i had the immense pleasure of meeting Steve at a Patriots Alumni Event at Gillette. He was so easy to talk to, and I proudly have a #14 red jersey with his autograph on the back. Easily my favorite Patriot not named Tom Brady. I love to show my kids throwback footage of Grogan in action

Thanks for a great interview. I was nine years old in 1976 when I became a Patriots' fan, and Steve Grogan was my hero. It's wonderful to hear these old stories from back in the day. Grogan may never have gotten a ring, but he is a treasured member of the Pats' alumni. And unlike their more recent QB star, he's a Patriot for life.

Was at game in Foxboro and Steve threw an interception just before the half and Steve chased the guy and leveled him out of bounds, he was so tough. Held NFL record for QB rushing TDs for awhile.

Steven was underrated. Still one of the greats who got the patriots rolling.

This was a very cool and refreshing broadcast. Back in the fall of 1985, I was a 12 year old kid growing up on Chicago's west side. I was mainly into G.I. Joe, Transformers, Robotech, Voltron and Star Wars. Although I played some sports in gym in grade school, I really didn't watch or keep up with sports in general. Then in the fall of 1985, I'd hear some guys talking about the Chicago Bears, Walter Payton, The Refrigerator, etc. So on Sundays I didn't have to go to church, I started watching the Bears. It was the Bears 10th game at home against the Detroit Lions. The Bears won that game handling and remained undefeated. I got to watch 4 of the Bears last 6 regular season games including both home playoff games and the Super Bowl. When the Bears NFC championship win was over I switched over to NBC to watch the AFC championship game. Since the Dolphins beat the Bears for their only loss during the season, I wasn't sure who I wanted to play the Bears in the Super Bowl. But I thought it would be cool if the underdog Patriots could beat the Dolphins down in the Orange Bowl. I was amazed at what the Patriots accomplished during their playoff run. In the Super Bowl, I remember Steve Grogan coming into the game for Tony Eason. I was still a young fan who got on the Bears bandwagon and little by little learning about the league, the Bears and other players and teams around the league. All I know is even though I was happy the Bears were winning big, I felt bad for Steve Grogan trying to come in and make the game somewhat respectable. Over the next several years after that game and till this present day I learned about how good Steve Grogan was as the face of the Patriots and him being a good man and class act.

@@gamespeopleplaypodcast1422 My greatest memory of Steve Grogan was a game in 1985 against the Jets. I was on the 50 yard line and had a Birdseye view of Grogan getting "sandwiched" between Gastino and Klecko. There stadium was silent as none of us fans new if Steve could continue playing. Of course, gritty Grogan got up cleared the cobwebs and continued to play. Late in the game, Grogan ran a naked bootleg scoring the winning touchdown. As the game ended I saw Klecko run up to Grogan yelling something and pointing his finger at him. The next day I read in the paper that Klecko told Grogan that he was the toughest quarterback he ever faced. Quite a complement from a rival and a great player like Klecko. Grogan gave the team and it's fans everything he had!

Toughest QB to EVER play the game. He played with every brace there was. He won 6 games in a row to get the Pats to the 85 SB and if he started that game the Pats could've won or came a lot closer than the score was without him playing. He came in late and scored the only touch down we scored.

We will never forget you,Steve. You know I won’t. Grogan is best, because he was tougher, could run, throw and there was little rules and protection. Brady has been literally pampered in comparison. Rings or not, Steve is the better QB.
