not hungry in the evening. Therefore, for the past four years that I’ve been doing intermittent fasting, I eat breakfast and fast for the rest of the day. I’m also doing keto diet. And what I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t matter how much calories I consume. For my 65 kg, I can eat up to 4000 cal daily and not gain any weight.

      4000 cal! that's funny!
I mean, even if you doing Harsh exercises you can't burning 4000 cal.
Intermittent Fasting is not Magic miracle or something of Banality like that, it's very simple to Understand: For example, you need 2000 cal per day, so when you doing IF you just cheating your brain and body by consume less 2000 cal in one day.
it's just something simple and very clear to know it. don't make the IF material for sarcasm "lol"
it's simple my little funny man: you fast.. so you dont eat, then when you break your fasting "in your Window", simply Maybe you can't eat 2000 cal to burn some body fat.
it's just trick my funny man "lol"
if you eating 4000 per day, you will got weight "2000 cal+"
see you my funny man.. you and the other funnist pepole like you in this channel, or maybe in dr. Berg channel too! such Pathetic and Little knowledge pepole.. it's always very easy to used and make fun of you, from youtubers and promoters "lol"

As a school kid I was never hungry in the morning so never had breakfast. When I went to uni for some reason I got into the habit of breakfast and then was hooked and would literally feel starved if I didn’t have it. When I started work I’d wake at 5.15am partly to include breakfast - it was such a hassle and like Dr Fung says I could have just spent that time getting additional sleep which would have been more beneficial. However better late than never and now have been a week delaying breaking my fast until 12pm and contrary to Kellogg’s and co. I haven’t spontaneously combusted or anything lol. After a few days I started getting regular morning bowel movements and I’m looking forward to plenty of others benefits in my future also - mainly of course my fat melting away 😊

In my experience with fasting, I tend to skip breakfast because I don’t really care for it and I tend to be busier during the day so I’m not really focused on food. Personally I’d rather eat dinner so I can go to bed full and also I get really bad sugar and junk food cravings at night and I will cave into it especially if I’m hungry. I guess it just depends on the person.
