Hi Jason, what about the studies that are in agreement that the high fat, low carb diet like Keto leads to less cardio-vascular disease, but claim that it causes more all-cause mortality. For numerous examples of this, simply google 'keto mortality.' I've been on a Keto diet for 6 months now btw, so I'm not hating on the keto diet, but simply looking for a way to address the people who point out this apparent increase in all-cause mortality in connection with a ketogenic diet.
Hello Dr, I am a vegetarian but I eat eggs. Is it risky to be a vegetarian? Is it bad to avoid foods with saturated fats? Can you make a video about healthy vegetarian diet or vegan diet.
Dr. Fung, I love your work and the information you're sharing with the world. I just wanted to share these two videos with you to review, in case it may be necessary to also share as an addendum to your knowledge base. ruclips.net/video/3TIYTfYYgIE/видео.html - ruclips.net/video/Vv7AqLV-J6c/видео.html
I agree. I think the toughest thing for Americans is unwinding all the brainwashing we have lived through. I am 3 years now as a low carb intermittent faster . Lost 60 pounds the first year; now focused on autophagy and my doc is in full support. It was Dr Fung’s advice that brought me to this point. I feel 20 years younger at 71 and my COPD is now just a minor issue. ❤
Did keto for over a year. Felt great, lost 40lbs, arthritis went away, back pain went way down, no more anxiety or depression, etc. doctor freaked about my cholesterol and put me on the highest dose statin. I refused to take it. Nutritionist is telling me that keto and OMAD are unhealthy and unsustainable. Tried it the doctors/nutritionists way. Weight flew back on and all the symptoms started coming back. American health care is disgraceful.
I will take this to my cardiologist who is still telling me no salt or fat in spite of the fact that after Keto/fasting l am off all 11 prescriptions at age 70! Thank you Dr. Fung.♥️
I tried Keto 4 months ago. Intermittent diet came naturally. Arthritis, joints swollen fingers disappeared. No more brain fog, blues, anxiété. Brain crarity and younger skin. I will stick to keto , its just awesome Thanks for this video, so helpful ❤
Started watching you 6 months ago and now I am down 70.6 lbs by combining keto with I.F. it is the only thing that has worked for me. I'm off my blood pressure medication. I'm 26 years old
Dr. Fung saved my life after finding his videos, books, and podcasts. I have been living the ketogenic and fasting lifestyle for 2 years now. Off all meds, T2, & high blood pressure resolved. Over 100 lbs of weight loss. I feel the best I have ever felt. Dr Fung PLEASE keep doing what you do, educating us and spreading the word.
Does he have a podcast? Or does he just speak on other people's podcast? I'd prefer to have all of him speaking in one spot instead of searching other podcasts looking for him
You could go to your doctor after losing 150 pounds with low triglycerides, lowered AC1, lowered blood pressure and they still would freak out on you about eating saturated fats! They either just don't get it or they are pissed off they are losing another customer!
When my doctor asked me how I had lost 5 stone and I told him fasting and Keto diet...he didn't even know anything about Keto...and just couldn't understand anyone who would fast..go figure lol
I just had a doctor tell me to cut salt but I uped my salt and my regular doctor never said cut my salt, but he has reduced blood pressure medication 3 times in the past five years while I increased my saturated fats and salt as I fasted and lowered carbs. I have shed over 60 pounds of fat over the past five years. My doctor said just keep doing what I am doing.
I`m doing this since my Type One Diabetes - diagnosis in 2018. My A1 C went down from 12,6 to around 5 after half a year, where it stayed up to this day. No rollercoaster, always steady, with only eating carnivore it even went better. Until now I never had to use medications nor insulin. My bodyweight went down from around 115 kg to around 70 kg. High Blood pressure gone. Back and joint pains nearly gone. Ulcerative colitis (!!after 20 years!!!) gone, too. AND I found out that I can do pull -ups now, right after my 46th birthday, hihi !
@@ranvirkaur1952 Same as the last years. Still in the "honeymoon". No meds. No insulin. Didn`t even have a doctor any more. Science is over , at least for me, since they jabbed the people to whatever. Since four years or so, the time my body needs to get under 100 BG again, speeded up from around 8 hrs. to on average 3 hrs.
Another doctor that gets it but haven't seen mentioned in the comments is Dr. Sten Ekberg. His videos are packed full of vital information that helps you to understand instead of obeying and hoping for the best.

I've been on a low carb, saturated fat for a year or so . I have normal blood sugar readings now. Whats great is that l no longer crave alot of foods that did not agree with my diabetes.. thanks to your videos at the time. Thank you Dr fung. You've helped alot of people.
Watching and listening to this REAL DOCTOR pretty much changed my life... I’m 68, lost 65 pounds (July 2020 - December 2020)... size 18 to size 10... By eating one meal a day, ketogenic, and listening to Drs.Fung, Berg, Berry... never felt better in my life. Look up “Eat Like A Bear”. 🐻 I’ll never go back
@@juliafusco6430 start where you are - lets say you eat 3 meals and 3 snacks. First, as you can, begin lowering all carbs, then nearly zero carbs for snacks ( boiled egg w mayo, celery w cream cheese etc), then, as you can, eliminate one snack after another. From 3 very low carb meals, you begin to delay or advance one meal till it "merges" with another and there you have your 2 meals! Good luck!
@@juliafusco6430 it is a process... and be patient. After awhile it becomes routine... you can do it if I did ... never imagined not having 3 meals a day plus snacks!
My most favorite Dr to listen to. Such great information. I’m slowly getting into my journey but I already feel a difference in weight and clothing and inflammation. Thank you Dr Jason Fung. You have literally changed my life! I still have weak moments and when I do I just have to find your videos and listen to you, not only is your voice calming and reassuring the information just continues to motivate me.
Did keto about 18 months ago with lots of fasting on account of type 2. Lost weight. Thought I could go back to some carb. Nope. I have been off carbs about five days now and blood sugars are normalizing again. Best thing is, being already fat adapted, the switch over was easy.
LOL that's because your building insulin resistance all the while you are losing weight, which will come right back as soon as you reintroduce carbs. How is this working out for you now?
Doctor Fung i am proud to be a member . I am Iranian living in California . God bless you Sir . Thank you for helping us understand better about good health and fasting.
Dr. Jason Fung, Thank-you for translating this research. Your video should be used for Continuing Education Credit for MDs and Nutritionists who, in my experience, are still promoting the old myths about saturated fat, dietary cholesterol, butter, lean meat, etc. Jason of Arc -please save the medical system, and those of us that access it, from these outdated myths :)

What as fantastically informative video . How long before this becomes mainstream medical advice ??? Didn't heart disease kill more people in developed countries last year than covid ? We need the same kind of concerted action against carbs ( particularly refined carbs ) as we have had against covid - although there is obviously a cross over between the two in terms of mortality . These doctors like Jason and Dr Berry truly deserve the noble title of Doctor .
You rock, Dr Fung!! I've listened to hours of your videos and have read 2 books. GOD BLESS YOU for having the courage to say what you see, and for having the responsibility level to share it in volume. I'm getting my life back. Ive was on a keto type diet( Canadian based.. not high in fat, with isolated whey protein and low meat with veg) but after 2 months I lost 25 pounds, weight loss stalled for 2 weeks and gained as well. I was eating about 700 to 800 calories a day. I've applied info in your videos, and immediately lost. In the last 16 days I've lost 14 pounds. Thats after 2 months of keto and initial water loss already gone. Ive struggled with my weight all my life, despite major execercise and diet programs, I just couldn't keep it off. On the keto-like diet 7 years ago, I lost 93 pounds in 10 months BUT IT WAS ALL GAINED BACK despite mostly eating healthy. NOW WITH THE INFO ON INSULIN RESISTANCE I SEE HOW THE WEIGHT WAS CHRONIC AND I SEE HOW TO BREAK THE INSULIN RESISTANCE. In the past 16 days I've done some OMAD and have done 36 hour , 45 hr, 47 hr and 63 hour fasts. My fasting glucose is EXACTLY NORMAL , and I have hope for the first time in many years !!!!! I'm 67 years old, and I have 70 more pounds to lose. For the first time actually see that I can lose and keep it off for the rest of my life, as long as I can keep eating so much!!! Oh! The severe arthritis in my knees is improving dramatically. IM SHARING YOUR VIDEOS AND INFO WITH FAMILY SO THEY CAN GET EDUCATED VIA YOUR BOOKS, AND GET HEALTHY TO EXTEND THEIR LIVES WHILE HAVING A HAPPIER ONE WHILE HERE. Thank you for keeping this simple and not making macros the ultra top importance. I keep atten on the basic principals by eating whole food, medium protein, high good fats . I dont weigh or measure anything. I watch how I feel and how the fat burns off. Results. Easy. THANK YOU for continuing to educate me and continuing to inspire me through regaining my health.
I'm 69 and started keto last Aug., lost 40 pounds, am off all 4 of my hypertension meds. Had my physical in Jan. and my doctor was delighted with what I had accomplished and said he might try keto himself because he said he has had other patients get off their meds from going keto.
I've lost a hundred pounds in 10 months. I'm 50 and feel great. Thanks to Dr. Fung, Dr. Berg and Thomas Delauer and all the good information they tell us. Well done. Congrats!!
Why on Earth are there Doctors like Dean Ornish still screaming NO FAT? Thank you Dr Fung (and Cardiologist, Dr Scher) for always sharing this extremely valuable knowledge! signed, Faithful Fungster .........Keto On!!!!!
Once I asked if I could not be put on Statins and change my diet. The doctor said straight out, "well probably, but people just don't do that." This 'why bother' attitude is one of the biggest reasons I began to question every thing he did for (to?) me. Refused the meds. Went keto and lost 45 pounds, now fasting to get the rest off and will continue to fast. I haven't been back to check my numbers, but my body feels so much better. I will get the numbers done again though.
I came up against this too. When I returned 6 months later, 20 kgs lighter, the doctor refused to believe I had done low carb. I just agreed in the end and said yes I ate that lettuce leaf you prescribed each day. I wonder if your other patients enjoyed theirs as much as I did. He called me a smart arse.
Drs Fung, Berg, and Ekberg are the trifecta of amazing keto doctors that allowed me to shed all the weight I gained since my perfect weight I had at senior year high school. THANK YOU DOCTOR!
@@corilynandrews4685 Yes, Bret is great as is his boss Dr. Einfelt of the Diet Doctor site. I feel fortunate to have Dr. Sher (an actual low carb cardiologist) here in San Diego where I live.
My nurse practitioner is clucking her tongue that my LDL is high and out of spec ... despite the fact that I've just literally lost 50 pounds and have completely given up carbohydrates. Wants to reevaluate in 3 mos and consider statins. Nah ...
LOL my Dr tells me every year my total cholesterol is too high. I then ask "what's my HDL" the response is ALWAYS "well, yeah, it's 106, that does give you SOME protection, but you really need to lower your total" LOL My Tri's are fine too (65). I went to a cardiologist a few years ago (turned out to be stress), and he LOVED my bloodwork and told me to keep doing what I'm doing, so #ketoon

@@valerie4912 it is almost impossible to be in ketosis while eating fruits, so I say ditch fruits and instead eats lots of green vegetables, I mean a lot.
@@valerie4912 if your are metabolically healthy you wouldn't have issues when you fasting, even prolonged fasting like three days or more. In modern days when we get older we get metabolically so impaired, we lose metabolic flexibility with it we get hard times skipping meals let alone fasting. However slowly it is possible to fix this metabolic sickness starting by ditching sugary, starchy and processed food. I eat once a day for almost two years, never been this healthy through out my life.
Thank you so much for taking your precious time to share your expertise and evidence based knowledge with us. I have all the unhealthy consequences of metabolic syndrome and am trying to reverse insulin resistance, lose weight and improve lipid profile. It is so difficult to change a mind set toward saturated fat that has been promoted for decades. My mother died at the age of 49 in 1984 of coronary artery disease after also having suffered two CVA’s with sequelae. She was thin and healthy until she switched us all to margarine and a low saturated fat diet. She died too early from following this advice while also being shamed for her failure. I to have been following in her footsteps and feeling shame and failure. Your encouragement combined with references to reputable scientific evidence/sources is helping me. Entrenched health beliefs (though sometimes wrong) can be as tenacious as our moral codes and religious upbringings. Thank you for your dedication and resolve to convince us otherwise. Maybe, unlike my mother I will get to meet my grandchildren!
Thank you for sharing the real side of this treachery. Follow this fabulous Doctor’s advice- his books are excellent and easy to follow- God bless you ❤️

Thanks so much for explaining Keto and how different types of food/ fat affect our body. So clear and easy to understand. Now I know how to explain my diet to my friends and love ones who constantly challenge my healthy keto diet. 👍🏼
Thank you for your time and experience. I've been practicing keto and intermittent fasting for a few years. My health is improving, but I started late in life. I wish I'd known these ideas earlier. Keep up the good work.

I am learning so much from these videos and Dr Berg. I am doing OMAD now for 2 months and seeing benefits like sleeping through the night and my IBS calming down...
Great video. The only caveat I would suggest is that you shouldn't eat fat at the same time as sugar, which we should be avoiding as much as possible anyway.
Actually you should always eat fat with sugar, to slow down the intake of glucose and especially fructose, which is the real problem. ruclips.net/video/NolUugkz0VI/видео.html
At 64 and thirty years of diabetes of which I spent six years on insulin, I am no longer on insulin and halved the diabetes medication. Unfortunately, very little help or understanding came from my doctor! After watching some of Dr Fung videos, I, too have become a 'Fungi' and suffer from chronic 'Fungititis' and I love it!!!
Traditional docs don’t get it... I do what I want then get bloodwork and use my doc only for traditional ailments then use my non traditional doc for bio identical hrt and thyroid and all others, I tell my traditional doc what I want and what I’m doing and what I based my decisions on and she just shakes her head and knows I’ve done my research and it’s pointless to argue
Sadly, you free from meds = doc starving on a street, hard to expect understanding and help from him/her, when their livelihood depends on you being ill. Taking my health in my own hands is the best thing I ever did!
I think it’s important to listen to your own body. I didn’t feel well during keto so went low carb (zero sugar, zero alcohol, zero wheat/gluten, zero coffee) and am feeling much better. Also fasting in the mornings. I am a 45 yr old woman with zero health issues, I just listen to my body.
Agree completely! I also eat intuitively, sometimes walking to the market without knowing what I want until I see it. Some days I reach for fermented foods, other days it might be a fatty duck breast. No need to overthink it.
You’re so right @FemBot ....couldn’t do keto while doing HIIT and martial arts (faint, highly anxious, not sleeping)....but reducing carbs has helped so much.
Yes. I did low carb for 1 year. I lost masses of weight, reversed all blood work and prediabetes but I suffered dreadfully. I was hyperactive, never slept, grew a beard (48 year old woman), had constant loose bowels & was frozen to the bones even in summer. I added back some carbs and all the bad effects disappeared.
even if it isnt possible for some to b a strict follower of KETO...low carbs( will mean no bakery, no grains) and appropriate fat /protein is the move in right direction,,,gradual and consistent weight loss, no blood pressure issues and better managed diabetes to the extent of flipping back to pre diabetes stage A1C readings ,,,,personal experience that is !
@@tazboy1934 kindly consult some good nutritionist as well, I cut the grains to reduce carbs,,,if u can maintain good health with grains, i believe moderate use wont do any harm ! I don‘t eat keto, but much lower carbs. This is a very helpful presentation and shows that I just need to step up my game a little. Thank you so much Dr. Fung
If the whole population reduced its processed carbohydrate intake it would do wonders for the population. Lowering carbohydrates does not necessarily mean no carbohydrates.
This is so reassuring. I began keto a couple weeks ago. An unexpected effect was automatically moving to intermittent fasting as well. I simply wasn't hungry all the time. This was a huge shift! I'm losing weight, sleeping better, have normal blood pressure & have a happy gut. A few more pounds lost and I'll drop my low dose BP medication. Despite great results already I still really appreciate confirmation that I'm not putting my heart at risk. Thank you 🌹💐
Found Dr. Fung about 3 months back at 94 Kgs of weight with hypertension. Now, 10 Kgs down, with normal blood pressure getting ready to consult my doc to get off meds. Just used the philosophy - keep carbohydrates in check, reduced bread/rice/wheat by half, increased good fat including unsaturated (ghee in India) and did regular intermittent fasting over short periods.
I do regular 3-7 Days Fasts and break it with OMAD Keto meal. Means i do fast at least for 3 Days and repeat. After a while, i go longer since its easier then, usually 5 days sometimes even up to 7 but no more then that. And i can tell you from experience, quality saturated Fat heavy animal foods are THE KEY to go longer without food and burn more fat. Also it triggers Bile release, so people who are often constipated can benefit from that, sometimes they get weird advice from a popular channel to break fasts with lean protein, wich will lead into many many problems and cravings. I use Gras fed Blue cheese. per 100g it has 42g of fat, of wich 30g are saturated. Its also high in CLA and a fes MCT's since its gras fed. One whole pack and i notice the diffrence while fasting.
Thank you👍❤️👍❤️So clearly most of us are stuck on false information from the 70’s 😂😂😂 I don’t like eating chicken or meat bc of the hormones and antibiotics but I see some keto followers eat grass fed farm raised meat. A game changer for sure!
Its important to have grass fed and grass finished meats which have the most omega 3 and omega 6 and other good nutrients. Its more affordable to buy direct from the farmer. Check out a site like Eat Wild.
Thank you Dr. Fung. Clinicians like you and Dr. Jamnadas are making a difference. I've adopted the time restricted feeding lifestyle, and what a difference. The next step is towards "keto". The saturated fat boogey man myth is still alive and well. No wonder heart disease and insulin resistance is so prevalent. God help us. Thank you again.
Thank you sir,and btw all your ads are big pharma pushing meds for diabetes, heart failure etc,I know you don't have any thing to do with ads,I appreciate your help and inspiration
Every time I see a video of dr Fung I THINK I know what hes gonna say and what the video is about and then I LEARN something new and its not what I thought he would say at all!! I love how u show us studies and go into details explaining us, simplifying it so we dont just get told what to do but why and how.
After reading Dr. Fung's book on keto, I lost 50 pounds in 7 months by fasting one day a week combined with keto. Felt fantastic and was easy to maintain once I got there. Then I got a job as a caretaker for an older person who liked starchy foods and refused to eat anything I prepared if I wouldn't eat it too. Gained all 50 back. Now I work somewhere else where getting unhealthy isn't part of the job description and I can get back to being healthy. I'm going to start slow, but I am confident that if I did it once, I can do it again -- and from now on I'm not going to give up my health for somebody else.
Hi Doc, I’ve learned so much from you, and I want to thank you for all the knowledge and work you do on all these videos. I’m having tremendous success following your advice. I had triple bypass last year, and since then I lost 25 pounds, lowered blood pressure, eliminated symptoms of sleep apnea, sleep great now, have a super healthy diet, dropped the meds after 30 days after the surgery, exercise vigorously (muscle and cardio) every day, and I’m at my best mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. Thank you for helping to make all this happen. My own doctors never suggested any of these regimens that have made me healthy. Instead, they wanted me to stay on meds. How is it that the vast majority of medical doctors are so adverse to this healthy approach, and how is it they are so stubborn and refuse to acknowledge the truths you teach? What happen in med school? Is it brainwashing?

There will always be telling you that what you are doing is unhealthy and there will always people that know better than you. My (morbidly obese!!) grandmother told me that fasting won't do anything for me and that the only way to lose belly fat is gymnastics (yeah, right). I lost 110 pounds doing keto + alternate day fasting, so guess who was right in the end? 😂
thank you jason great video. the world should know that saturated fat is the key for optimal health. i wish you jason start to promote this idea, because now the world at cognetive chaos , we can save this world before it be too late (the government dont want them to know how to be with good cognition)
Overtime fatty acids build up in your cells leading to insulin resistant of the cells but most doctors blame sugar causing insulin resistant which is not true. Sugar will spike your glucose but if insulin is blocked from the cells then the insulin cant do its job which is to deliver the sugar out of the blood. Meats and Dairy are the main culprits for that fatty acid blockage.
Many cardiologists will tell you, "It's the inflammation caused by chronically elevated insulin that's causing Cardiovascular Disease." What's the cure? 1. Don't eat the recommended 6-10 meals a day. (Eat 1 or 2 bigger meals) 2. Sugars and excessive carbohydrates cause inflammation. Eat low carb (under 50g a day) and eat "whole", real foods, not processed. 3. Cook with real fat oils like coconut oil, butter, lard, olive oil.
Thanks Dr Fung. 2 months of Intermitant fasting HgA1C was 9.2 Now 6.6 Lost 25 lbs! You rock Hoping to be under 200 by the end of October as I will be 50!
Thank you Dr. for this clear presentation of studies evidence. Eagerly awaiting medical profession getting clear in like manner concerning recalibration of what is high total cholesterol and a clear standard-practice identification of the segments of LDL (which are harmless and which are the potential problem) before automatically prescribing a drug without knowing.
You have to look at the whole food ~ it's quite intuitive and practical. I think we've been caught up in this wave of macro wars and demonizing one particular macronutrient in favour of another. For some people, keto/high fat diet works, and for others, whole food plant based diets work. I think what's great about fasting is the shift in focus towards our overall attitude and relationship with food that has recently changed a lot. Great content!

Did keto about 18 months ago with lots of fasting on account of type 2. Lost weight. Thought I could go back to some carb. Nope. I have been off carbs about five days now and blood sugars are normalizing again. Best thing is, being already fat adapted, the switch over was easy.
If you have been of carbs for a long time it will take the body some time to get back on track, but it will return to normal.
Do you eat green veggies and fruit?
LOL that's because your building insulin resistance all the while you are losing weight, which will come right back as soon as you reintroduce carbs. How is this working out for you now?

Oh!

The medical schools go off the journals and the journals are all corrupt and based on pseudoscience so they are relying on a false authority.

Fat is good for you, and salt isn't as bad as once thought.
(Eat 1 or 2 bigger meals)
2. Sugars and excessive carbohydrates cause inflammation. Eat low carb (under 50g a day) and eat "whole", real foods, not processed.
3. Cook with real fat oils like coconut oil, butter, lard, olive oil.

Love your work Dr. Fung!
